A good subject, a poor film
kinoouf18 December 2007
First, I was very excited and could'nt wait to go and see that film. Mainly because I found "Les convoyeurs attendent" an unexpectedly poetic and funny film, , and there was also some kind of despair in it, and I loved it. But in Cow-Boy, despite some honest moments, and good actors, some incredible faces, the film fakes to bring me along into the story. I think that the subject (a man realises that his life is dramatically different from his dreamed life, that he turned his back to what he believed in) is to big for the means of the director. You have to be very subtle to deal with ideology in cinema. It's a total failure on that matter. What I liked a bit more is the film maker attempt to portrait the nervous breakdown of the main character. But everything is to cliché, especially the wife. At the end of the film, you have the feeling that it should begin where it's ending. I hope Benoit Marriage will do better next time.

Not a comedy, not a good movie

When I see Benoit Poelvoorde and François Damiens in the same movie I expect to see a comedy, a movie that is going to make me laugh. When I see on IMDb that this movie is supposed to be a comedy I'm expecting a movie that is going to make me laugh. But nothing could be further from reality with Cow-Boy. It isn't a comedy and if it is supposed to be than then it's a failure. It's a drama, but also a failure in that genre. Benoit Poelvoorde should just stick to the roles he is best at, and that is comedies. François Damiens, better known as his character François l'Embrouille here, is also only good in comedies. Why they made this movie is a mystery to me. It's a waste of time and money. The story of the movie is a journalist that is making a movie about a hostage scenario from 25 years ago with the people from that time but 25 years later. At one point the cameraman and one of the actors tell the journalist his movie was ridicule. They couldn't have been more right.

cow boy : a different Poelvoorde

Having seen "Cow-boy" several month ago, the cinema ticket is still in my pocket and will stay there as long as the paper resists. For those anxious to see Benoît Poelvoorde in a much more subtle play, this is the movie to watch ! In this true story, he makes tons of stuff to be recognized to finally see that he falls away of all his deepest feelings; I was so exited after the projection that I wrote to the director to explain my enthusiasm and, a few months later, I played a character in one of his student s'movie ! Unfortunately, the film didn't had much success but nevertheless, no doubt that work is to be taken among one of the best of the cinema.
