In a 2014 interview Michael Modest (Private Pain) explained that when NBC approached him and the other wrestlers to take part in the special they were told it would be a pro-wrestling TV movie with the wrestlers wearing luchador masks. But there was a clause in the contracts they signed that said the terms of the project were subject to change, when they got to the set to begin pre production they found out it would be an expose on pro wrestling. Modest initially refused to participate but was then offered more money to take part. Modest has stated that he would've preferred to have his face shown for greater exposure. He also stated the interviews were edited to make it sound like he and the other wrestlers were saying that wrestling was fake. Many of the "secrets" were already common knowledge among wrestling fans while others were completely made up like the booker giving out the signs to the fans and the use of a "stunt Granny".
