I did, and a good time was had by all.

First off, let me say that this movie is garbage. It just is. Now that that's out of the way, it DOES have some good points, but for the most part, it's garbage.

The main garbage point is the story. It had amazing potential- but was extremely poorly executed. Did any of you ever see that episode of the Aladdin cartoon where they got caught up in this weird magical time loop? If so, you've seen how GOOD this movie's plot could have been. If not, you've only seen how BAD this movie's plot could have been.

This movie is about some people who stumble upon a camp caught in a 24-hour time loop in which people get killed, every day, by an unseen killer (or killers). This is a great plot- except THE KILLERS AND SOME OF THE VICTIMS KNOW ABOUT THE LOOP. The ONLY way that this plot would have been even remotely sensical is if everyone involved has no knowledge of it whatsoever. If you committed a bunch of murders, and then got killed yourself, and then found out that your exploits caused you and those around you to loop over and over repeatedly, would you keep doing it? And, if so, would you keep falling for the same traps over and over? The killers, however, don't seem to care. They're perfectly content with killing the same people, every day, over and over, and then getting killed themselves (without, you know, stopping their own deaths), without any regard for what's going on.

The audio is terrible, the acting is terrible, the camera-work is terrible, and the story is absolutely terrible. The blatant homo-eroticism is the only thing driving this movie.

The synopsis for Camp Daze sounded like a lot of fun: four vacationing teenagers somehow end up in a supernatural summer camp that is trapped in time (circa 1981), where they attempt to help the not-so-happy holiday-makers who are forced to endlessly re-live the night they were slaughtered by a mysterious maniac.

And so I eagerly settled down to watch the film, hoping for a brainless slasher flick, with a time travel twist, shot in an 80s style, featuring summer camp fun and games, a touch of nudity, a psycho killer in the woods, and plenty of gore. Sure enough, Camp Daze delivered all of these things—although it wasn't EXACTLY what I had been expecting.

The summer camp activities included the usual sporting events, a campfire sing-song, a spot of amateur dramatics, and frolicking by the lake, as well as the obligatory bit of 'not-on-the-camp-schedule' slap-and-tickle and pot smoking. But why did so many of these moments feature the young men in very short shorts and stripped to the waist?

The one sex scene at least had a hot babe getting it one with her beau (before being killed, of course). But why was the camera focusing on the bloke's abs rather than the girls chest (which for some reason remained covered)?

Eventually, the penny dropped: this was a slasher film made with a particular audience in mind and I wasn't going to see any naked screaming girls running for their lives, or taking unnecessary showers. The clues had been there from the start: the film was produced by Screamkings (a play on the term 'scream queen') and even the title had the word 'camp' in it (doh! I must get my gaydar fixed).

Accepting the fact that this film was likely to feature even more buff bare-chested boys than a Victor Salva movie, I watched the rest of this homo-erotic horror hoping that it would at least deliver in the gore department.

Fat chance! Whilst there is a lot of enthusiastic killing (including some silly, but inventive demises which earn the film a higher rating from me than it probably really deserves), they aren't nearly as convincing as they are funny. The actors ham up their death scenes something rotten, fake blood is liberally splashed about and there are a few rather hokey effects that could never be described as 'special'.

In fact, with dreadful acting all round, an awful script, annoying characters (the black girl who was swearing as if she was in a Tarantino film was especially grating), and a running time of 110 minutes (sheesh!), this film has very little to recommend it. If pushed to say something really positive about it, I will admit that the music is good, but seeing as the score has apparently been ripped off from several other movies, this doesn't really mean that much.

this movie should just be placed in comedy actually I watched this movie because i like horror films this was far from it most of the actors did a really really REALLY bad job in the film luckily there were a couple good ones this movie would've been a great film if it had more fighting scenes rather than boom your dead and a lot less cussing and well less blood oh and no close ups of the weapons the used that was one of the worst things about this movie is all of the weapon close ups i say overall the commercial for this movie was better than the actual thing!!!!!!!!! if you want to laugh at extremely bad acting and cheesy killing watch this if you like horror Don't EVER SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!

I'm not very good at writing reviews, but the sheer awfulness of this movie compels me to do so.

Let me state for posterity that this could have been a great movie if it had been done right.

OK.

