A Hollywood guy who is a criminal....never saw that happening!
planktonrules14 July 2021
Tom Skerritt is Darrin Addison, a film director who hopes to make big-time projects. His latest film is a chance to move up to big-time pictures but his star is a drunk has-been who is undoubtedly going to ruin the film....and Darrin's chance. So, he does what any Hollywood type would do...he kills the guy! And, a couple people he works with suspect this....and have no problem with it...provided he gives them plum jobs on his films.

This is a pretty standard sort of episode aside from the setting. And, like so many other episodes, killing is like eating potato chips....you can't just stop at one. Worth seeing and well made.

THE DRUNK HAS GOT TO GO!
tcchelsey12 April 2023
Prolific writer Larry Brody wrote this intriguing, behind the scenes Hollywood episode. Larry was also writing for HAWAII FIVE O.

This starts out very interestingly; movie director Tom Skerritt has had it and kills his leading man, who happens to be a drunk, certain to ruin his production. It's the perfect move, except when a few of his colleagues figure it all out. To make matters worse, in steps Barnaby. This reminds me a bit of a COLUMBO episode as you watch Skerritt (who is very convincing) try to wrangle out of it all.

A good point to be made is you actually couldn't blame the guy... but... but...

There's also an excellent supporting cast with popular actor Dennis Cole (as Carroll) and Stacy Keach's dad as the sheriff. Look for Audra Lindley (as Iris), best known as Mrs. Roper (THREES COMPANY). Cole in later years was an anti-tv violence advocate after the shooting death of his son, which to this day remains unsolved.

This was partly filmed at the atmospheric and very mysterious Castle Ranch in the middle of the desert at Lancaster, California. Today it remains closed to the public, but was a popular film location for many cop shows like CANNON and HARRY O.

SEASON 3 EPISODE 18 remastered CBS dvd box set.

Yawn! One Episode Just Like Another
WYAdams6 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The writers pulled out the checklist again. One murder, followed by a second to cover it up, ending with the predictable shootout with Barnaby where he manages a miracle shot that wounds but does not kill the suspect. Don't worry they managed to get the ubiquitous glass of milk in at the restaurant.

The plot is so predictable that the spoilers button should be automatically set to no because you can't spoil a plot that is as predictable as it is in this series, barely varying from one episode to the next.
