RoboCop 3 was a crap film and this game is just as dull and an even bigger waste of time. At this point in the 90s video games of movies (particularly platformers) were either brilliant or downright terrible. However, it was mostly the latter and RoboCop 3 is no exception.

The man in the can goes about his mission of shooting generic bad guys in windows (man in shirt with gun!) or thugs on bikes as he walks from the left side of the screen to the right. The levels are unimaginative and bland with occasionally bizarre design (yeah, there are often moving platforms on city streets!). The sound effects are poor and the music is mass-produced rubbish.

There is a tiny, tiny bit of variety in the different weapons Robo can use but when the gameplay is so boring why would you even waste your time?

Don't waste your time

Warning: Spoilers
I've played Robocop 3 for Sega and SNES.

Level 1 - Robocop roams the streets taking out thugs and at the end prepare for number of guys coming at all directions. It isn't that hard though. The hardest thing on this level is the occasional jumping.

Level 2 - A cameo by Ed 209 with him helping you against the Rehab's. Ed 209 really doesn't help much. The end boss is some giant robot.

Level 3 - Fun but hard, Robocop shoots and dodges things using his jet pack.

Level 4 - Takes place at the church ending with you fighting a ninja robot with no gun.

Level 5 - More flying action using Robo's jet pack capped off by fighting 2 more ninja robots.

Robocop's arsenal consist of his usual gun using single fire, double fire and triple fire. He also can use his 3 in 1 gun which has a flame thrower. Maybe its just me but I feel you run out of ammo too easily on this game. On the movies Robocop barely reloads.

This game is very hard. What makes it harder to complete is they give you a certain amount of continues before they make you start the entire game over. Your best bet to getting far is using a cheat device unless you're a video game master or a die-hard Robocop fan and just want it for a collection.

Can be frustrating

RoboCop 3 on the Mega Drive/Genesis and SNES is a side scrolling shooting/platform game based on the film RoboCop 3, the game sees you playing as the Future of Law Improvement as you go through six levels which require you to get from point A to point B while you shoot any enemies that are in your way, these enemies consist of street thugs, robots, OCP soldiers and on one level small killer rats (Yes that's right, rats can kill RoboCop in this game.), the game play is pretty easy to pick up since all you just do is move and shoot. The graphics are pretty good and the music is okay, one problem RoboCop 3 does have is that it can be difficult at times making it frustrating for the player. One thing is that RoboCop moves slow making it easy for the enemy to hit you with their shots and sometimes your health can deplete quite quickly depending on what hit you. There are power-ups for RoboCop to pick up like health and new weapons which more do more damage to your opponents. Not all the levels are just side scrolling, there are two levels that see you flying around with the Jet-pack blasting various enemies that get in your way like R-Type, these levels can also be difficult since there's so many things shooting at you it can be hard to avoid every attack.

RoboCop 3 is a good game but it can be very frustrating at times, there are some better RoboCop games out there like the original RoboCop arcade, RoboCop Versus The Terminator and RoboCop 3 on the Amiga. If you're a fan of RoboCop or you like to play challenging video games than you might want to give this game a try.
