The first decade of the new millennium has come to an end, and that means it is now time for film sites all over the web to begin posting their various retrospectives and lists recalling the decade that was. I generally as a rule dislike such lists because they are always so subjective. Then I said screw it and took it upon myself to do one of my own naming the ten worst horror movies of the past decade. Besides, people love bitching on the Internet about lists like this, and who am I to deny readers yet another excuse to get into pointless flame wars over personal opinions.
Of course, this list is just my personal opinion which is not legally binding ... unless Proposition 304 passes. And we all pray that it will.
I set two rules when putting this list together: Only horror movies that received fairly wide theatrical

Let's get this out of the way: I'm no Sandra Bullock bully. I know, I gave her crap for looking all too perky in her long-delayed rom-com All About Steve (which is currently scheduled to bow on September 4th instead of last March, after The Proposal did well by her and The Hangover put co-star Bradley Cooper in a more recognizable realm). But she seems terribly content to play it safe, merely bantering with Hugh Grant or Benjamin Bratt or Ryan Reynolds, with diversions into dramatic territory either little-seen (Infamous, Loverboy) or little-loved (Premonition).
The most prominent exception to that streak would have to be Paul Haggis' Crash, and while I don't think that Bullock is so scheming as to put herself in another Oscar-baiting melodrama out of hopes of continuing that glory to more... individual ends, I hardly think it's coincidence that The Blind Side is the based-on-a-true-story

North American box office: ‘The Proposal’ in wedded bliss with audiences

I despair. I do. Sandra Bullock’s most excruciating romantic comedy ever has given her, by far, her biggest opening weekend ever, almost doubling her previous biggest opening, 2007’s Premonition, which debuted to the tune of $17.6 million.
The Hangover has now sailed past $150 million. Since last weekend, Up sailed past not just $200 million but also $225 million, and also (as Box Office Mojo notes) past Wall-e’s final North American gross of $223.8 million. And it’s only in its fourth week. Up will play for the rest of the summer. So will The Hangover, consider the relatively small drops both films too this weekend.
And guess who was was also up? Star Trek, rising only one percent over last weekend, but still: it’s already the most successful film in the franchise, and it will easily continue on to pass $250 million before it’s done.

Not much new to report here. The Proposal had a decent 2.65x multiplier, ending the weekend with $33.6 million. That makes this film the ninth-biggest romantic comedy opening of all time. This nearly doubles the previous opening weekend peak for Sandra Bullock, as her prior record holder, Premonition, opened to $17.5 million. Bullock has always been less of a sprinter and more of a marathon runner, so it'll be interesting to see how this fast out of the gate film holds up over the long haul. On the plus side, the word of mouth is solid and there is little competition until The Ugly Truth arrives on July 24th.
Just how much credit Ryan Reynolds deserves for this opening is certainly worth discussing, but for now I'll simply chalk it up to putting two popular stars

Weekend Box Office - Proposal Uncovers Cash Chemistry

Chemistry is usually marked as something between two actors playing a romantic couple but this weekend Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds managed to create chemistry of a different kind, one that.s even more important to an actor.s career these days. Mashed together on the screen in The Proposal the two carved out some financial chemistry to the tune of $34 million, an opening neither has managed on their own or with anyone else.
It may be hard to believe but according to records at Box Office Mojo, Bullock has never been in a movie that debuted at more than $20 million (her personal best was $17.6 million in last year.s Premonition). Likewise, Reynolds hasn.t made his mark for the big bucks. Apart from X-Men Origins: Wolverine (which wasn.t exactly a Ryan Reynold.s vehicle) his top opening was 2003.s remake of Amityville Horror ($23 million).

Romantic comedy "The Proposal" has led North American box office. Debuted atop the revenue chart, this Anne Fletcher-directed film rang up $33.6 million over the course of the June 19 to 21 weekend and thus became the movie that ended the reign of last two weeks' champ, "The Hangover".
This comedy movie did not only surpass industry's prediction that it will open in mid-$20-million range, but also marked the best opening ever for its leading actress, Sandra Bullock. The weekend bow for "The Proposal" nearly doubled the opening cume of Bullock's previous best, "Premonition", which debuted to $17.6 million in 2007.
"The word of mouth on this movie was incredible. First and foremost, you gotta make a great movie, which Anne Fletcher did," said Chuck Viane, president of distribution for Walt Disney Studios. He also noted, "We never expected to double the best Sandra Bullock movie ever ['Premonition']." As for its overseas opening, the

Movie audiences said “I do” to The Proposal over the weekend, bestowing an estimated $34.1 million dollars on it — well above analysts’ predictions — and making it the weekend’s best performer at the box office. For Sandra Bullock, who appeared in her first film in 1987, it was the best opening of her career, earning nearly twice the amount of her previous best, 2007’s Premonition, which took in $17.6 million. Meanwhile, the only other film to open wide over the weekend, the Jack Black-Michael Cera comedy Year One took in about $20.2 million, — at the high end of expectations — to place fourth. At the same time, Warner Bros.’ The Hangover hung in for a third week to place second with $26.9 million, only 18 percent below the previous weekend. And Disney’s Up continued to float close behind in third place with $21.3 million, to bring its four-week total to $224.1 million, the second-best gross of the year, behind Star Trek. In limited release, Woody Allen’s Whatever Works opened in nine theaters in New York and Los Angeles with $280,720 — or a solid $31,191 per theater. Overall, the box office was up 3 percent above the comparable weekend a year ago, following three consecutive down weekends.

