We’ve had a marvellous run of Taskmaster series lately, so when a new line-up announcement is on the horizon, it’s easy to wonder whether the winning streak will continue or if we’re due a dud.
Never fear – Alex Horne and co. have delivered once again, although the series 17 Taskmaster line-up might not be quite what you’re expecting. Instead of the now-traditional Taskmaster family line-up, this time they’ve gone for a veteran from outside the world of stand-up comedy, plus four rising stars with slightly less mainstream recognition than normal. As ever with this show though, anybody you’re not familiar with at the start, you’ll almost certainly love by the end of the series.
The Taskmaster series 17 line-up is: Steve Pemberton, Sophie Willan, Nick Mohammed, John Robins and Joanne McNally! And here they are appearing in the very first trailer for the new run:...

In the peaceful Greek city of Yolcos, Pattie (Sonja Ball) is a mouse who dreams of becoming a hero like Jason (of And The Argonauts fame). Her opportunity comes when a statue is unveiled of Zeus (Josh Widdicombe), leaving Poseidon (Rob Beckett) in a jealous rage. He gives the citizens of Yolcos seven days to build a statue in his honour that is as beautiful as Zeus’ statue, or their home will be destroyed.
While she is inspired by the fantastical tales she read, Pattie is disheartened at how nobody believes in her dreams of heroism. This includes Sam (Mark Camacho), her adopted father that is a vegetarian cat who resorts to backstabbing duplicity to prevent Pattie from leaving. Intent on proving her naysayers wrong, the mouse...

Paul McCartney has many pre-show rituals he does before performing at his concerts. The former Beatle has been touring for over 60 years, so he knows what to do to prepare himself. One of his habits includes watching TV to relax, and Paul McCartney says he loves to watch this American game show.
Paul McCartney loves to watch ‘Family Feud’ before starting his concerts
Paul McCartney isn’t too much of a TV connoisseur. He’s often too busy with his music or other projects that occupy his time. He also loves exploring nature and lounging around his farm. However, a few shows still occupy his time, especially if he’s channel surfing.
In an interview with The Adam Buxton Podcast, McCartney said he appreciates shows like Storage Hunters and American Pickers but also enjoys comedy.

Every year, there comes a point when the UK comedy industry suddenly becomes abuzz with whispers. Word gets about that the producers of Mock the Week are in town. They’re scouting out stand-up shows for new talent – and you could be next. “Everyone’s going, ‘You know they’re looking’,” comedian Maisie Adam tells me. “You suddenly ended up going to every gig feeling like you’re in those early episodes of X Factor, queuing up outside.”
When it was announced in August that the BBC was canning Mock the Week after 17 years, in order to “create room for new shows”, online discourse exploded. People questioned what the show ending in its current format (the team are optimistic it’ll find a home elsewhere) meant for the BBC, for the panel show format and for satire as a whole. Last month, Mock The Week was cancelled after 17 years on air. The satirical comedy was only one of a flurry of modern panel shows featuring teams of comedians, spawning from the format used in Have I Got News For You that emerged during the nineties and noughties. Taking cues from long-running Hignfy which hit TV screens in 1990, popular series such as Never Mind the Buzzcocks and the anarchic, absurd Shooting Stars were followed by the likes of Qi, 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Would I Lie To You?, Celebrity Juice and, of course, Mock The Week. But with ratings plummeting and cancellations abounding, is it high time the genre called it a day?

These shows were initially a great way to finish off your evening after a long hard day at school or work, just like a late night chat show helps to wind our American friends down after the watershed.

Netflix has released a new trailer for the Katherine Ryan comedy “The Duchess.”
Created by and starring Ryan, the series follows the “powerful and problematic choices of a fashionably disruptive single mom living in London,” according to Netflix’s description of the series. “Her daughter, Olive, is her greatest love so she debates a second child with her greatest enemy — Olive’s dad. Ryan is an executive producer on the series alongside Dave Becky and Josh Lieberman of 3Arts, as well as Murray Ferguson, Petra Fried and Ed Macdonald for Clerkenwell Films.
A U.K.-based comedian and TV personality, Ryan is known for appearing on panel shows like “8 Out of 10 Cats” and “Mock the Week.” She has previously released two Netflix stand-up specials, “Katherine Ryan: In Trouble” in 2017 and “Katherine Ryan: Glitter Room” last year.

Blockbusters, based on the classic NBC gameshow, is heading back to the UK after Comedy Central picked up another local reboot.
The UK arm of the Viacom-owned broadcaster has ordered two seasons of the cult quiz from Fremantle’s Thames.
The show, which was a student classic when it aired on ITV between 1983 and 1993, was originally produced by Mark Goodson-Bill Todman Productions for NBC, which aired it between 1980 and 1982 with a short-lived remake in 1987. It was created by Steve Ryan.
Mock The Week host Dara O’Briain is fronting the latest reboot, which will run for 20 episodes of 30 minutes. Players will attempt to cross a hexagonal board by answering quiz questions correlating to a letter, for a chance to win an “experiential” prize. The series is already in pre-production and will include two celebrity specials. It will debut on Comedy Central UK in 2019.

Dara O'Briain hosts a new videogaming TV show for Dave that turns out to be huge fun...
When Videogame Nation came to an end in June it left the UK games-based TV landscape barren yet again.
But not for long, as this week saw the debut of the latest attempt to combine gaming and good telly in the shape of Go 8 Bit. Clearly hoping to do with gaming what Never Mind The Buzzcocks did with music, channel Dave appear to have largely succeeded. The inaugural episode was a decent mix of laughs and controller bashing confrontation.
Derived from team captains Sam Pamphilon and Steve McNeil’s successful live comedy show that began life at the Edinburgh fringe in 2013, Go 8 Bit pairs each with a different celebrity guest each week to take part in a series of gaming challenges. The whole thing is overseen by the...

Jason Manford has backed the BBC's decision to ban all-male panel shows.
The comedian described the move as "brilliant", but questioned the broadcaster's decision to make the ruling public knowledge.
He told the Radio Times: "I just don't think they should have said it out loud. Why say it? Just do it.
"By saying it, you're undermining the female on the panel show because now she's thinking, 'Am I here because I'm funny or because they needed one?'"
The BBC's Director of Television, Danny Cohen, announced the change in February 2014, prompting criticism from Mock the Week host Dara Ó Briain.
Manford added: "Me and my brother have got some comedy clubs and we always make sure there's a female either on the bill or a female Mc, because it just makes blokes act differently.
"When I see a female act who's totally nailing it, I think, 'Well, she's worked...