They decided , first of all, that a scene showing a quick motion of a hand with an arrow or circular saw blade (yes, they actually use that as a weapon), followed by a scene of someone clutching their throat or chest, or gushing up a fountain of blood from the mouth(even if not hit in vitals that make you bleed from the mouth), was a perfectly acceptable way to show a murder. Or being choked, and not struggling very hard to get free or anything. Seriously, I've seen school projects with about as much realism. The murders also get repetitive. If you were to play a drinking game, and drink a shot every time two people got stabbed with same pike, or pitchfork, or arrow, or whatever, you would be f-ed up by the end of the movie, my friend.

Hey, you know that Ted Nugent reality show on VH1? Where it starts out with that arrow going through his property and it looks like it's attached to the camera while it's 'flying'? They actually used that effect when one of the campers was killed by an arrow.

Also, they don't go in depth in the story at all. Normally, I don't mind this and give most movies the benefit of the doubt, but when the most you get out of this for a plot is "So, they killed everyone, and now there is this magical curse on the camp or something, so they have to kill everyone everyday, and they have to kill 4 non-campers to escape it, but they don't want to leave the camp, but they want to kill the non-campers anyway?", you know it is bad.

The camera, sound, and lighting effects noticed in the other reviews are absolutely right, meaning all the technical stuff is horrible. I couldn't make out half of the things they say, even after rewinding it.

There was way to much stuff that was complete filler. The stuff mentioned already in other reviews like the drama counselor killing everyone, the psychic visions, the unnecessary glove thing, it was all not needed.

The dialog was not only corny, but unnecessary, repetitive, boring, and inane.

I believe that the girl that survived should have been the first killed. I would have given the movie a three or something then, because I got so annoyed by her constant 'bad-girl-thang' chatter that even I wanted to kill her by the end of the movie.

The ending was also the worst I have ever seen. She's a novelist now, for no reason whatsoever other than (I guess) to create a suspenseful ending and, oh yeah, the murderers find her somehow. They then decide to warn her that they will be at her book signing tomorrow, while a photo of them, all gangsta like with beanies and stuff, appears. Wooooooooo, creepy!! Also, you have to wonder how she explained that all of her friends were dead when she got home.

There's just way to much sheer bad to write a legible review and get all of the details in, so...

If none of this convinces you not to rent this movie for reasons other than a good laugh, just think about this: A guy gets killed by ONE hand choking him to death from behind a tree. ONE HAND. He apparently forgot that he had arms and legs and stuff with which to fight back.

Seriously, if you want to see a bad horror movie, go watch Frankenfish because it at least had some redeeming qualities. This offers absolutely nothing.

I say this in all seriousness when I state that this is the absolute, hands-down, worst movie I have ever seen.

Absolutely Miserable

I would rather watch fat render then ever see this movie again. The plot seems like Back to the future meets Friday the thirteenth. The audio quality is awful and the is far to many close ups of the actors, the reasoning for this is (in my opinion) the production company did not have and microphone booms to hold above the actors while they conversed and there for had to shoot straight on with their sweet camcorder close ups. You can actually hear the audio pieced together. This movie is not only and insult to your eyes but also your ears. Things i would recommend over this movie would be: 1. getting kicked in the balls over and over again for the full 93 minutes, 2. Having all you finger and toe nails removed, 3. And simply just not watching this movie. Do everyone a favor, if you rent or own this movie (God i hope you don't own this movie)take a key and scratch the disk until it bleeds. The gore effects looked like something a 9 year old could come up with in the back yard. Please don't watch this movie

Produced cheaply by people who "know" slasher fans are stupid

Too many reviews on the IMDb claim the film (more often now video) they just saw is the worst film ever made. If there is any justice left this video ( and not for one moment will you not believe it is anything other than a shot on video) will garner new worst film ever reviews. But hey the first people to write reviews of it loved it. Well fortunately most films get watched by more people than made them,though the only reason to sit through this is if you helped make it.

There's almost no point to talking about what's bad about it. Everything is.

But what do slasher fans expect? Let's run it down.

Nudity===no none there other than some shirtless men in tight short shorts--wonder what that's all about?

