Will Speck and Josh Gordon, who have a first-look deal with Sony Pictures, are set to direct, with Oscar-nominated screenwriter Nicole Holofcener writing.
“It’s rare to read something that feels like real life, in all the best ways. .. funny, painful, cathartic and lasting. A throwback to the movies we grew up on with a modern sensibility. This is a story we can’t wait to tell,” said Speck and Gordon.
Speck, Gordon and Eric Fineman will produce through their company Speck + Gordon Inc. alongside Jonathan King and Ash Sarohia for Concordia Studio. Shary Shirazi and Kelseigh Coombs are overseeing the project for TriStar.

Michael Bublé seemingly admitted that he was tripping on mushrooms while serving as a celebrity captain for the NHL All-Star Game.
“My buddy told me, ‘this is just a microdose of mushrooms,’ and he was lying,” Bublé said during a media press conference on Thursday. “So, I’ll be honest, I thought I was in Blades of Glory for most of the time that I was out there, until it sort of settled down and then I realized, ‘Holy shit, I am in the NHL All-Star Game.”
Bublé later backtracked the admission when approached by YouTuber Steve Dangle during the evening’s dinner: “It was a joke,” Bublé said in a video Dangle shared to Twitter. “Of course I wasn’t [on mushrooms]! I’m sitting here at dinner. I do have a problem with bread. When I get anxious, I can’t stop eating it. But no, not mushrooms.”

Horrors on the high sea are a common enough theme, from Ghost Ship and Deathship to The Haunting of the Mary Celeste and Titanic 666 there are plenty of them. The most recent of these, The Haunting of the Queen Mary opens on Halloween Eve,1938 when the ship’s festivities are replaced with terror as an axe-wielding man hacks his way through its corridors.
The plot then circles back a few hours to show Gwen and David Ratch sneaking into an exclusive party in an attempt to get their daughter Jackie introduced to some Hollywood stars who they hope can help her become the next Shirley Temple.

There is apparently no line Kanye West won’t cross. Even before his dangerous and roundly condemned “death con 3 On Jewish People” tweet got him suspended from Twitter last year, he debuted a “White Lives Matter” T-shirt alongside conservative pundit Candace Owens during his Paris Fashion Week presentation, instantly tarnishing his reputation within the industry. And then, after a noxious cycle of public appearances where Ye doubled down on his comments, repeating antisemitic talking points as well as the debunked claim that George Floyd’s death at the hands of...

Everyone has a high school movie that rings uncomfortably true to their own experiences as a teenager. For some, it's a bitingly satirical portrait like "Heathers" or "Mean Girls," while for others, it's a brutally honest dramedy like "The Edge of Seventeen." But for me, there's only one film that really captures what my time was like as a non-Mormon attending a predominantly Mormon high school in a small Utah town in the early 2000s, and that's "Napoleon Dynamite." True, writer/director Jared Hess' 2004 cult hit takes place in the filmmaker's hometown of Preston, Idaho, but ... well, let's just say that if you know anything about small-town Utah and Idaho Mormon culture, then you know they weren't exactly worlds apart when the film was made.
I was fortunate enough to have graduated from high school literal weeks before "Napoleon Dynamite" arrived, which spared me from having to listen to my...

It's Will Ferrell's party, and we're all invited. On Oct. 7, the actor made a surprise appearance as guest DJ at a Sigma Alpha Mu frat party at the University of Southern California, his alma mater. Getting the party started ahead of the football team's game against the University of Arizona, Ferrell hopped behind the turntables and blasted a medley of hits, including "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor and "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers. Ferrell also played "N- in Paris" by Jay-Z and Kanye West, which features a clip of his "Blades of Glory" character Chazz saying, "No one knows what it means, but it's provocative."
At one point, Ferrell even took his hands off the turntables to operate a fog cannon as he bobbed his head along to the music. Around him, college students danced, sang along, and, of course, recorded the unforgettable moment on their phones.

