Touching--Right?
Hitchcoc13 December 2019
When Opie finds a wallet with 50 dollars in it, somehow we know he isn't boing to benefit from it. He has every right to dream of some sort of prize for his good luck. Andy tends to go off half cocked at times when things don't go perfectly. in the end there is a moral lesson, but it doesn't come easily. I grew up in poverty and know the hurt that can come from it although Opie does have a solid foundation.

Is a Opie taking the long way home.

When Opie finds the money on his way home from school, he is on a deserted country road. Interesting since they live in town. What was he doing way out there? In other episodes he stops at the sheriffs office on the way home.

UNREALISTIC EPISODE

The only comment I have to make about this episode is, if a person lost a wallet containing $50, there is no way they would wait for a whole week before going to the police to inquire if it was found!

Happened to me-sort of

This episode brought back a fond memory from my childhood. I was about 10 when I found a wallet in the parking lot of our neighborhood store. Inside it was a substantial amount of cash. There was also fortunately a drivers license with an address in my subdivision. So I pedaled my bicycle to the address and knocked on the door. A lady answered and I told her about the wallet I found. She turned around and said something like, "George, did you lose your wallet?" The man in the kitchen said, "Why no. I have it right..." he said as he patted his backside. Oops. They were appreciative and they offered me a reward but I wouldn't take it. I have laughed at the man's reaction for the past 60 years.

A different time

Growing up in this era, this was the norm. Opie did what most would do in this time period. I found a wallet once, turned it in to the police station and the owner of it showed up to report a missing wallet. It was returned to the owner. I have my doubts if it happened today, if you would ever see the return of the wallet.

Mystery bankbook appears when money was put in a piggy bank?
vitoscotti5 June 2022
A dud 4* episode breaks a streak of 7 10* episodes. I like Ron Howard as Opie, but he's only funny in certain situations. Mostly being a pest. Don Knotts has some funny scenes. Being sensitive, Andy angrily telling him, "Get in the car", secretive about Phoebe with Andy prying.

Overall a lifeless episode with the humor mostly forced. The wallet appeared magically on a side of a road? Andy was going to eat the $50? Probably half his weekly salary. Opie just isn't funny being the main character. The epilogue revisited Phoebe, and layed an egg.