Gore? Mostly the dribble candy looking blood over an actors skin. Oh, one early kill has the dead woman blinking. More stranglings than slashings and the killer usually arrows instead of a knife. It's pretty much all of the, "Oh I'm pretending I'm being killed" variety. Like you'd see from a bunch of nine-year-olds playing Cowboys and Indians in their back yard with some food coloring for blood.

Music? Well the only decent thing in the movie is the music score, that claims and might actually have some real instruments used. Unfortunately much of the music is god awful pseudo 80's songs that are bad and don't sound like 80's either.

Acting? Well you don't expect acting in a slasher film but I mean really.

The 80's? Well that era for slasher films this one tries for, but the wardrobe isn't consistent, the valley girl is really a few years too early to be in the film and has too many ear rings. The shot on video nature makes it all look cheaper than even the cheapest slasher films of that era. There's no suspense or nastiness here, the set ups for the kills are pretty weak and or silly.

Comedy? Well no you don't expect that in a slasher film, but don't worry unless you think bad actors reciting lines you'll recognize from better movies is funny, you won't have comedy getting in the way of the film. The black chick character says she just ate so much her t**t is going to explode. I guess that counts for something?

Unique killer gimmick? Do sort of loose fitting yellow work gloves terrify you? Well they won't after you see this movie so don't be afraid to keep your eyes open. Even if you are afraid of sort of loose fitting yellow work gloves watching this movie will cure you.

Something like taking their cheapo video camera and badly recorded sound away from these people so they never make another "movie" again.

The central idea (sort of a time travel thing) is really badly done so they can't take credit for that.

All kidding aside this is trash made by people who don't know how to make a movie and don't care about the movie they made. Annoying video hissing sound pops in and out with the camera edits, just like it does in your own home movies. Wow, that's great. Greenish video skin tones that don't match the shots around them, just like it does in your own home movies. Wow, how do they do that? Brightly illuminated by bright white light night scenes, just like when you take your light on top of your video camera and turn it on. Wow, why watch these people do this when you can already make a movie will all the excitement and skill that these people are vomiting up all over you. Talent aside, these are basic basic technical requirements that no one who made or released this film gave a damn about. Why, because they think slash fans are too stupid to care.

Hire the composer of the score, send the rest of the people involved in this film onto the Titanic with third class tickets and glory in the thought of them freezing painfully to death on a moonless night long long ago, and try to forget you ever saw this thing. Oh and while you imagine them freezing to death imagine the juries at the film festivals that this film touts on its box being set on fire as their eyes are eaten out by fire ants.

And please note I never said it was the worst film I'd ever seen, but I hope other reviews do. Not that you should believe them usually, because not every low budget shot on video film is this bad.

What a piece of garbage this 'movie' is...what makes it worse is that it actually tries to pass itself off as an actual 'movie'...this is not a movie...this is a pathetically made camcorder homage to the movie Friday the 13th.....it's so bad that i was actually embarrassed to be watching it...thank god i was alone...it has millions of deaths...yet nearly each one is just the actor holding an arrow into themselves...or fake syrup type blood that drips just like syrup does....it's an absolute insult that this camcorder rubbish sits alongside actual movies in the DVD store....the 'actors' are horrendously bad....and i mean BAD.....doubt anyone of them will ever reach near z-list status....plus, lots of very bad male actors who rely on taking their tops off to elevate their screen presence....which fails miserably.....it's hard to believe that in this century trash like this is put before us and they expect us to enjoy it, or even respect it as a movie.....NEVER. This truly is a useless piece of camcorder crap that deserves to be forgotten before more people are fooled into watching it....you have been warned!!!!

OK, Me and some friends decided to get some movies one night. I went off to get a movie and let them decide on what to get. When they showed me the movie and I read the back, I knew we should have put it down and walked away. It was a great idea for a movie, but if it was done badly, it would have been terrible. The reason I told this fun little story was because the drive to the Hollywood Movies down the road was scarier than this movie. Let me elaborate.

From the beginning to end this movie reeks of its "C" rate quality. Poor camera angles, bad acting, and the way-too-often use of the close-up shot make it hard to watch to begin with. Then, the killings make it even harder to watch, at least without laughing. In one instance, A couple is "smoking" and begin to make out. The man hears a noise and looks to see what is was. While he turns you hear a very vivid "wosh" of an arrow. He turns back and begins to make out with his very dead girlfriend while she is covered in blood and has an arrow in her neck. It takes him about 40-50 seconds to figure out that she is indeed dead. Then, instead of yelling, he runs away from the camp, into the middle of the woods, then yells. I understand its a movie, but the amount of unbelievability of it was just too much.

