- Early 20th century Japan. Kiyoaki Matsugae, a young aristocrat falls in love with a girl he grew up with; Satoko Ayakura, who is to be married to a prince of the royal family.
- Satoko's Father has an affair with her maid, Tadeshina, and tells her that before Satoko gets married she is to have one night with a man she really loves, who thus plots revenge. Years later Kiyoaki falls in love with Satoko but after a fight he ceases all contact with her. Satoko gets engaged with a member of the royal family. Upon finding out about it, Kiyoaki extorts romantic meetings with Satoko from Tadeshina by threatening her to show love letters he received from Satoko to her parents and inform them that Tadeshina knew about it. Satoko gets pregnant, Tadeshina promises to help but instead fakes a suicide attempt in order to exact her revenge on the Ayakura family. Now aware of Satoko's and Kiyoaki's affair and Satoko'S pregnancy, the Ayakura and the Matsugae family decide to have Satoko abort her baby in secret. Thereupon Satoko decides to become a nun. She promises the head nun that she wouldn't see Kiyoaki ever again; Who pursues her after he reads about her whereabouts in the papers. Being hold up at the doors of the monastery where Satoko resides, he remains there until he gets seriously sick. On his way back home he succumbs to his illness, never having seen Satoko again.—Nyan Nyan
