Tarrant gets marooned on The Planet Virn along with Servalan, the pair face an anxious time on the inhospitable world of sand.
Sand, for me, is the show's standout episode, this is a masterpiece in my eyes, a glimpse of what the show could do at its best. My second favourite episode, Sarcophagus shares something in common with this, both were written by Tanith Lee, what a sensational writer.
It's frightening, it's revealing, it's hugely rewarding, and it looks nice. The production team did a fine job creating Virn, it looks really good, the lighting is subtle enough to work.
It doesn't surprise me to learn that this was Jacqueline Pearce's favourite episode, she is quite enchanting here, her character is immaculately written here, and it's one of those occasions where the contrast between her beauty and ruthlessness is capitalised on to huge effect.
'There are no women like me, I am unique,' her delivery of that line was quite incredible, Pearce really does deliver a masterclass performance.
Servalan's backstory and history are explored, we learn more about her in one scene, than we have throughout this whole fourth series.
I've been a little unsure about Tarrant so far, but Pacey is excellent here, his character really does come to life. Reeve made for a good adversary also.
I have zero issues with Sand, it's a perfect episode, not just my favourite episode of Blake's 7, I'd put it up in my top ten of all time favourites.
Stunning, 10/10.
