The Foywonder's Ten Worst Horror Films of the Decade

23 December 2009 8:31 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

The first decade of the new millennium has come to an end, and that means it is now time for film sites all over the web to begin posting their various retrospectives and lists recalling the decade that was. I generally as a rule dislike such lists because they are always so subjective. Then I said screw it and took it upon myself to do one of my own naming the ten worst horror movies of the past decade. Besides, people love bitching on the Internet about lists like this, and who am I to deny readers yet another excuse to get into pointless flame wars over personal opinions.

Of course, this list is just my personal opinion which is not legally binding ... unless Proposition 304 passes. And we all pray that it will.

I set two rules when putting this list together: Only horror movies that received fairly wide theatrical »

The Notable Films of 2010: Part Four

19 December 2009 11:50 PM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Georgia

Opens: 2010

Cast: Val Kilmer, Andy Garcia, Rupert Friend, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Johnathon Schaech

Director: Renny Harlin

Summary: An American journalist, his cameraman, and a Georgian native get caught in the crossfire of the five-day Russia-Georgia conflict in August 2008, and then have to deal with their obligation to be impartial.

Analysis: A timely parable on war, or Hollywood propaganda filmmaking at its worst? Wherever it goes, especially in Europe and the former Soviet states, "Georgia" will cause a lot of talk and controversy as the incidents depicted are still so fresh in many's minds. Like all topics of the sort, it'll also have its strong supporters and detractors having opinions on the film long before a frame of footage is screened anywhere.

Shot on-location in Tbilisi, the project also marks a potential return to form for Finnish director Renny Harlin. Given the right material the skilled action director delivered three »

Georgia Rule

28 October 2009 10:40 AM, PDT | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

Some directors bounce back from a roster of cinematic turkeys, but the combined effect of Cutthroat Island, The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, and Driven seem to have invoked a "three strikes and you're out" rule for Renny Harlin. The onetime top director has spent the last few years making films like The Covenant and the John Cena starrer 12 Rounds, and he's now set Val Kilmer and Emmanuelle Chriqui to star in Georgia, a war film about last year's military conflict between Russia and Georgia. Which one of them is playing the explosion? [THR] »

Emmanuelle Chriqui Joins Val Kilmer in Renny Harlin’s Georgia

27 October 2009 11:19 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Before we continue, Renny Harlin’s upcoming film “Georgia” is not about The Peach State and the tale how Coca-Cola will one day flow out of our drinking fountains.  “Georgia” is based on last year’s conflict between Russia and the country of Georgia.  THR reports that hottie/red-carpet eye candy Emmanuelle Chriqui will play opposite Val Kilmer in the drama about an American journalist (Kilmer) and his cameraman caught in the crossfire and a Georgia native (Chriqui) and doctoral student who becomes entangled with them.

Chriqui is best known for her role on “Entourage” playing the love interest of Kevin Connolly’s character, Eric.  Since “Entourage’ is a fantasy, I believe the most recent episode featured a tearful goodbye between them before Eric had to go and drop the The One Ring into Mount Doom.  Kilmer has appeared in numerous roles but he has a lifetime free pass from »

Emmanuelle Chriqui and Val Kilmer Head to Georgia for Renny Harlin

27 October 2009 9:10 PM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

It may be hard to believe now, but once upon a time Renny Harlin was an in-demand action movie director, having directed hits like “Die Hard 2″, “Cliffhanger”, and “The Long Kiss Goodnight”. More recently, not so much. Harlin hasn’t exactly had the best of resumes in the last few years, with junk like “The Covenant” and “12 Rounds” to his credit. He’s looking to rise from direct-to-dvd hell (and bad movies starring wrestlers) with the kinda-current themed “Georgia”, a war drama that will be set in the country of Georgia and star Val Kilmer as a journalist covering the recent Russia-Georgia conflict. “Entourage” star Emmanuelle Chriqui (who can also be seen in the delightful sounding “Women in Trouble”) has now been added to the cast as a Georgian native and doctoral student who becomes tangled up with Kilmer and his cameraman during the event. Harlin will produce and direct the movie, »

Review: The Stepfather

16 October 2009 1:10 AM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

As if by magic, The Stepfather is almost exactly like the outward persona of its main character - it's likable, good, and mostly knows what to say, but it's not lovable, great, and its definitely not without its flaws. Essentially, on the metaphorical amps in my mind, everything here has been cranked up to 6. Perhaps the most apt description of the film is that it's competent commercial filmmaking, but nothing at all special. David Harris (or whatever his name is going to be with the next family (Dylan Walsh)) leaves a murdered family behind to go find a new one, and stumbles upon Susan (Sela Ward) and her two kids in the supermarket. A few months of courtship later, he's moved in just in time for her oldest son Michael (Penn Badgley) to come home from military school for the summer. Can they be the perfect family, or will have to kill them all and move on »

10 Most Overrated Young Actors

13 October 2009 7:18 PM, PDT | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

We've listed down our top 50 hottest young actors and would be coming up with the latest updates very soon. Yesterday, we discussed  about actors we believed to be quite underrated. How about the young actors we consider overrated? That's what this article is for...

- - -

- - -

Who qualifies as overrated? Guys who seem to be getting lots of buzz, but has no real talent at all, or perhaps just a small amount of it. I have no issue if an actor gets the cover of GQ or Details or L'Uomo Vogue every month. They can even strut their stuff on the catwalks of Milan and Paris and gain additional media mileage. But to be considered the hottest actor on the planet with nothing to show yet? That is something totally absurd.

