Ava DuVernay’s latest Netflix project will examine the life and career of civil rights activist and former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick via “Colin in Black & White,” which is slated to premiere October 29 on Netflix. Netflix unveiled the trailer for the six-episode limited series on Tuesday, October 11. Watch the first full trailer below.
Per Netflix, the limited series “chronicles Kaepernick’s coming of age story, tackling the obstacles of race, class, and culture as the Black adopted child of a white family. ‘Colin in Black & White’ stars Jaden Michael as Young Colin before reaching the highest levels of American football as an NFL quarterback and becoming a cultural icon and activist; Nick Offerman and Mary-Louise Parker as his well-meaning parents Rick and Teresa; and Colin Kaepernick himself, who appears as the present-day narrator of his own story, guiding viewers through a robust and colorfully presented array of historical and contemporary contextual moments.

There seem to be more Russian Dolls every time that they perform on “The Masked Singer.” Indeed, we counted four of them when they nailed their cover of “24K Magic” by Bruno Mars on April 21. Their solid gold singing landed them a spot in “The Spicy 6 – The Competition Heats Up!” episode, which airs on May 5.
We’ve been fans of the Russian Dolls since they led off the Week 1 show with their cover of the Michael Jackson classic “Man in the Mirror.” They shone in Week 3 with “Wonder” by Shawn Mendes and then again in Week 6 with “Want to Want Me” by Jason Derulo.
Like you, we’ve been wondering just who is hidden inside these cumbersome costumes. So we went back and watched all four of their performances as well as the clues video packages. And we weighed up the guesses by the four judges that they were 98 Degrees or Pentatonix.

Now nine episodes into its first season, The Handmaid’s Tale has firmly established itself as one of the best shows of 2017.
Adapted from Margaret Atwood’s 1985 novel, the Hulu original series tells the story of women placed in servitude -- and subjected to ritualized rape in order to stave off infertility -- shortly after the fall of the U.S. government to a totalitarian and Christian fundamentalist government known as Gilead. At the center of this near-future dystopian saga (and the audience’s narrator) is Offred (Elisabeth Moss), a woman caught while trying to flee to Canada and eventually forced to become a handmaid in the household of Commander Fred Waterford and his wife, Serena Joy (played by Joseph Fiennes and Yvonne Strahovski).
Since its premiere, The Handmaid’s Tale has earned critical praise for its effective (and horrifying) storytelling led by showrunner Bruce Miller, as well as its chilling timeliness as it relates to the...

DaguerrotypeDear Fern,I've heard a lot of mixed things here about Terrence Malick's Voyage of Time, so I'm very pleased at your enraptured praise. Did you know from the first moment that you liked it so much? Sometimes, in those rare special occasions, you know right off that a film is great. From the first shot of Kelly Reichardt’s Certain Women, a grainy Montana landscape grayed by winter, with hills so soft in they could be painted on, and a train arcing its way towards the camera, it is clear this film is special. Based on stories by author Maile Meloy, the film takes the unusual form of a sequence of three stories, all set in small town Montana, and each foregrounded on a woman and her conflicted yearning.Laura Dern is a lawyer whose client (Jared Harris) in a dead-end malfeasance lawsuit gets increasingly dejected and unhinged...

We’ve got two clips for you to watch from Warner Bros. Animation’s upcoming animated film Batman: Bad Blood. The first clip is called “Dates,” and it’s an action sequence that features Nightwing fighting the villain Blockbuster. The second clip is called “Gone,” and it shows us a conversation Nightwing and Alfred have about Batman’s disappearance.
When Batman goes missing, it will take the entire Bat “family” – including new additions Batwoman and Batwing – to keep the peace in Gotham City and unravel the mystery behind the Dark Knight’s disappearance in Batman: Bad Blood.
This movie was inspired by a few different Batman stories including Batman: R.I.P., Batman & Robin, and Batman Inc. It's also a follow-up to the previous animated films Son of Batman and Batman vs. Robin. If you liked those two movies, then you're sure to enjoy this one.

Editor's Note: I asked Team Experience to tell us what they're thankful for this year during the holiday weekend. Here's Jose in the cinematic spirit.
Jose here. This year I’m thankful...
For Hardy with puppies. And Godard with Roxy.
For Keira, Kristen and Kirsten.
For snakes made out of clouds.
For cruising in French lakes (even with killers on the loose)
For movies about toys that didn’t treat me like a kid.
For Marion x 2. For Joaquin Phoenix x 2. For Chastain x 4 (she doesn't make it seem like bragging either!)
For Dan Stevens’ abs and killer acting chops (pun intended).
For Shia in the buff.
For Carrie Coon and Jenny Slate (can they play sisters some day?).
For Swedish films about skiing that reminded me how much I love Mike Nichols.
For Broadway actors in movies (I'm looking at you Jefferson Mays in Inherent Vice).
For Edward Norton's tan.