The only reason I don't give this movie a 1 is because I found it to be funny as hell, but for all the wrong reasons. Film teachers should use this move to describe all the things not to do when making a movie.

Barely watchable

I love camp movies. I love horror movies. I love time-travel movies. I love 80s movies. In a certain way, I love low-budget movies. But I don't love this movie. In fact, I had a hard time sitting through it. First, it looks like it's shot on video. But the coloring is a little too vibrant for that, so it's probably shot digitally. There are occasionally shots that use some very cheap effects, usually just slowing down a shot slightly, and creating a choppy looking blur. Second, the script is packed with writing that is alternately awkward and annoying. Characters are drawn in a way that makes us unable to care about their predicament. In fact, because of how bothersome the characters are, we feel mildly cheated by the ending. Third, the plot is a clever enough idea. But the execution is so poorly handled that the viewer has an internal tension. In between passages of being bored and annoyed with the acting and the script, I would recognize that there was actually a decent idea buried under all of the nonsense that the movie uses.

There's a long sequence about halfway through the movie, which only serves to provide some more on-screen death and gore. That's fine, except that the sequence doesn't seem to be tied into the plot at all. In fact, it seems to be pulling the plot in a direction that never happens.

There are some homosexual undertones to the movie. And that would be fine, except that they never resolve. They exist for the sake of existing. To make this clear - if they had included heterosexual romantic undertones to the movie at all, and never created a payoff for that, I'd be bothered by that just as much. In the context of this movie, I have a suspicion that these were included since they thought they would be funny.

The plot twists a bit in the second half, and it turns into a different type of movie. This doesn't help it. I made me feel a bit more helpless to stand against the tide of nonsense that the movie pushes. The plot developments suggest obvious questions, but those problems are ignored.

Substantial spoiler-

If they've lived through this loop for years upon years, wouldn't the killers get bored? They all seem to be aware, but it seems difficult to maintain the motivation. And the victims are aware that they'll be killed, but they never seem to learn to get out of it. If they had no knowledge of the loop, it might make sense.

There are attempts at humor sprinkled through the movie, but none of the jokes are worth the breath used to speak them. They drag the movie down, and make watching this a chore.

I can't watch this movie again. And I'd suggest you don't either.

I've given this movie two stars because I could understand what most of the shots were. The sound was poorly mixed, but intelligible. And there was some reasonably classy music.

Avoid it.

Bloody awful, I say that.

My first impression after watching the first few minutes after the prelude was..

"Dude, this movie must be for all those people who talk like this.. or people who hate people who talk like this, cause I already know at least three of em' are gonna die." Was I right or was I right? Although I was having a few hopes that they'd all just die.

Anyway, it was an easily commentable film, and an easily predicable film.. or home movie. As others have said, and I agree.. Drinking game.

There were some pretty god awful plot points in this film as well, plus, the whole.. Rehersial was pointless. I suppose the point of this random gore-fest was just for the sake of adding random gorefests? Anyway, following this, the whole killing starts and we start the time warp, in which when I realized they went back in time I'm laughing and singing "time warp" from rocky horror...

Another small problem. What's the motive? Are they just all psychotic, the two councilors that start all the killing and persuade the other two into doing it with them...

There wasn't much explanation...

Lots of blood, lots of laughs

I attended the Boston screening of Camp Daze. I have recently joined the dark side with other horror genre fans over the past few years. This movie not only surpassed my expectations in terms of gore and blood, it adds humor (with shocking dialogue) to a clever and entertaining story. Jen's delivery of vulgar comments and the exaggerated 80's apparel (especially Ivan's short shorts and belly shirt) will make your mouths drop in shock and laughter. Despite its modern feel, Camp Daze pays its dues to 80s slasher film with its own unique twists and deaths. Even the soundtrack suits the movie's 80s feel of suspense.

