Filming in Newcastle's Bigg Market drew a huge crowd. So much so that when you watch the scene of Dennis picking Vicki up from the hairdresser, onlookers can be seen from most angles.
During the filming at Barry's house, production crew were forced to buy the local children sweets to keep them quiet during the shoot.
Oz and his Irish friend refer to the Falkland Islanders as Bennies. This name came about at the time of the Falklands War and just after and was given to them by British troops on service there. As Oz says, this was after the character in "Crossroads" (1964), who was often to be seen wearing a bobble cap like the islanders. Benny was a bit of a stupid character, so this was not taken to kindly by the islanders themselves.
Oz's Irish friend from the Falklands can be seen in a cameo later in the series, when Moxey is in a transport café, trying to get to London. Moxey doesn't know who he is though.
Oz, Barry and a friend can be seen running on an Argentine minefield in the Falkland Islands near the beginning of this episode. Although some of the minefields have been cleared in the Falklands, many still remain uncleared to this day; as it would be simply too labour intensive to remove all of them. An additional problem is that the mines were placed in peat, which can slip and flow when waterlogged. This makes them harder to remove from than normal soil. Despite this only a handful of civilians have been injured since the end of the war, and only one or two have been killed. All are fenced off and clearly signposted like the one in this scene, and are well known to the locals.