We saw her in the closing moments of episode 806 "A Dark Reflection," but now that she's resurfaced in Dexter's life, what exactly does she want? Also, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) has decided to take on a protegee and teach him Harry's "code." Is the impatient Zach Hamilton (Sam Underwood) ready though? Check out these 2 clips from episode 807 "Dress Code" to give you a hint at all of the above. And you can catch up by reading Alyse's TV recap of 'Dexter' 806.

After much speculation, it seems that we now know the identity of Marvel's secret film that's been long targeted for a May 2014 release. And it's not "Ant-Man," or "Black Panther," or "Runaways," or "Doctor Strange." It's "Guardians Of The Galaxy," the cosmic adventure that was a favorite in the 1970s before being revived recently.
Originally, the Guardians were a group of superpowered individuals from an alternate timeline in the 31st century, including human astronaut Vance Astro, humanoid crystal Martinex T'Naga, soldier from Jupiter Charlie-27, and Yonda Udonta, a savage from Beta Centurai. The team (whose lineup would have other shifts), battled a number of adversaries, including alien race the Badoon, and teamed up with The Avengers before the series was cancelled in the 1990s. A more recent 2008 update relaunched the property with a new lineup, including long-time characters like Star-Lord, Adam Warlock, Gamora and Quasar, and it's been suggested that...

James Watkins is the director of The Woman in Black, ghost-story horror in U.S. Theaters on Friday, February 3 2012. Watkins, 31, is at the beginning of his career as a filmmaker having mostly writing credits on his brief resume (My Little Eye, Gone, The Descent Part 2) and one directing credit (Eden Lake) but the impact of these films is strong, and he’s stepped directly into the Hammer Studios resurgence The Woman in Black. James talks with Don Sumner of Best-Horror-Movies.com in an exclusive interview, discussing the glory days of Hammer, working with Daniel Radcliffe in his first “non-Potter” role, and how to make a horror movie very scary by allowing the audience’s imagination to do much of the work.

Chicago – The summer movie season is officially over (sigh), and now it’s time for Hollywood to show off what they’ve got planned for us next. (If we had to guess, we say bet on more “Pirates” movies and less “Green Lantern” sequels.) It’s still a little early to get full trailers for the big holiday/Oscar season films, so we’ll have to make due with mid-level releases and marginalia this week – movies targeted for release pre-holiday 2011 or post-New Year 2012 – and it’s an odd mix. A horror-action sequel resurrecting old characters, a classical haunted house flick staring an iconic actor known best for one role he played for ten years straight, and a thriller starring two Oscar-winning actors that looks… let’s just say it looks like an interesting (possibly notorious) addition to their overall resumes.
But, regardless, as trailer devotees, we here at HollywoodChicago.com...

James Watkins’ Eden Lake was one of the best films of 2008 and a fantastic debut feature. The clever mixing of thriller genre traits with contemporary social fears created a nerve-shattering experience helped by the performances of Michael Fassbender and Kelly Reilly and a particularly bleak ending. It also made you think twice about visiting the woods for a day out.
It was 2002’s My Little Eye that got him noticed as a new talent to watch in British cinema and Eden Lake established him as a director of great promise.
He’s currently working on an adaptation of Susan Hill’s spine-tingly ghost story classic, The Woman in Black. James Watkins very recently chatted to FilmShaft about his career to date, Eden Lake and his plans for The Woman in Black.

With The Midnight Meat Train and The Book Of Blood already in the can, La-based company Midnight Picture Show is now turning its attention to the aptly titled Dread and has just released this exclusive still from the film!
The latest installment from Clive Barker's Books Of Blood, Dread is a psychological thriller centering on three college students who study other people's fears. As the study progresses, one of the students begins to seek salvation from his obsession by exploiting the terrors of his fellow participants.
Directed by Anthony Diblasi and starring Jackson Rathbone (Twilight), Shaun Evans (Gone) and newcomers Hanne Steen and Laura Donnelly, the film is now in post-production, having completed principal photography in the UK in November.
We caught up with the production on set in Egham, Surrey, on the penultimate day of shooting, where the mood in the camp was buoyant. "I've really enjoyed it,...

The ironically titled Eden Lake is anything but ironic in its execution. A horror genre hybrid, that seamlessly mixes elements of backwoods horror (Deliverance, Southern Comfort, Calvaire), slasher (Friday 13th, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and yuppie-in-peril movies (Pacific Heights, Single White Female) it would be easy for such a film to be smothered under the weight of its influences. But James Watkins’ (writer of 2002’s My Little Eye and 2007’s Gone) directorial debut anchors it all to a very topical, very British threat and tabloid favourite, the ‘hoodie’ – a clothing based moniker beloved of the British media to represent all that is 21st century yob culture. Watkins transports these typically urban pests to the countryside, and in doing so relieves them of their hoods but none of their menace.