One of the better direct to video horror films

In watching camp daze aka: camp slaughter, I noticed the usual pitfalls of renting a direct to video horror flick. poor video quality, bad sound and corny acting by some of the actors. However In some twisted way it almost helps out this film. The story is supposed to be an homage to slasher films of the 80's. Crappy camera work and cheesy acting ran rampant in those films so even tho I'm sure its not what the director was intending The crappy film quality sets the mood of a vintage horror film even more. I'll admit the the storyline and action are a bit hodge-podge and certain parts don't seem to flow well but all in all I enjoyed this stupid little film. The 80's outfits and old camp cabins really worked well in my opinion and certain death scenes are pretty cool. This movie wont scare anyone over the age of 4 but than again If your watching direct to video horror flicks your probably not scared of horror films anymore and are just a fan of scary movies. However One of the neatest things about this movie are the extras. Some of the behind the scenes extras are hilarious. So at any rate If you want to see one of the more enjoyable direct to video horror films than I'd say rent it. But If you actually want a movie with an involving storyline and real scares stay away. For fans who appreciate 80's slashers only.

Half Inspired.. Half Crap.

I had to give this movie 4 out of 10 because its not total crap as many are saying. There are some very good things here, but unfortunately its lost under a lot of %$#@! It has a promising start that is a homage to the original 'Friday the 13th'. Two lovers wander into the woods for some love. The acting and shooting here is decent. Hurt by cheesy scripting, the performers at least seem to be trying. Not really scary, but old school horror fans will smile at this bit. However, from here it is all downhill.

As we get into the film, it gets marred with a convoluted plot about time travel, which probably sounded good on paper, but doesn't come off well on screen. The acting takes a nose dive, as does the scripting. In fact most of the leads in this movie are terrible actors that look like gay porn stars. The supporting stars seem to be much better overall.The crazy fat girl seems to have the most talent of the bunch. The special effects are pretty bad and the score is awful.

You can see hints of a good film in here, and its really a shame. I know horror doesn't have to have Al Pacino, but if they casted for talent before model 'stud' looks and did another draft on the script they may have had something here.

Not enough good points to make up for the bad.

I will say that unlike most comments, I liked the look of this movie. The time warp thing should have been used more. After it was introduced, they never really done anything else with it.The gore was pretty lame. Every kill was almost the same. Maybe a little cherry pie filling coming out of the mouth. The score was pretty nice. The composer did a great job with the 80's themed music and the use of strings, which really captured the sound of the 80's slasher. I agree with the other comments with the over use of close ups. It's like they had a camera mounted Mic and were trying to stay in close enough range for the best audio. I think these filmmakers have some talent, I think they just need to concentrate more on good audio, and developing a solid plot.

terrible, just plain terrible

a friend rented this one looking for a cheesy horror movie, but soon found out it was a worthless piece of s*#t that should never have been conceptualized, nor filmed and sold. This schmorgasbord of terrible acting, terrible lines, terrible effects, terrible directing, and especially the terrible cinematography are a very good reminder that money can put out any lame waste of film. Even after all of that, you are disappointed by the lack of creativity that the writer/director had when he ripped off both "Groundhog Day" and "Friday the 13th" set in the 80s. The only worth that this DVD has is either being a coaster or a punchline while drinking with some friends.

***Also, it helps to mention that SOMEHOW there are 37 people who voted it as a PERFECT 10!! Seems to me that the actors and director all voted it as a 10 to throw people off the stench of their proverbial dirty diaper.*** DO NOT WASTE YOUR LIFE WATCHING THIS. I FEEL ROBBED OF MY TIME.

Best Movie Ever

No, but seriously, this was one of those movies that was so bad that I loved it. The horrible script, the bad acting, the camera work of five year olds, and a music score that was actually good, all combined to form a movie that was so bad that it was actually good. It's one of those horror movies that actual belongs in the comedy section.

Then there was the blood. All of the death scenes, and fight scenes, etc. were done so badly that you could not help but laugh. Not to mention execution of most of the lines. I mean, seriously, to fully understand the hilarity of this movie, you need to go see it.

I highly recommend it.

Not all Bad

This was definitely a low budget flick and it showed. There was definite problems with the audio track and in a special feature about the special effects you could see how simplistic the effects actually were. I liked the plot but the script and the acting could have been better. some of the campers were kinda cheesy and there was more profanity than I care for. I would like to point out one mistake they made with one time related reference. The visitors to the camp kept referring to Jason from Friday the 13th but the campers didn't know who Jason was. They should have, Though. Friday the 13th came out in 1980 and the campers were stuck in August 1981. Despite how my comments may sound I enjoyed the film and its problems were nothing that a larger budget wouldn't of fixed.

