Update: 'Dark Knight Returns' Poster, Silent Bob Sees 'Watchmen' and a Scarlett Threesome

21 August 2008 1:29 AM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Oh man, these link articles are too much fun... Update: Just got word the Dark Knight Returns fan made poster I mention below was made by Chris Pick and he posted it over at the SuperheroHype forums. Nice work Chris! Here's the poster for those that haven't seen it. Warner Bros. chief Alan Horn talked to Variety about the upcoming DC Comics film and the big revelation is that it's "maddening". Yeah, it was hard hitting stuff. However, it does talk about Chris Nolan and the possibility of him returning for a third film in the Batman franchise he has created. There's a deal for the director to helm a third pic, but he has yet to decide on whether to tackle it yet. Horn then says, "We have no idea where Chris is going with this. We haven't had any conversations with him about it." Speaking of Batman, click

A PG-13 Punisher? Don't Count on it!

18 August 2008 11:34 AM, PDT | From JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news

Word about Punisher: War Zone has not been good since its presence at Comic Con. While the Lionsgate panel saw the emergence of that uber-badass gory Red Band trailer (index.php?option=com_content view=article id=3763:comic-con-08-qpunisher-war-zoneq-r-rated-trailer catid=41:news Itemid=65), the fact that director Lexi Alexander was not in attendance, reportedly because she got married and went on a honeymoon, spurned wild and vicious rumors on the web. Harry Knowles from AICN started it (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/37642) by reporting that the honeymoon shindig was a "bald face lie." That Lexi was fired from the film instead due to massive creative differences. Well, apparently he was wrong.

More Punisher drama

18 August 2008 5:03 AM, PDT | From JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news

The whole Punisher: War Zone kafuffle has taken another twist, as now everything is great! According to the film's cinematographer, Steve Gainer, all of that shit that we heard about this movie before was completely fallacious. Lexi is not off the film... Lexi is still involved in the edit process... The film is not (nor could it ever be) PG-13... Today I saw a cut that ran 91 minutes... Lexi did in fact get married... When I hear vicious unfounded troll rumors like the "film was...

Update - So Punisher: War Zone Will Be Rated R After All!

17 August 2008 8:10 PM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

Late last week, George from Latino Review reported that the upcoming Punisher: War Zone was going to be cut down to PG-13. Fans all over the internet went crazy, every last movie website I know picked up the story, and public interest in the movie went from very little to none. Now reports from multiple sources are slowly trickling in that confirm that it was all a bunch of bullshit. Woops! Apparently it looks like Punisher: War Zone will indeed be rated R after all. It was just a temporary internet-wide scare, but I think that news effectively killed all interest in the Punisher movie entirely. Does anyone even care about it anymore? Even I'm tired of reporting all this terrible news about the movie anyway... The first report comes from Film School Rejects, who said an inside source at Lionsgate confirmed it was all "bullshit." Phew, we can wipe

Punisher 2 Will Not Be PG-13, Lexi Still Involved

17 August 2008 3:28 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

The saga of the Punisher: War Zone movie production has got to be one of the most soap-opera-ish things I’ve seen in the time I’ve been covering movie news here on Screen Rant. Rarely have I seen such angst and pain among not only fans of the comic book character that is being brought to the big screen, but movie fans in general.

Of course the roots run deep… all the way back to 1989 when New World Pictures brought us the first Punisher movie, starring of all people Swedish-born Dolph Lundgren playing the title character that was supposed to be a hard-boiled New York City cop. At the time he was considered “hot,” having come off of a couple of Rocky movies, and some genius thought it would be a great idea to cast him in the role.

Actually, if you want a good laugh, I’d recommend

R Slashed To PG-13 For 'Punisher: War Zone'?

15 August 2008 6:43 AM, PDT | From syfyportal.com | See recent syfyportal news

The upcoming "Punisher: War Zone" movie is taking a beating and may turn into as ugly of a mess as disfigured archenemy Jigsaw's face by the time the movie hits the big screen. SyFy Portal had previously reported that Punisher was going to get more adult with the influence of Garth Ennis' very dark take on the Punisher, but boy have things changed since then. It started when Thomas Jane, who played Frank Castle/Punisher in the previous Punisher film, opted to leave "War Zone" and was replaced by Ray Stevenson ("Rome"). Then, Lionsgate allegedly removed director Lexi Alexander from post-production. Her Web site seemed to confirm the news with a cryptic message on her blog showing a picture of three monkeys in .See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil. pose. Things turned out to be a ...

