The vignettes that open I Slay on Christmas, the new anthology film from producer Phil Herman, are almost hallucinogenic in their disassociated content and styles. A man runs through the woods only to find his adversary, a pine cone, floating in the air ahead of him as a voice intones his fate. Another man sits on a couch as the weatherman talks about unseasonably warm weather and how it’s helping a virus to spread. When we see him again, he’s bleeding from the nose and mouth and looks like a zombie.

Whenever you see a film that opens with the words “based on real events”, you can be sure of two things. One, you’re going to have a good time. Two, that this film will probably contain about as much factual material as I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter! contains butter.
But we don’t care!
We’re not just talking about biopics or historical films here, we’re talking about crime movies like Pain & Gain, Catch Me If You Can, romances like It Could Happen to You, and crime romances like I Love You Phillip Morris. And of course the horror genre absolutely loves a “Based On A True Story” title card and poster slogan. The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and all The Conjuring movies have one (making the last the first ever Based On A True Cinematic Universe).
So the question is,...

Scandinavian countries are statistically some of the safest places to live in the world, but their TV shows say the opposite. This European subregion’s penchant for dark and dreary crime stories first began in books before moving off the page, and since then, television has become the biggest source of what’s now referred to as “Scandi noir.” While these kinds of chilly thrillers caught on after the turn of the century, they appeared as early as the 1980s. One seminal example is Månguden (The Moon God), an ’88 TV-movie inspired by the real-life ‘84 “tent killings” at Lake Appojaure. Because the Swedes were so affected by this “ripped from the headlines” program, it aired only a few times before being indefinitely locked away for two decades.

“Surgeon Simulator CPR” is coming to Nintendo Switch, developer Bossa Studios announced on Wednesday.
As yet the studio is unable to provide a concrete release date, but promises there’ll be “an exact date for launch very shortly” before teasing that the Switch version will bring “a whole new meaning to the term ‘operating on the go'”.
The game has you play as would-be surgeon Nigel Burke, who uses a “less-than-conventional toolkit”—such as hammers, buzzsaws and laser pens—to perform a range of bloody and brilliant operations. This latest addition to the developer’s gory Surgeon Simulator series will include co-op gameplay courtesy of the Switch’s Joy-Con controllers and features all the original content from the A&E Edition, plus the Alien Autopsy mode, too.
“Surgeon Simulator” originally launched on PC back in 2013, and has since been released on PlayStation 4, Psvr, mobile devices, too, before this latest release on Nintendo Switch.

It may not be wholly revolutionary in both its approach and the material it explores, but Phoenix Forgotten was a lot more fun than a lot of folks might give it credit for, and it completely took me back to my high school days of being obsessed with The X-Files, science fiction, and the question of whether or not we are truly alone in this universe. Phoenix Forgotten does an admirable job of blending fact and fiction, and while there was one plot point that I felt was a little “too convenient,” overall, co-writer/director Justin Barber crafts an intriguing sci-fi-fueled mystery that hooked me from the very beginning. It may not make my list of favorite movies from this year, but Phoenix Forgotten was still an entertaining time nonetheless.

The world of Doctor Who has changed greatly in the space of just 10 years. The cast and crew have almost completely been replaced since 2005, including a number of new actors to play the errant Time Lord and his companions.
But what has happened to the class of '05? Where are Rose and Mickey now? What is the writer of 'Dalek' up to? And where can you see more work from the director of 'Rose'?
Here it is then, your guide to the main players of Doctor Who series one.
The Cast
After his three-month on-screen stint as the Doctor, Christopher Eccleston's career continued in much the same vein, taking in theatre, interesting television roles and the odd blockbuster.
Post-2005, the Northern actor went Stateside to take on the role of invisible man Claude in the Us series Heroes. From there, he popped up in a very amusing Doctor Who-esque cameo as Dr.

NBC are launching their own version of Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, with Neil Patrick Harris at the helm…
Here’s one from our ‘you couldn’t make this up’ department – Hollywood darling, worldwide household name and future Oscars host Neil Patrick Harris has taken inspiration for his new show from, um, Ant and Dec.
No he won’t be gallivanting around in the jungle, recreating a tragic paintball accident, starring in a new version of Alien Autopsy or attempting an ill-advised rap career, the How I Met Your Mother, A Million Ways To Die In The West and Gone Girl star will be remaking ITV's Saturday Night Takeaway for NBC.
The network has ordered ten filmed-in-front-of-a-live-audience episodes, featuring “comedy sketches, musical numbers, mini game shows, hidden camera pranks on celebrities and appearances by A-list stars.”
While it’s unclear if Nph will be encouraging viewers to win...

