John Amos, what were you thinking?
gcanfield-2972716 August 2020
This show was canceled after only six episodes. Not hard to see why. There was no apparent reason why this show needed to be set in Archie Bunker's old house. These characters had no connection to anything related to All in the Family. You get some moronic idiot who's supposed to be Joey Stivic, showing up for no particular reason. John Amos plays a black bigot. His son has a Jewish girlfriend. The dialogue becomes increasingly racist. Since there is no familiarity with the characters, you can't really relate to their viewpoints. Then, there's John Amos. He was James Evans on Good Times. James Evans was poor and disadvantaged, and never expressed prejudice of any kind. It's disconcerting watching the same actor play a well-to-do character who is bigoted. This misguided pilot is the only thing I've seen Amos in, which didn't benefit from his presence. All in all, not good.
