I recently reported that Channing Tatum will be starring in the crime thriller 'Son of No One' (set to be released in 2011), his latest drama with writer/director Dito Montiel, and now I have a few more details on the who, what, when, and where for the film production.
The estimated $20 million actioneer is in the pre-production phase and principal photography (aka filming) is currently scheduled to start on February 2, 2010 (right around the time Chan will be wrapping up promotions for his movie 'Dear John').
In addition to filming on location in New York City (which I totally pegged as a potential location in my last post about the film), the production will reportedly be making some stops in Detroit, Michigan and Toronto, Ontario in Canada.
It's an understatement to say that Dito Montiel is drawn to New York City much like ducks are drawn to water. After »

There is something to be said about Kate Winslet's acceptance speech at the Academy Awards. After five nominations, Winslet finally won Best Actress! It's really about time. When she mentioned Meryl Streep, I took notice of the generations of actresses in attendance and that both Streep and Winslet belong differently. - - -

Many are probably rooting for Carey Mulligan (An Education) to win and there are also many Oscarwatchers pinning their hopes on the older generation - will it be Dame Helen Mirren for The Last Station or will it be Meryl Streep's year yet again for Julie and Julia?

Abbie Cornish has made her mark in edgy, unconventional films such "Candy" and "Stop-Loss," but the 27-year-old Aussie is finding 2009 is turning into her biggest year yet. She's already drawing raves for her work in Jane Campion's "Bright Star" (more on that later), but she's currently spending her days playing Sweatpea in Zack Snyder's highly anticipated new epic "Sucker Punch." Cornish jumped on the phone earlier today to discuss "Bright Star," but it was her enthusiasm for "Punch" which was most apparent. Shooting began in Vancouver last month and Cornish says Snyder's latest is "seriously, six films in one »

Given recent comments from Sir Ian McKellen about his involvement (or lack thereof) in the upcoming "X-Men Origins: Magneto" film from Fox, it's time to face the inevitable—Magneto is going to be recast. This was already a virtual certainty due to the story's purported focus on the Master of Magnetism's more youthful days, but McKellen's words confirm the need for a new, younger actor.
Recasting Magneto is difficult for a number of reasons. For one, McKellen already played him so expertly that an actor of his quality is absolutely essential—and not only that, but it'd be a good idea to find someone who looks like they could age into McKellen's likeness, which is very tricky. For that reason, I think it's more important to focus on finding an excellent, fitting actor for the role, rather than selecting an actor based on his likeness to McKellen.
When and if "X-Men Origins: Magneto" gets underway, »

If you're going to ask me which movie of Leonardo DiCaprio I remember the most, I'd say - 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape', and I'll have to add that even though Johnny Depp headlines the flick, both him and Leo stood out with their heartfelt performances- with DiCaprio earning an Oscar nom for his role. While I am inclined to say that Leo's role appears to be the more challenging, the acclaim he received stems from the fact that he really put himself into Arnie and he became that character.

This oughta get the True Blood-thirsty among you salivating! Since Alan Ball has confirmed that season 3 will make an animal attraction of the werewolf Alcide (who debuted in the third Sookie novel, Club Dead), I thought I — and, in turn, you — should help the series' busy, busy creator on his hunt for just the right actor to sink his teeth into the juicy part. My suggestions: Henry Cavill: If The Tudors' other heartthrob can look that good in tights and frilly shirts, we can't imagine he'd fare worse with back hair front and back. The question is, »

Directed by: Jane Campion
Cast: Abbie Cornish, Ben Whishaw, Paul Schneider
Running Time: 2 hrs
Rating: PG
Release Date: September 25, 2009
Plot: Romantic poet John Keats (Whishaw) meets and falls in love with Fanny Brawne (Cornish). But their love comes under fire from friends and family concerned about their disparity in wealth.
Who’S It For? You don’t have to be a fan of poetry to enjoy this film. But you should enjoy well written, well acted dramas.
Expectations: Advance word has been very positive. I always look forward to Campion films.
Scorecard (0-10)
Actors:
Abbie Cornish as Fanny Brawne: Aussie Cornish has been acquiring critical raves over the last few years for films like Candy and Stop-Loss. In Bright Star she plays a fashion obsessed young woman with strong opinions. But when she meets Keats she finds an immense capacity for love. The development of the romance between »

High-necked dresses and corsets characterize many period films, as does a matching, buttoned-up sensibility in terms of sensuality and relationships. But Jane Campion’s 19th- century set Bright Star is a warm, witty film that isn’t shy about demonstrating the love of Romantic poet John Keats (Ben Whishaw, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer) and Fanny Brawne (Abbie Cornish, Stop-Loss). Though sex is never part of the equation for the pair, a single touch or clasped hand radiates heat and affection.
Though Keats is obviously the more famous of the couple, Bright Star arrives from the perspective of his love. Fanny is a fashion-driven young woman who spends much of her time with her widowed mother (Kerry Fox, Shallow Grave) and her two younger siblings (Love Actually’s Thomas Sangster and delightful newcomer Edie Martin). When she meets John Keats, there is an immediate attraction between them, much to »

We never venture into gossip, but we certainly like to tackle controversies - and while critics and a certain type of movie goers are praising Jane Campion's latest film - Bright Star - and its lead cast, Abbie Cornish (currently ranked #2 at the Top 50 Hitlist) and Ben Whishaw (coincidentally also ranked #2 at the Top 50 Hitlist), Cornish has to endure a certain 'backlash' as a result of a relationship. Unlike Fanny Brawne, who gets to recite poetry and is the heroine in the movie, Cornish is being branded by certain people as a real-life 'villainess'.
