During the entire episode of "Battleground," not a single word is spoken.
In the chapter "The Road Virus Heads North", the writer Richard Kinnel seems to be himself a fan of Stephen King, as when he is running away from the ghost in his house, we can see on the floor two of King's books, "Pet Sematary" and "Tommyknockers" (42'00").
At the end of episode "Crouch End", the escaping couple see/hear names of creatures from H.P. Lovecraft, as Cthulu Kryon, Yogsoggoth, R'yeleh, Nrtesn nyarlahotep, Whistler from the Stars, Blind Piper, The Goat with a Thousand Young. Most of them from the writer's Cthulhu-myth.
Richard Matheson wrote the episode of The Twilight Zone' s "The Invaders" as well as "Prey" from Trilogy of Terror. Richard Christian Matheson, his son, wrote the teleplay for Battleground, which references both of these stories.
The Zuni fetish doll from "Trilogy of Terror" makes a brief appearance as it gets destroyed by the soldiers.
