First for the Frank, Al, Dan era of Monday Night Football Era of Three Super Bowls
ShelbyTMItchell18 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Denver was suppose to be the favorites but having John Elway as a one man show and that of no defense, really the Redskins wanted it more and Doug Williams became the first African American QB to win a SB and shut up his naysayers. 35 Points in the second quarer that is something to be never been repeated since and the way it goes, it will never be.

It is the first game for the MNF trio of Frank Gifford, Al Michaels, Dan Dierdorf given the show 11-year run and two other SB's XXV and XXIX there. As really Frank became the straight man and host while Al then known as an MLB announcer has become known for football, and Dan so underrated as an analyst but really shined here

Frank has since passed away in 2015, in his latter years took a backseat to his much more famous wife, Kathie Lee. Dan does Michigan his alma matter, college football games after a brief retirement to go back to CBS after being left go by ABC in 1998, stayed there from 1999-2014 for CBS and Al is currently on Sunday Night Football.

But still the best MNF trio I grew up with and still miss.

Truly a magical trip...in so many ways.

Start with the auction of 2 of the 4 season tickets to be able to afford to go to the home games in the first place, then by the luck of a lottery gaining the right to purchase 2 tickets to the super bowl. What more could 2 kids (former) ever ask to have happen, heck with part time jobs and classes living in group homes all was right with the world. We had the tickets BUT the game was in San Diego....in the language of the times. We NEED a Miracle, in every way.

For every year we could remember we gathered to pile into one vehicle to save on the 5.00 parking fee. How we got to San Diego was a trail of fun and help from so many angles along the way.

Catching a train to get an affordable flight to switching up on destinations so as to get a shuttle bus hotel shuttle to the stop at Barney's Beanery and Venice Beach mixed with a stop at Beaver's house along the way......and then the GAME. As a Skin's Fan heaven was viewed for a moment.

More tears for Denver. A warpath rout.
blanbrn27 January 2007
Super Bowl XXII was a tale of a great first quarter for Denver then a nightmare for the following three quarters. I remember watching this as a kid when John Elway jumped his team out to a 10-0 lead only to later fall apart and get crushed by the Redskins. I must say not being a Denver fan, being a young kid I pulled for Denver to win, because I respected Elway's talent and I felt he should have won a Super Bowl on this day after starting with a 10-0 advantage. The win was not to be it shows you how things change quickly especially in big games, this would bring tears to my eyes just like it did the city of Denver! When the 2nd quarter began the rout started Doug Williams came alive driving the Skins offense to 5 2nd quarter touchdowns, and Washington would benefit from one season wonder RB Timmy Smith who rushed for 204 yards. The final Washington 42 Denver 10, a sad day and one of the biggest blowout super bowls in history, I cried for John Elway.
