Great episode, but quite a goof.

This is a funny episode, with the Bunkers at a restaurant. I know this is a comedy. but the writers overlooked this mistake. When the character played by Roscoe Lee Brown gets into it with Archie, and they talk about being in the service in World War 2. When Roscoe sarcastically asks Archie, about his service, with the line "KP Or Latrine duty?" and Archie shoots back, "That was the only place we seen youse people," that would not happen.. The US Armed Forces were still segregated in World War 2, it wasn't until 1947 that the Forces were desegregated.

Archie stuck in a elevator with people he can't stand

Warning: Spoilers
While at a birthday celebration for Edith at a restaurant, Archie finds he needs pay his insurance so he runs to the building to give them a payment.

He ends up stuck in a elevator with a wealthy black snob(Roscoe Lee Browne), a neurotic white woman (Eileen Brennan) and a Puerto Rican janitor(Hector Elizondo) with a pregnant wife(Edith Diaz). A very funny episode as Archie is forced to put up with all these antagonists. Archie has some funny bigoted remarks while getting it right back from the others. In the end the Puerto Rican lady ends up giving birth in the elevator,Archie at first is nervous about it, but when he sees the child he gives a slight smile. This is a nice subtle reaction, unlike some of the sledge hammer sentiment in so many other shows, including this series in later seasons. But the early seasons knew how to show both the laughter and the touching moments.

HOLD- O...STOP-O

Archie a bit of a coward not helping. An episode that is truly memorable. Very big name actors creating a sort of short play in the elevator. It's hard to pick a favorite actor. They all we're so good. Always fun to see a sitcom out of their safe home setting.

Easily one of the top episodes of all time with an all star cast. Not to be missed. This one episode epitomizes the entire series.

How did this get past the censors?

This incredibly funny episode is so politically incorrect, I have to wonder how it was allowed to air? There's no way it would air by today's standards, right or wrong, but thankfully graced our television sets back in 1972. I'd probably call this my favorite episode, as there were several notable faces, such as Hector Elizondo, Roscoe Lee Browne, and Eileen Brennan, and they all had memorable lines, and added their talents to this wonderful story. The gist has Archie, Edith, Gloria, and Mike celebrating Edith's birthday at a restaurant, although Archie discovers that an insurance bill needs to be paid by that night, and he must rush to a local office, which also happens to be in the same building as the restaurant. He takes the elevator where all these characters are, and soon after, the elevator gets stuck between floors, and chaos ensues. Some of the lines uttered, not just by Archie, may be a tad politically incorrect for sensitive ears, but they are just too funny to ignore. Perhaps the only downer for me was Edith getting publicly drunk, and while it was cute at first, it just seemed a bit forced after that. Other than that small mention, this is simply a great elevator ride.