1. The moment when... Mel made a very appetising comparison with a savarin mould.
"This looks like a piles cushion, doesn't it?" Mm, we're suddenly not really up for any savarin, ta.
2. The moment when... Richard admitted he was going to "wing it".
Oh, Richard, don't say that! Richard explained that he wasn't sure whether to coat his cake with syrup or icing sugar and said he'd "wing it". Paul looked furious. (Richard then nervously said he would go with his heart and patted his stomach, which summed up the whole situation.

Sunday, July 20 marks the 45th anniversary of humans landing on the Moon. Nasa has all sorts of cool events planned, like replaying restored footage of Neil Armstrong's historic moonwalk right at the very moment he did it in 1969 (10:39 Edt if you must know). At the same time, SyFy will be into the second hour of a two-hour documentary special, Aliens on the Moon: The Truth Exposed. The special will look at evidence that suggests that the Moon was, or is, being used as a base or staging area for an alien race. We have the opening scene to share with you, and it is the exact amount of crazy you will have come to expect from the guy who produced Alien Autopsy. Moon conspiracy...

Britain's Got Talent and I'm a Celebrity hosts Ant & Dec have revealed that they are plotting a return to acting.
The duo, who started their careers as child stars in the Cbbc series Byker Grove, said that they were in constant talks about how they could make an acting comeback.
"We've talked about it. We'd love to do a sitcom. Or some kind of comedy drama," Ant told Digital Spy.
"There's no rush to do it, but there's still a desire."
Dec added: "We've talked about this for a while now. It's something that we definitely will do at some stage, but we're not sure when.
"We're so busy at the moment with the three shows, I'm a Celeb, Bgt and Takeaway. With our Saturday Night Takeaway tour coming up as well, there's been no way we could fit it in.

Congratulations to Ant & Dec, who celebrate 25 years in showbusiness together this year.
The dynamic (and diminutive) duo first hit our small screens in Byker Grove and have gone on to become a fixture of prime-time telly viewing with Bgt and their Saturday Night Takeaway.
We celebrate Ant & Dec's career successes - from paintballing to motorboating - below:
1. He can't see man!
"He can't see man!!" Dec points out the obvious as Ant lies blinded by paint after an illegal paintballing contest on Byker Grove.
2. Not stable...
Dec makes an earnest-looking stable boy in his sadly uncredited appearance in an adaptation of Catherine Cookson's The Cinder Path in '94.
3. Ant & Dec knighted
Ant & Dec dressed as knights at Knebworth House. Just because.
4. Let's Get Ready...
It's the Geordie answer to the Blues Brothers (sort of), as the duo perform as Pj & Duncan at the Royal Albert Hall back in 1996.
5. Trio of TV fun

Let's be honest, Ant McPartlin's forehead is massive. It always has been. Standing out like a giant reflective thumb on Byker Grove, it still maintains its prominence in latter-day hits such as Alien Autopsy, and it's safe to say that it has now become a staple of Saturday night television.
So then, it was with much delight that Digital Spy got to personally witness the moment that Keith Lemon tasked Ant with moving a bread roll across the floor using only his forehead.
The forehead rolling was just the tip of the iceberg in Ant & Dec-related entertainment that DS was privy to at the filming of the recent Takeaway Celebrity Juice special.
The presenting duo were joined by the usual team captains of Holly Willoughby and Fearne Cotton, along with special guests in the form of Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts and comedian Rob Beckett.

From faked lunar landings to invisible WWII warships, here are six conspiracy theories and the genre films they inspired...
"Fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face," Sterling Hayden's General Jack D Ripper coldly announces in Stanley Kubrick's breathtakingly funny satire, Dr Strangelove.
Ripper's conspiracy theory, that the commies are secretly trying to compromise our "precious bodily fluids", becomes his harebrained reason for unleashing a missile strike on the Ussr. And just as Ripper was inspired by this strange notion to trigger a nuclear apocalypse, so filmmakers have been inspired by conspiracy theories to make all kinds of science fiction and horror movies - some funny, some tense and absorbing, others terrifying.
Here, then, is a selection of six real-world conspiracy theories and the varied movies they inspired - and funnily enough, Stanley Kubrick...