Lionsgate Cutting Punisher: War Zone All The Way Down To PG-13?!

15 August 2008 2:33 AM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

Just when we thought there couldn't be any more bad news in one week, we're hit by this stunning development. Back at Comic-Con, when the upcoming Punisher: War Zone was supposed to be getting some positive buzz, news hit that director Lexi Alexander had been cut off entirely from the film. We knew it was in bad shape when that happened, but we didn't know just how deep the roots went. Now George at Latino Review reports that an inside source close to Punisher says that the big battle that Lionsgate is having internally is whether or not to cut the film all the way down to PG-13. We saw a very similar fight happen with Fox and Live Free or Die Hard last summer. Eventually I got yelled at by our readers for complaining, but it really upset me at the time. And if anyone saw that insanely violent

Punisher neutered?

15 August 2008 1:33 AM, PDT | From JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news

The Punisher should be able one of the easiest comic book characters to adapt. He doesn't dress up like a bat, spider or grow into a giant green monster yet Batman, Spider-Man and The Hulk all have had considerable more success than Frank Castle. It's sad when a Dolph Lundgren led movie is the best of your franchise. Director Lexi Alexander wanted to change all that with Punisher: War Zone and it looked as if she were on the right track until Lionsgate reportedly fired her from her duties...

Worth Watching - Aug 14: Badass Bangkok Dangerous TV Spot

14 August 2008 1:17 AM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

It's Thursday morning and you need your daily dose of action goodness. I've seen a couple of TV spots for Bangkok Dangerous, this being one of them, that actually make the movie look pretty damn good. So I wanted to feature one of them today because until I see it and change my mind, I'm actually looking forward to Bangkok Dangerous quite a bit. It definitely looks better than Punisher: War Zone and after Comic-Con, it even looks better than Max Payne. Nic Cage may be the only wild card right now, but even as cheesy as the voice over in this is, it still looks pretty stylistically unique and action packed; and I really enjoy those kind of movies. I really hope I'm not the only one looking forward to seeing it! What Is Going On With Punisher: War Zone?

5 August 2008 5:40 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

Hollywood, what a crazy, unpredictable place!

Although we all watch movies, I don’t think many of us will ever get to have that true Hollywood experience - and I’m not talking about the type that Hugh Grant got back in ‘95! (Zing!)

Last week we told you that director Lexi Alexander had been removed from post-production on Punisher: War Zone by studio Lionsgate. Her website seemed to corroborate the news when it posted a picture of three monkeys in the classic “See no evil, Hear no evil, Speak no evil” pose.

Now Chud is reporting that Lexi is firmly on-board with the film, and that the story of her “departure” was a work of fiction meant to drum up publicity. Meanwhile, her website has now been updated with a few words from the director herself that appear rather vague, but seem to imply that she’s had a rough ride with the film.

Lexi Alexander Punished By Lionsgate?

29 July 2008 12:02 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

Apparently, The Punisher is just not meant to be a big screen icon.

First Dolph Lundgren took a stab at the character way back in 1989 following the original post-Batman comic book movie frenzy. Then Thomas Jane was cast in a reboot that didn’t please fans, and now it would seem that Ray Stevenson is the third and possibly final actor to play the role in Punisher: War Zone.

Word from AICN is that the director Lexi Alexander has been kicked off the project.

Film School Rejects also heard that the editing team from The Incredible Hulk has also been brough in to help the post-production process.

Now, I’m a pretty curious guy, that so I decided to check out Lexi Alexander’s personal web page - a site that had given copious updates throughout filming,  and what did I see?

What does that mean?

'Punisher: War Zone' Gets Red Band Trailer, May Have Lost a Director

26 July 2008 12:13 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

If it's possible, it looks like Punisher: War Zone may be darker than the first movie. Of course, there were lots of elements about the original Punisher I actually liked, Tom Jane first and foremost. But it certainly wasn't a great film nor a sterling depiction of Frank Castle's story in the comics. I mean, it played the right notes, just not in a very melodic way, if you know what I mean.

The first trailer for War Zone was fine. It could have been a trailer for any movie featuring a guy with a gun. The new unrated trailer is a little more to the point, although I'm not sure it makes the movie look that good, really.

And here's some interesting news: Director Lexi Alexander missed the Comic Con panel for the film, which the producers attributed to her honeymoon, but if you're the director of a movie like this,
