missed opportunity

The makers of this direct-to-video failure had enough money available to afford decent location filming and decent action scene set-ups and executions. So why didn't they spend a little time on their dialog and direction? The story is a little hard to follow; investigating the death of a Mexican mobster's daughter, a hit-man discovers the corruptions Los Angeles has to offer. The story gets more confused through the poor performances of most of the actors, who miss cues and flub lines all over the place. They appear to be improvising, but are not very inventive at it, and so they just talk on and on, trying to reach a pause, which should be cued by the director, who, unfortunately, just lets them talk on and on. This improvisational approach appears to have been necessitated by the actors' failure to learn their lines before the shoot; that they all suffer from this indicates a director who doesn't care about the script. Well, but if the film-makers don't care, why should the audience.

There are a couple young actors with promise here, and a couple nice things happen with the camera-work and in the action set-pieces. But all this gets lost under the weight of wasted time, effort, money. A real missed opportunity by the director here.