Marking the 50th anniversary of JFK’s assassination continues to cough up good numbers for TV networks, though, as with that old Fox one-off reality hit Alien Autopsy, it’s unclear whether viewers flocked to the “JFK” — he being our very first made-by-tv president – or the “assassination.” PBS tastefully went with “John F. Kennedy’s legendary charisma” by way of explanation this morning, while discussing the fact its early JFK-assassination programming has cumed nearly 12 million viewers. Related: The Day JFK Was Shot: 50 Years Later, Hollywood Remembers Across Monday and Tuesday last week, JFK — a two-night, four-hour American Experience special that focused on the president’s life and achievements, reached 8.6 million viewers and averaged 2.7 million of them, PBS said. But a Wednesday night Nova broadcast, Cold Case JFK, in which viewers watched contemporary forensic techniques applied to the 50-year-old murder, performed at a whopping 40% over the 9 Pm season-to-date average. That program averaged about 2.6 million viewers.

How does the sequel to a hoax provoke over 3 million viewers to tune in? If you don’t know, you’re apparently one of the few who don’t. There's a reason why they call Mike Darnell the "dark prince" of reality TV. Darnell, who on Friday announced his exit as the president of alternative entertainment at Fox, is still best known for his in-your-face fare like Joe Millionaire, Alien Autopsy: Fact or Fiction, The Swan, When Animals Attack and Man vs. Beast.

Twenty Twelve star Jessica Hynes took a shot at Jack Whitehall and Jo Brand during her expletive-ridden acceptance speech at the Royal Television Society Programme Awards this week, telling the Fresh Meat comedian he has "a long f**king way to go".
The former Spaced actress caused a stir amongst the audience at London's Grosvenor House on Tuesday (March 19) after she won 'Best Comedy Performance' for playing PR woman Siobhan Sharpe in the BBC comedy.
As she picked up her "really weighty" award, Hynes began by praising fellow nominee Whitehall, before commenting: "I do like Jack, but you are young and you are male.
"No, you are quite funny. You got a long f**king way to go, a long way to go my friend. But yeah. Not bad. You're ok."
When Hynes then noticed the ceremony's host Brand approaching her, she declared: "They're determined to make me go away.

Ant & Dec have revealed that they would like to have a second attempt at breaking into Us TV.
The TV double act, who host Britain's Got Talent, I'm a Celebrity and Saturday Night Takeaway, also said that they didn't believe they got enough backing from the American network ABC when they last worked overseas.
Ant & Dec fronted ABC gameshow Wanna Bet? in 2008, but the show was cancelled after one season following very poor ratings.
Speaking to the Radio Times about working in the Us, Ant said: "We probably will try our luck in America again. It never really worked because the network didn't get behind us; it would need to be the right show.
"I think we've got one big push left in us and we'd have to make sure it's worth it.
"If it happens, it happens, but because everything is going so well over here, we're not dying to break America.

Anybody living in or around Montreal knows that La Belle Province’s metropolis is a fantastic place to be a film lover, especially for horror films. Now the obvious reason why this would be the case is the Fantasia International Film Festival, which had its 16th edition run this past July and August. Yet another, perhaps lesser know (but certainly growing) venue for Montreal horror film buffs to satisfy their cravings is the Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies, a unique experience if there ever was one.
The fine folks at Miskatonic have, in essence, set up a non-profit ‘school’ of sorts where an actual curriculum is set up for which films lovers and hopeful filmmakers can sign up for courses which last from September to April of the following year. Among the speakers are established writers, filmmakers and curators who provide bountiful insight, intelligent critical analysis and commentary on the...

Besides worrying about aliens popping out of the dark (and trying to pop your head off), one of the most memorable features of the original Xcom was the ability to research those sinister Greys and develop new weapons and tech. Well, you'll be able to cut right into the invaders and discover all of their secrets on the operating room table in October's Xcom: Enemy UnKnown when the Firaxis remake hits the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
I recently spoke with Firaxis Designer and Programmer Jacob Solomon about bringing alien dissection back and what it means for the new game's single player campaign. Plus, we have new screenshots of some of the alien invaders reimagined for the new game.
"It's one of those things that makes Xcom different," Solomon explains to me when I ask why gamers will be interested in going "Alien Autopsy" on Xcom's invaders. For Solomon, it's an...