Makes me want to go to camp!

Just received the special edition of CAMP DAZE with the bonus disc in the mail and IT IS AWESOME! Some great behind the scenes footage.

The movie itself is fun, exciting and (need I mention) bloody. I first learned about it on FANGORIA.com and have been waiting for it to come out. I'll be attending the NY screening in October, but couldn't wait that long to see it. I agree with some of the postings that's a bit long, it still keeps you entertained. I read one that said it was too much like Friday the 13th, but I disagree. I actually watched Friday part 1 on the IFC channel last night and CAMP DAZE is completely different. Some of the deaths are similar to Friday's but according to the director, they wanted to pay homage to it. CD's story was far more clever. It felt like a cross between The Burning and Scream. I laughed quite a few times and even found myself getting antsy (which I don't normally do when I'm watching a horror movie). Especially the scene with Jon Flemming in the shower. That was a bloody clever scene.

This is the type of film that pays homage to the early 80's horror flicks in theme only. As for the rest of the film as a whole, it clearly stands on its own two blood soaked feet. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to see a fun, gory, bloody, creepy, who-done-it horror film.

Camp Daze gets 2 bloody, severed thumbs up! Cheers. :-)

Some of you don't know what your talking about....

OK, so I'm bias. I had the opportunity to work on this film and mostly I can say it was a great deal of fun and a lot of long days. I realize it was not a greatly made movie, but I'd like to see someone do better on such a low budget with such a tight shooting schedule. This movie was shot in Maine over the course of about a week and a half. Every person on crew got about 4-6 hours of sleep due to the extended shooting schedule. Of the equipment it was not the best, lots of clamp lamps, simple rigs, etc. But the cameras and sound equipment were better than most used in independent production. The people involved were a blast!!! Some of the most fun I have ever had was working on this movie. The death scenes were a blast to see setup, I even got to be in one, as one of the stoners (the blonde one)who gets impaled which shotgunning a joint. Most of the crew, at least it's true when it came to me, got paid very little to nothing. And for me, having virtually no film experience it was a great learning experience. I would like to get into acting/filming and anything at all that you can have on a reel is better than nothing. Oh, and Camp Slaughter (Camp Daze) won Best Feature at the Indy Film Festival, so some of the horrible opinions of this movie that can be found here should be ignored by anyone interested in checking this film out.

Cheezy... but makes up for it

It's a laugher in the start, but LOTS of BLOOD to come, no T&A :( This movie is about some kids stuck in 1981 at a slaughter camp. The typical slasher film, with many look aways and no chance of seeing the killer until the end. It all makes up any 80s slasher or gore movie we all saw as kids. We need more directors to do more slashers; kids today do not know who Jason, Michael Myers or Freddy really were! In the movie, one new kid seems to have telepathic powers and can see the future and the way the camp kids will die hopefully he can help them. There is nothing wrong with this film, it has the makings of OLD SCHOOL Horrors. I liked it as a decent slasher movie, it's worth a rental. Brad

Worth a watch + recommend. Camp Daze / Camp Slaughter

This isn't a great movie or anything, but if you like something along the lines of Sleepaway Camp, I think this is worth watching & being remembered 20 years from now.

I think what keeps this movie relevant 20 years later is the effort that went into it. It's not low budget trash - it's more than a group of 4 people with a camera and laptop to edit, making improv found footage.

I think this is on a level above that style of movie. And probably better than some of the Puppet Master/Children of the Corn style movies, or some of the Full Moon stuff.

I think the argument could be made that this is as-good as the Friday the 13th movies. IMO, Camp Daze has a lot more plot to it, and a lot more of interest to me. I'd rather watch this, than Friday the 13th.

I'm surprised at the low ratings on IMDB, but it's also 15 years later, and I didn't pay $10 to watch what I expected to be a mainstream movie. The worst bits are probably the acting, some technical difficulties with sound & editing, and I wish one of the characters was omitted. But whoever wrote it was at least passionate about it, and that was enough for me.
