Own the rights?
First of all I'm not a Kusturica fan, but I have certain respect for his flamboyant and imaginative cinematic style. Unfortunately, non of that style is present here. I've just left the cinema totally confused how such a experienced director can made such a sloppy, incoherent mess. We have: Maradona the drug addict, Maradona the punk revolutionary, Maradona the deity, Maradona the football genius... You might say that it's multilayered portrayal of multilayered persona, but it doesn't achieve absolutely anything on any layer. My friend and I both commented that we haven't seen such a messy documentary in a long time. It's a shame, because Maradona's life obviously has a cinematic potential, but it certainly overwhelms Kusturica's vision. And boy, does it have ludicrously naive ideological stance!