Tim And Eric’S Billion Dollar Movie
Review by Andrew McArthur of The People’s Movies
Stars: Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim, Robert Loggia, Will Ferrell, Jeff Goldblum | Written and Directed by Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim
It seems that if a television comedy duo is successful enough that a movie is inevitable. Unfortunately, it is very rare that these movies are actually worth watching – just think Ant & Dec’s Alien Autopsy or David Mitchell and Robert Webb’s Magicians. Hoping to buck that trend are Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, the creators and stars of Adult Swim television series, Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! The duo have presented us with Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie, which will no doubt appeal to fans of the television series.
Tim and Eric are two filmmakers who are given a $1 billion dollar budget to make a film for the Schlaaang Corporation.

Mulder would have loved this one. Former Director of Investigations for the British UFO Research Association Philip Mantle recently released a book about the grainy black-and-white film footage that surfaced in 1995 claiming to be autopsy footage of the Roswell aliens taken in 1947.

After the alleged recovery of a UFO and its occupants near Roswell, New Mexico in 1947, did the U.S. military conduct an autopsy on the fallen creatures while cameras documented the eerie event? Attention British film-makers: the prime minister requires you to make more commercial movies. Here's how
British film-makers! Put down those clapperboards and pay attention because David Cameron, who happens to be a huge fan of your work – assuming you're making The King's Speech II – wants you to focus on films likely to be a "commercial success". Which presumably is the last thing you want.
Cynics say Cameron knows squit about British films. When that photo of SamCam and Michelle Obama having a coffee morning in the Downing Street flat was released, there didn't seem to be many British films in the Cameron DVD collection. Not even Carry On Screaming. Mainly Us TV boxsets. Oh, and he owns the film Armageddon on DVD. It's hard not to judge him for that.
To be fair, the photo was taken before The King's Speech had come out on DVD. Apparently he bought 26 copies of that.

If there was one thing that critics and comic book fans agreed on this summer it was that Green Lantern was one big let down. While there are those who may have enjoyed the experience, it’s clear that the movie did not make the splash that Iron Man, The Dark Knight had made in recent years or even Captain America or Thor made this summer. In the conversation about this year’s superhero movies, Green Lantern has all but disappeared.
This past weekend saw the premiere of Green Lantern: The Animated Series, a computer animated cartoon show that was surprisingly enjoyable and avoided a lot of the problems the film fell into. It leaves one to wonder, why does the cartoon succeed where the movie failed?

On tonight’s Peter Andre – The Next Chapter…..
Peter is back in work mode and meets his fans for the first time this year at his official calendar signing. Well over a thousand fans turn up to the event and for some of them hysteria sets in when meeting their idol.
Peter has also been asked to present the backstage TV footage for the Brit Awards, and after his initial nerves he does a great job at interviewing all the celebrities, including Alan Carr and Dermot O’Leary.
Peter and his brother Danny are moving forward in their plans to open up a line of coffee shops, and they visit a barista school to learn more about coffee beans and they also take the kids to a cupcake shop and have some messy fun decorating.
There’s more fun with Peter and his brothers when he takes them all paintballing.

One of the more controversial and critically maligned films of the past year was the scifi war pic Battle: Los Angeles (review). I'm going out on a limb and admit that I straight up loved the film and can't wait to blast my sound system with alien v human carnage when this hits on Blu-ray on June 14, 2011.
The final specs, art and bonus beef have hit web. Apparently the DVD will include 6 featurettes: "Behind the Battle," "Building the Aliens," "Acting with Aliens," "Shooting the Aliens," "Preparing for Battle" and "Creating L.A. in La".
Not enough for you? Then grab the Blu-ray for 14 More featurettes including "Directing the Battle," "Boot Camp," "The Freeway Battle," "Command Control," "Staff Sergeant Nantz," "Marine Behind the Scenes," "Aliens Ambush the Marines," "Battling Unknown Forces," "Technical Sergeant Santos," "Alien Autopsy," "Gas Station Explosion," "Visual FX on the Freeway," "Do You Believe in Aliens?" and Alien Command & Control". Whew!

