I recently watched this movie at a Sneak preview and found it quite
entertaining as far as dutch movies go. This movie is based on the
novel "Aan de Haal" from Gijsbert Termaat and Tjerk de Vries, which is
in turn based on a true event: Dennis P. became Holland's biggest
diamond thief when he walked away with almost 10 million euros worth of
diamonds of an international diamond trader.
The movie tells the story about that heist in an enjoyable way, much
like the movie "Vet Hard" did. If you like that movie, this one will
certainly be worth your money. I found the movie to be very
entertaining to watch due to its humor (loads of sarcasm by "Edo
Brunner", who plays Dennis P.) and touching story. As the movie
progressed, I went on to like Dennis and his motives for stealing the
diamonds, this sympathy for his actions lasted all the way through the
end of this touching movie.

Saw it in the sneak preview.
It's a basic movie about a man (Dennis) that has not much success in
life. He is overweight. He lost his business because is unable to use
money in a good way. He is very shy around women.
In the beginning of the movie he starts working at a new job, a diamond
trading firm. because of his bankruptcy he has to pay most of his
salary to the creditors. so he hasn't got money to live on, only a
little for the basic food and clothes. He has to live with his parents
again.
So he starts to steal a few diamonds, he uses the few thousands he gets
on fancy clothes, a new car and he goes to a sex-club. He is to shy to
have sex, but he likes to buy the time of a girl, just to dance and
talk to her. No sex. But he falls in love with her.
this goes on for a while.. meanwhile the diamond firm gets in trouble
over the missing diamonds.. he doesn't really say to the girl what he
does.. when everything seems to go wrong he sees only one solution. To
steal ALL the diamonds and run away with the girl. This part is the
best of the movie with some good scenes. after some adventures they end
up in Mexico, since that's the girl's dream.
Dennis is still in love with the girl, but she is in love with a
Mexican. He cannot buy her, not even with $10.000.000 in diamonds...
The end is nice. It's based on a real person. He has stolen the
diamonds, and has been send to jail, but since what happened at the end
of the movie, he got a low punishment and got released from prison
early due to good behavior..
The movie ends with the message that the diamond firm payed him his
salary up to SIX months after he ran away with the loot :) That's the
modern information age :P the hadn't removed him from the
administration files....