Anyway, here's our list of ten just after the jump!

Ed Westwick and Toby Hemingway Allegedly Involved in Bar Brawl

11 August 2009 2:46 AM, PDT | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Ed Westwick has been reported to be involved in a quarrel at a bar with fellow British actor Toby Hemingway. The two stars were said attending birthday party of former Nsync member Jc Chasez at the private Hollywood bar above El Guapo Cantina on Saturday night, August 8 when they lost their tempers.

A source said Toby, who previously appeared in "CSI: Miami", chocked Ed before Ed's "Gossip Girl" co-star Chace Crawford pulled them apart. "Toby started choking Ed. Chace Crawford had to pull them apart," the source who saw the quarrel told Just Jared. However, it wasn't mentioned on what caused the fight while no confirmation has been released by both Ed and Toby regarding the news.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘12 Rounds’ Fails to Entertain For Even 12 Minutes

10 July 2009 3:11 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Renny Harlin’s “12 Rounds,” starring the WWE’s John Cena and now available on Blu-Ray and DVD, is a shockingly dull affair, an action film that tries to maintain a breakneck pace but forgets that movie rollercoasters are only fun with ups And downs instead of just a numbing series of stunt sequences.

Blu-Ray Rating: 1.0/5.0 The reasonably effective Cena (although he had more to do in “The Marine”) plays a New Orleans police officer named Danny Fisher, an average cop who happens to stop a brilliant thief whose girlfriend is accidentally killed in the process. A year later, the thief has escaped from prison with only one apparent goal - enacting his revenge on Danny.

12 Rounds was released on Blu-Ray on June 30th, 2009.

Chace Crawford Stars in Footloose Remake

20 May 2009 7:30 AM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

Chace Crawford ("Gossip Girl") has signed on to star in Paramount Pictures' remake of Kevin Bacon's 1984 film "Footloose." Director Kenny Ortega ("High School Musical" films) ran into a problem when Zac Efron decided against making another musical after "High School Musical 3" and was forced to recast. Although Crawford's involvement has long been rumored, his reps were only just now able to sign a deal. One of the sticking points in the negotiations was reaching a compromise on filming around Crawford's "Gossip Girl" production schedule. "Footloose" is set to begin shooting in March. Crawford previously starred in "The Covenant" and "The Haunting of Molly Hartley." He is currently taking part in Joel Schumacher's drama "Twelve." »

Chace Crawford Set to Star in 'Footloose' Remake

19 May 2009 3:48 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

"Gossip Girl" star Chace Crawford has been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter as the lead for the upcoming remake Footloose to be directed by Kenny Ortega. The film is a remake of the 1984 Kevin Bacon feature in which a family moves to a small midwestern town with strict moral beliefs, such as a ban on rock music and dancing. Crawford has been seen in such teen thrillers as The Covenant and The Haunting of Molly Hartley and is also set to star as the lead in Twelve for Joel Schumacher. Twelve follows a high school dropout-turned-drug dealer. His lucrative life sours when the dealer's cousin is brutally murdered on an East Harlem playground and his best friend is arrested for the crime. Footloose is currently set for a June 18, 2010 release from Paramount Pictures, which seems like it will be changing considering production isn't set to begin until March 2010. »

Joel Schumacher Finds Six for 'Twelve'

6 April 2009 3:11 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

We haven't seen anything from Joel Schumacher since the disappointing The Number 23 in 2007. His thriller Creek at Lionsgate staring "Prison Break" co-star Dominic Purcell has bounced all over the release calendar and is still without a firm date set, which means it may find its way to DVD before you know it. But that isn't stopping him from lining up his next project, a filmed adaptation of the Nick McDonell novel, Twelve. Variety reports Chace Crawford, Emma Roberts, Rory Culkin, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Ellen Barkin and Kiefer Sutherland have joined the cast with production set to begin on April 20 in New York. Jordan Melamed penned the script which is said to follow a high school dropout-turned-drug dealer. trailer break: ‘12 Rounds’

17 March 2009 8:00 AM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

How is this not Die Hard with a Vengeance, with the tests and the tricks and all? How shameless can they be about reminding you that the whole movie is stolen from another movie? Or maybe they prefer that you equate this in your head with Die Hard 3, the second best Die Hard, since 12 Rounds director Renny Harlin is responsible for the worst of the original Die Hards, Die Hard 2. I’m surprised the trailer ever makes that connection, but maybe it’s hoping you’ll get confused about which Die Hard was the good one, and which was the sucky one. Renny Harlin! All his most recent movies have gone straight to DVD, or should have. The Covenant? So bad it’s funny. And Driven is a classic of incoherent filmmaking that made me ache, I laughed so hard. So maybe 12 Rounds will be worth a few laughs after all. »

“Kings” Warps the Story of David and Jonathan

15 March 2009 11:36 PM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

This article contains major plot points from Sunday night's episode of Kings, as well as minor spoilers for the next two episodes.

The new NBC show Kings that premiered last night in a two-hour movie is supposedly a modern-day retelling of the Biblical story of David. Sure enough, the main character defeats “Goliath” – which, in the case of Kings, happens to be a tank.

And the character of Jack, the prince and “true” heir to the throne that David is destined for, is gay – just as his biblical counter-part, Jonathan, probably was.

But that’s just about the only gay element that Kings gets right.

In the Bible, Jonathan definitely loves David – and it’s literally love at first sight. “When David had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was bound to the soul of David, and Jonathan »