The alien invaders in director Jonathan Liebesman's (The Killing Room) new movie, Battle: Los Angeles, were finally revealed last week when a viral website called UnidentifiedEnemy went live. The viral site, which is accessible by entering a code on official Battle: Los Angeles website, had cool information about the aliens' culture and weapons and appeared to reveal that the creatures are nesting in the sewers beneath L.A., but the photos of the aliens themselves were somewhat dark and murky.
Now, the aliens can be viewed in much better (and brighter) detail, thanks to the magazine Famous Monsters of Filmland (via io9), which ran a "making of the monster" feature on Battle: Los Angeles in issue #254. The life-size aliens are shown in various stages of production, and there's even one that looks like it was dissected, a la Alien Autopsy.

Alien Autopsy tells the true story of Ray Santilli and Gary Shoefield, two British lads who came into possession of proof of the most startling discovery in human history. We are not alone. Or are we? This is a question that cave dwellers and today's scientists using the most bleeding edge technology have been trying to answer.
Written by William Davies and directed by Jonny Campbell, this film doesn't try to answer that question. Instead, it is a light-hearted comedy about how Ray and Gary came upon the film which supposedly contained images of an actual Alien Autopsy and who eventually became famous for perpetrating one of the largest, world-spanning and profitable hoaxes ever.
In 1995 Ray and Gary unleashed their video on the world having sold the rights to over 30 countries worldwide.

In honor of the release of a film about the 1995 controversy surrounding an infamous bit of footage known as Alien Autopsy called (what else?) Alien Autopsy, we had the opportunity to speak with the real men behind the mania -- Ray Santilli and Gary Shoefield. Time to separate fact from fiction.
Alien Autopsy is available now from Warner Premiere. Order your copy below.
About the Film:
The autopsy allegedly occurred in 1947 after the Army issued a press release that a crashed "flying disc" had been recovered. Soon after the army reported debris from a classified radar tracking balloon was recovered, and the speculation began.
The case was eventually forgotten but resurfaced in the late 1970s when physicist Stanton T. Friedman interviewed Major Jesse Marcel, who was involved with the original recovery and said he thought the military covered up the incident.
Then in 1995 Santilli, a London-based video producer, promoted a...

To get even one show to premiere in any given season that proves an instant favorite is a sad rarity. That there were two shows last season which swept me away is unprecedented, and should be seen as a sign of something. What, I have no idea. One of those shows is Community (Sony, Not Rated, DVD-$39.95 Srp), which has introduced a level of meta-surrealism and...

It's a big release day for TV box sets, and not a heck of a lot else. The only major movie hitting DVD and Blu-ray this week is Ridley Scott's Robin Hood, and although I wasn't particularly taken with the film, I am slightly curious about the Unrated Director's Cut. Also out this week is the Academy Award-winning Spanish thriller The Secret in their Eyes, Harmony Korine's Trash Humpers and Neil Jordan's Ondine starring Colin Farrell, plus two direct-to-dvd releases: the remake of The Experiment starring Adrien Brody and Stomp the Yard 2: Homecoming. Get your sitcom fix with new seasons of 30 Rock, Community, Modern Family, and How I Met Your Mother, or get your T&A fix with Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Do you see anything worth picking up this week? Robin Hood: Director's Cut [1] (+ Blu-ray [2]) The Secret in their Eyes [3] (+ Blu-ray [4]) The Experiment [5] (+ Blu-ray [6]) Stomp the Yard: Homecoming...

Modern Family: Season 1
Who better to document the 21st-century American family than a Dutch film crew capturing the clan's antics for a reality show in the Netherlands? That's the conceit of this Emmy-winning mockumentary comedy series created by Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan. Ed O'Neill, Julie Bowen, Sofia Vergara and Ty Burrell star as members of the multinational, multisexual and exceedingly complicated Pritchett-Delgado-Dunphy tribe.
Cast: Julie Bowen, Sofía Vergara
Director: Jason Winer
Love this show! It's hilarious!
Community: Season 1
When times get tough, the tough go back to college. This is what lawyer Jeff Winger decides to do when his degree is suddenly revoked. Now a Greendale Community College student,...
