Lydia oh Lydia
Hitchcoc16 December 2019
When Goober becomes a pest horning in on Andy and Barney's dates, they decide to get him a girlfriend. It turns out to be a woman named Lydia who is about as dull as any creature on earth. It turns out, however, that Goober is totally taken with her. Now there are two people butting into the evenings. There are several hilarious scenes in this episode as Goober can't figure out the world around him.

Lots of good laughs in this one.

Opening the show, we learn that Andy, Helen, "big Barn" and Thelma Lou have met at the courthouse in the evening in order to go as a group to go to the movie theater to see a film. Just as they're leaving, Goober comes around ("looking pathetic", according to Barney), and ingratiates himself until the girls insist he accompany the couples to the show.

The remainder of the episode involves ways to get Goober to get a girl of his own, so that he won't be a third wheel for Andy and Barney, but also to get him to have someone of his own to do things with. Goober eventually does start seeing a girl he likes, but still wants to be a part of Andy and Barney's group.

Barney to Andy: " Not !much lays on his chest!"

Andy to Goober: " Though you was over at Lydia's house?" Goober: "Was. Eat up that box of candy, weren't nothing else to do."

Warning: Spoilers
Such a funny episode and one of my favorites. Why? Because I reckon there aren't many 38 yr old virgins out there. Except of course in towns like Mayberry where I reckon the pickin's are slim?

They're doing it...they're doing it

Really funny episode. Love the Lydia character. When Goober and Barney is watching Andy and Helen through the window and Andy kisses Helen ... Goober is unable to control himself and yells out, "They're doing it...they're doing it." I am laughing typing about it.

One of Goober's best episodes

The writers aren't pulling any punches on how stupid Goober is. He's hilariously dumb as a box of rocks. Then to pair him up with cute oddball Lydia (Josie Lloyd) was pure magic.

So bizarre that the thougt of dating was new to Goober. Making him unpolished really gave the writers a lot of leeway. I read somewhere George Lindsey was very insecure in his work on TAGS. That's baffling being how funny his TAGS performances were.

Of the many funny scenes I always liked Goober's hair dripping, Lydia sticking her head out the car window, Barney telling Andy nice going blaming him for ruining the evening. A very good epilogue with pest Barney. He does love his mozzarella. I bet Morelli's Pizza was really something special.
