Sex & Nudity

  • A terrorist is seen cutting his pubic hair. Another terrorist is shaving his chest hair, his chest is seen.
  • No sex or nudity.
  • We see a poster of women wearing low-cut tops that reveal cleavage. This is at an airport.

Violence & Gore

  • There is a scary hijacking sequence. A hijacker holds a flight attendant on the throat with a knife, A man behind another brutally kills a first class passenger with a knife and slides it to his carotid artery. Blood spurts and the man slides out from his seat onto the ground. The hijackers terrorize the passengers. Innocent passengers panic. People run out and the hijackers guard the second class threatening them with a bomb strapped around his waist and a knife.
  • Some blood is seen splat on the walls and seen on people's shirts. The wall images are hard to see though but more common on the hands. Blood is as well seen on few of the pilot's shirts and papers in the cockpit den. There are also some blood on the knives and hands of people.
  • A hijacker grabs an innocent wounded man and slams him into the ground. (He bleeds to death and blood is all over his shirt).
  • Alone, one hijacker pushes a food cart to the passengers holding them back using pepper spray, spraying two passengers. One man puts his hand on the food cart and the hijacker slaps his hand with a small knife. The passengers overpower him stretching his arm apart. The hijacker grabs a fire extinguisher and puffs it on the passengers attempting to hold them back.
  • The hijacker tilts the plane violently back and fourth, then we hear them collapse and struggle, people fall on the ground violently to push them back coming in the cockpit and tilts it again causing the people to go on top one another making it hard to go forward then raises the plane upwards to make it harder.
  • There is a sequence in the airplane bathroom where a man constructs a fake bomb using batteries and uses it to scare the passengers.
  • A flight attendant is held by a hijacker into the cockpit, she screams and struggles, with her hand grabbing the den. The man kills her with a box cutter (off-screen) and we hear her scream/gasp turn to a moan and then she is silent implying that she is dead.
  • Several men charge toward another man, they knock him down to the ground, they bludgeon him in the forehead with a fire extinguisher repeatedly, and we see blood on his shirt also splat on the walls and it is implied that he has been beaten to death. (The bloody impact is blurred out).
  • A man attacks another man shoving him into the ground, holds him around the head gouging his eyeballs and throat and twists, snapping his neck. The man struggles while the passengers take the knife away from him dies.
  • A hijacker holds a woman with a knife on her throat orders her to make the pilot open the door. She knocks the door the pilot opens and the two hijackers come in stabbing a pilot in the stomach (We hear groans) once both of them enter, one struggles with another pilot in the cockpit and one is stabbed to death and we hear a snap (presumably stabbed because we see his bloody shirt later) and dies.
  • Two dead bodies are dragged out of the cockpit of a plane and we see their blood-soaked shirts while two flight attendants in the first class see it.
  • The people get ahold in the cockpit and tries to overpower the hijackers. The stuff tumbles from the plane and the people scream and struggle with intense music playing making the scene more dramatic. The plane then plummets upside down with a shot of it traveling down into the open field resulting in the deaths of many on the planes and in the buildings that were hit. The crash after isn't shown but a black screen with the epilogue explains what happens.
  • We see the results of the first attack where United 175 crashes to the South Tower-- a distant shot of Lower Manhattan that shows smoke rising from one of the World Trade Center towers. We then see real footage from CNN showing various views of the building, the gaping hole in its side and the fires and smoke including the Pentagon crash.

Profanity

  • 7 uses of "fuck," 17 of "oh my God," 11 of "shit," 5 of "Jesus Christ," 5 of "hell," 4 of "Goddamn," 4 of "Jesus," 2 of "oh Jesus," 2 of "damn," 1 of "crap," 1 of "oh God" and 2 of "son of a bitch."

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A few people are shown drinking from cups (it's unclear whether it is alcohol or another liquid).

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The film is extremely very dramatic and heavily violent, for those still sensitive to the subject matter of 9/11, the entire film may be unsettling, disturbing and/or suspenseful. That's also true since we know what's ultimately going to happen and how other events will play out. All the violence is played in a realistic and graphic way.
  • A terrorist prepping a fake bomb (a battery, wires, some clay, etc.) in the airplane lavatory (he later displays it to the terrified passengers who think it's real).
  • The passengers on the plane are extreme danger. People are often in dangerous situations with four hijackers in a plane with forty people. This movie just wants to make you cry when you hear the last phone calls that the passengers make to their families. It is very sad and upsetting just watching it.
  • The entire film is incredibly intense and moderately disturbing, and increases in both greatly as it progresses.
  • Moments leading up to the point where the terrorists reveal their identities are extremely tense. Following this, all scenes on board the aircraft are among the most harrowing which one could witness on film and they are incredibly realistic.
  • The images of the 9/11 attacks are included also in a moderately disturbing manner.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • TV news reports show the Pentagon being struck by a plane and smoke billowing from the building.
  • A man shakes the plane violently but the passengers manage to enter the cockpit; however, as they attempt to gain control, the plane plummets into an upside down nosedive. The screen cuts to black as the plane crashes into field. The epilogue states that all Flight 93 passengers died in the crash.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • As one would expect, the movie ends right as the plane crashes, which is very saddening and realistic, though it does end with a tasteful tribute to those who died on 9/11.
  • We see that the main hijacker has taped a photo of the U.S. Capitol onto the plane's flight controls.
