I did not feel the love

"Amor fati" or "Love of Fate" is a 15-minute live action short film from 2005, so this one is already over a decade old. It is an early, but not very early career effort by Dennis Todorovic and the German/Yugoslavian background this film has fits in well with the roots of the man who made it. This is the story of a newly married man and what happens when fate brings him together with his wife's father. It's a bit about tragedy, a bit about love, a bit about culture clash etc., so it is a movie that fits in well during our times of immigration and co-living with people from other cultures, religions and countries. But sadly, I don't think the film ever makes really an impact in any of the fields where it goes for one, i.e. the ones I just mentioned. Actors Tomovic and Bjelac who are pretty successful and pretty prolific as well and who you may even have seen in Hollywood blockbuster films try their best, but the film never becomes as deep and atmospheric as it wants to be which may have to do with the fact that the tragedy who gets things going feels really rushed and for the sake of it and this keeps the film as a whole from becoming something meaningful. All in all, I do not agree with the awards attention it received and I give the movie a thumbs-down. Watch something else instead.
