Mike White Chronicling The Real-Bearded Santa War

20 November 2009 7:46 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

The radio show This American Life has a well-earned reputation for catering to urban hipster crowds who like to feel like they're learning about the "real" America, but there's a dark secret there: the stories they tell are usually really, really good. The only major feature so far based on a This American Life segment has been the disappointing kids movie Unaccompanied Minors, but the show's producers have been cannier about striking Hollywood deals lately, and now they seem to have come upon a real winner. Mike White, the School of Rock writer and Amazing Race contestant and unfortunate Gentlemen Broncos participant, has been hired to write Santa Wars, based on a This American Life segment about two rival organizations for professional Santa Clauses. You can listen to the full episode online to learn about the drama within the Amalgamated Order of Real Bearded Santas. It's just as fascinating as …

Wilmer Valderrama to Play the Dog Whisperer in a New Sitcom

19 October 2009 10:35 AM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Wilmer Valderrama is going to the dogs. The former star of That '70s Show will star in a half-hour sitcom based on the escapades of Dog Whisperer Cesar Millan now being developed for Fox, reports Variety. Cesar's Way author Millan, who has re-trained some of the worst-behaved dogs ever to appear onscreen, has been involved in many, er, hairy adventures that will presumably be fodder for the new show. Related: What You Don't Know About CesarWhile details of the project remain sketchy, the trade paper says Hung co-executive producer Emily Kapnek is onboard to write and executive produce, and both Valderrama, …

Jay Leno Show Announces More Correspondents

8 September 2009 3:11 PM, PDT | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

The Jay Leno Show is set to debut on NBC on Monday, September 14 and whether you are excited or disgusted with this 'future of television' idea that is his show, chances are you're probably going to tune in, at least for those first few episodes.  The buzz generated around this odd concept that will combine topical humor, celebrity guests, street correspondents, and God only knows what other comedic elements has been at an all-time high lately, and many reports are confirming the facts that even if Leno comes in dead last every night of the week in ratings, his show could still be profitable and lead NBC forward into the future.  Of course, that doesn't mean that his ratings don't matter, but exactly what ratings NBC hopes for or expects is a question they haven't seemed willing ot answer yet.  So is the future of NBC on that any of …

Mitchel Musso Caught Locking Lips With Girlfriend Gia Mantegna

2 August 2009 7:50 PM, PDT | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Mitchel Musso's actress girlfriend Gia Mantegna posted their making-out picture in her Twitter page on Saturday, August 1. In the shot, the twosome was seen sharing a passionate kiss. In companion to the photo, Gina wrote, "Aren't we cute?"

"Hannah Montana" star Mitchel Musso first met Gia Mantegna during the premiere of her comedy film "Unaccompanied Minors" earlier this year. "I saw her in a 7-Eleven, where I was buying Red Bull and chips and donuts. She walked in, we said hi to each other, and I got her number. Then one night, my friends and I were throwing a party at my buddy's club, and I called her to come with me. She came - and the rest is history," the 18-year-old actor told Seventeen's June edition about his first meeting with Gia.

Asked about what made him got attracted to Gia, Mitchel said, "Whenever a ton of boys are around, …

Take a Dip in the ‘Hot Tub Time Machine’ [Red Band Trailer]

25 July 2009 11:41 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Do you like hot tubs? Have you ever sat in your room wishing you could go back in time and make up for all of your short-comings as a teenager? Well, someone had the absolutely brilliant idea to combine both items and give us the awesomest movie idea to ever come out of Hollywood (well besides Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus) - Hot Tub Time Machine.

Director Steve Pink (Accepted) teams up with writers Josh Heald and Andrew Mogel to try and bring some laughs and originality to the Hot Tub Time Machine.  This is Heald’s first credited writing attempt and the second for Mogel who wrote the screenplay for Jim Carrey’s Yes Man. These three guys may not have a lot of background in directing and writing but that hasn’t stopped the 34th Street Films movie from picking up some pretty big names to star.

Mindy Kaling Signs NBC Development Deal

5 May 2009 10:38 PM, PDT | TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news »

Mindy Kaling, who plays Kelly Kapoor on NBC’s hit comedy The Office, has signed an overall deal with the network and Universal Media Studios. Under terms of the two-year deal, Kaling will continue to write for and appear on The Office next season while simultaneously developing a comedy in which she would also star. Much like 30 Rock star-executive producer Fey, Kaling is known for both her writing and acting skills. Behind the scenes, Kaling is a co-exec producer on The Office, having written notable episodes including "The Dundies," "Diwali" and this season's "Golden Ticket." Kaling, who notes that her time at The Office has been akin to going through "the Greg Daniels Graduate School of Writing," said her tastes now skew in the single-camera comedy direction -- but that she isn't opposed to writing a multi-camera comedy. In kicking around different development ideas, Kaling said she's drawn to workplace …

Errol Morris Takes On A Frozen Man

16 April 2009 9:03 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

It's surprising that the radio show This American Life has inspired just one movie, and that movie, Unaccompanied Minors, turned out so uninteresting. The weekly broadcast features some of the most fascinating stories you'll hear, from dark family dramas (try this one) to the story of a voicemail message that became a campus sensation in the early 90s (trust me, you'll be glad you listened). But lately Ira Glass and company seem to be doing better at scoring movie deals, and now a story that re-aired over the weekend, "You're As Cold As Ice," will become a narrative feature directed by Errol Morris, who is mostly known for his documentaries. Officially called Untitled Cryonics Project, the movie will tell the story of Robert F. Nelson, who in the 1960s was part of a cryonics society and wound up putting several bodies in deep freeze, intending to revive them in a …

Public Radio Goes To The Movies

12 March 2009 5:29 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

The last time This American Life Ira Glass agreed to produce a movie based on a segment from his show, it turned a touching story about children of divorce into the unremarkable kids movie Unaccompanied Minors. But the public radio heartthrob is willing to give the movie biz another shot, and will lend a hand to a movie adaptation of the short story "Wenceslas Square," which aired on the show last summer. The story is about as different from the Unaccompanied Minors one as you can get, a fictional account of two spies who fall in love while participating in separate missions. Variety writes that it will be the first film produced by This American Life itself, teaming up with Endgame Entertainment. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who wrote the first two Chronicles of Narnia films, are writing the screenplay. Glass is truly gifted at creating his radio show, and …
