Trivia:
The producers asked the producers of Scary Movie 4 (2006) if they could use their bathroom set for this movie as it was an exact replica of the sets used in Saw (2004) and Saw II (2005). moreGoofs:
Factual errors: When Lynn treats the child's pneumothorax with a drainage, the nurse exclaims that the patient is improving. However, at that moment the monitor shows a ventricular fibrillation (VF), a severe arrhythmia that causes death unless immediately treated. Moreover, the VF spontaneously turns into a stable "normal-beat" heart rhythm without an electrical shock, situation that's almost impossible to see in the clinical practice. moreQuotes:
Dr. Lynn Denlon: I have the instruments to cut someone open. I don't have the tools to save a life.Amanda: [glances down at the reverse beartrap on the ground] You'd be surprised what tools can save a life.

First off, this film was as gory as hell! The gore increase routine didn't work out for the second film, but thanks to a great script that links the three together, it is merely pure entertainment emerged in a great story.
I am actually fairly shocked to see how many people slate this film. Some say it's the worst of the three, but in my opinion I don't believe it's too far off from the first movie. There is some originality - the most interesting traps and a story that goes back and forth to explain things in between movies. The first one probably has the best story as it is the original and the basis of these three films. However it's not easy to make a worthy sequel therefore I feel that Darren Lynn Bousman did an excellent job on this one.
I want to focus a little on the traps of Saw III. 'Wow' is the best word to describe it. The opening fifteen minutes is one of the goriest openings to a movie I have ever seen - and this is coming from a 'splatter' fan. This is a good thing because it hypes up the audience to an extent that the story build up after doesn't 'bore' anyone as such due to the initial shock. There is a nice break in gore during this development, but it's the ending of the film that contains much of its greatness.
As soon as that theme tune starts playing (for a second time in this one), you know you're expecting one of those great twists. Unfortunately a part of it was a little predictable, but that's okay as there's a few twists, one of which is still pretty shocking.
CONCLUSION: A lot of people that disliked this movie I think saw this before watching the first two. That's a big no-no! This film is only as great as I say it is if you've seen the lot. 7.4/10