Audiences Accept ‘The Proposal’

Audiences said “Yes” to Disney’s The Proposal, which earned an estimated $34.1 million. So what if it’s generic?
The successful opening was Sandra Bullock’s first number one in ten years and easily the biggest of her 22-year film career. The closest debut was last year’s horror thriller Premonition with $17M. (For the record, Speed was 15 years ago and opened to $14M.) This makes the second first place for Ryan Reynolds, who played Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine last month. It’s also the largest debut for three-time director and two-time wedding filmmaker Anne Fletcher.
There are several possible explanations for the big finish. There hasn’t been a major romantic comedy release since the start of the summer and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, so female audiences (73%) were looking for something among all the special effects blockbusters. Plus women love Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. It also opened against long-standing holdovers,

"The Proposal" scored the summer's first big romantic comedy hit! The Sandra Bullock-Ryan Reynolds flick sold $34.1 million worth of tickets debuting at No. 1.
The film beat Bullock's previous No. 1 film, "Premonition," which took in $17.6 million.
(Check out my movie review of "The Proposal" right here, and my interviews with the cast and Director Anne Fletcher right here)
Previous No. 1 film for two weekends in a row, the super-funny "The Hangover" slipped to No. 2 with $26.9 million. But the bachelor-party comedy is on its merry way to $200 million mark. So far, "The Hangover" raised its total to $152.9 million, not bad for a film that was made for $30 million.
Meanwhile, the Disney-Pixar animated adventure "Up" landed at No. 3 with $21.3 million at the box-office lifting its total to $224.1 million. "Up" is very close to beating "Star Trek" as the biggest movie of 2009, so far.

Friday Box Office: Reintroducing Sandra Bullock

In a year when box office analysts have cast doubt on star power (and comrades like Julia Roberts have gone down in flames), one wouldn't necessarily expect Sandra Bullock to bust out her biggest opening ever, but with The Proposal, she did. In fact, she practically beat her prior weekend record ($17.6 million for Premonition, a film we all forgot existed) on Friday alone. Meanwhile, Year One came in at the high end of expectations; with an $8.5 million Friday, at least it's assured of opening better than Land of the Lost, our current flop comedy watermark.
The Proposal: $12,400,000 (new)
Year One: $8,500,000 (new)
The Hangover: $8,465,000 ($134,529,000)
Up: $6,100,000 ($208,876,000)
The Taking Of Pelham 1 2 3: $3,200,000 ($35,232,000)
Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian: $2,150,000 ($150,803,000)
Star Trek: $1,250,000 ($235,994,000)
Land Of The Lost: $1,237,000 ($40,934,000)
Imagine That: $990,000 ($9,241,000)
Terminator Salvation: $840,000 ($117,283,000)

Sandra Bullock is set to star in Alcon Entertainment's upcoming football dramatic comedy "The Blindside."
Variety says the project is based on Michael Lewis' "The Blind Side: Evolution of the Game."
The story follows Michael Oher, who everyone believes is the one of the first players to be picked in the year's NFL draft. As a teenager, Oher was homeless and found shelter with a wealthy family.
The trade says Bullock will play the conservative suburban family's matriarch.
John Lee Hancock, whose credits include "The Rookie" and "The Alamo," wrote the screenplay and will direct the film.
Bullock, who was last seen in "Premonition," has two projects coming up this year: "The Proposal" and "All About Steve."

Sandra Bullock is throwing in the towel as Hollywood rom-com go-to-girl, and embracing the joys of motherhood in her new role in the football drama-comedy The Blindside. Bullock will play the matriarch of a rich family in the suburbs who take in a homeless teen who turns out to be a potential NFL star.Things had been a bit quiet of late in the Bullock household, with her last film being 2007's Premonition. But now everyone's favourite pageant cop is back with three films in a row - and even a rumoured role in the ever expanding Expendables (as if the addition of Arnie wasn't enough - it just keeps getting better).Of course, Miss Bullock hasn't abandoned her rom-com mainstay altogether, as she hooks up with Ryan Reynolds as a cougar boss in need of a green card in The Proposal; and in All About Steve - where she