The "Twisted Metal" video games were a huge favorite of millennials growing up, fulfilling the vehicular combat desires of angsty tweens hopped up on Mountain Dew and a variety of angry white boy music dominating the airwaves. Parents clutched pearls over the excessive violence and graphic ballistics, and gamers couldn't get enough of it. "Twisted Metal" was hugely popular, and the game's star, the hulking clown Needles "Sweet Tooth" Kane, became an easily identifiable figure. He drives an ice cream truck. He wears a leather daddy fetish harness. And of course, he's an evil clown built like a 1980s big hoss wrestler.
Peacock recently adapted the games into a series, turning the explosive games into a weirdly addictive post-apocalyptic action comedy. Since Sweet Tooth exists solely behind his demented clown mask, the creative team was wise to enlist comedian, actor, and prominent voice-over performer Will Arnett to give Sweet Tooth his personality.

No one would comment but I hear the series revolves around a professional golfer who becomes the face of a controversial new league competing with the PGA.
While fictional, the story would inevitably draw parallels to the controversial Liv Golf startup. It also evokes one of Ferrell’s signature movies, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. The series is in a similar tone, I hear, bringing Ferrell back to the sports arena he also explored in Blades of Glory and Semi-Pro.

That 70s Show is probably at the top of the list of iconic sitcoms of the late ’90s and early 2000s. The show ran for eight seasons and still remains one of the most beloved shows to have aired.
Following a group of teenagers in the ’70s navigating that crazy decade, That ’70s Show made its mark on TV, not only with its great and funny storylines but also with its huge lineup of guest stars. One star appeared for an episode on the show before hitting it big with The Office.

For nearly a century, exóticos have been the clowns of Mexican wrestling: silly, queer-coded characters in flamboyant drag who pranced about the ring for the amusement of homophobic crowds. These hoary stereotypes have long been a part of the tradition of lucha libre — the country’s second-most-popular sport after soccer. Since Mexican wrestling matches are treated like elaborate metaphors of good versus evil, exóticos always lost to their more macho adversaries. Until Cassandro, an openly gay fighter whose outsized personality and atypical success feel ready-made for the movies.
Oscar winner Roger Ross Williams not only knows it, but possesses special insights into Cassandro’s story, having profiled “The Man Without a Mask” Saúl Armendáriz for his 2016 short film of the same name. Dancing on Ice star Christopher Dean has broken his finger just days before the new series begins.
Dean, who stars alongside long-term skating partner Jayne Torvill on the popular ITV reality series, shared the news with fans on social media.
The former professional skater posted a picture of his finger in a bandage, alongside the caption: “Yes broken.”
“We were trying the Iron Lotus, but ended up doing a Half Nelson,” he wrote, in a follow-up tweet. “Or did I just fall over a suitcase in the middle of the night.”
The “Iron Lotus” refers to a fictional figure skating move from the 2007 Will Ferrell comedy Blades of Glory.
Torvill and Dean rose to prominence during the 1984 Winter Olympics, when their figure skating routine set to Maurice Ravel's “Boléro” was awarded a gold medal.
The celebrity contestants for the new series of Dancing on Ice were announced back in October last year.

Before the passing of Stephen “tWitch” Boss, HGTV had big plans for the popular dancer/personality and his wife/dancer Allison Holker. Besides developing their own show called Living the Dream that would help first time buyers find a home, the couple was scheduled to go into production on a limited series similar to the channel’s A Very Brady Renovation from 2019 — except in this case, the couple would oversee the construction of full-sized Malibu Barbie Dream House.
There was even talk at one point of finding a house in Malibu to renovate, but HGTV settled on a place in Santa Clarita. Filming was supposed to commence in January.
Boss died on Dec. 13.
“We are taking the time to consider different scenarios,” an HGTV spokesperson tells Deadline. “But for now, our primary focus remains on wishing our best to Allison and the entire Boss family during this difficult time.”

Stephen Laurel Boss, better known by his stage name “tWitch,” has died. He was 40 years old.
Boss’ wife, Allison Holker Boss, confirmed the news in a statement given to People:
It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us. Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him. He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans. To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt. I am certain there won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t honor his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and especially for our three children. Stephen, we love you,...

Nothing makes me feel Scroogier than a slapped-together Christmas movie, which, thanks to the algorithms of tech-companies-turned-content-creators, start to drop in late October (even before Halloween) at a rate of nearly a dozen a week. It's a bit surprising that Bernard Waber's children's story "Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile" hasn't already been made into a theatrical kids' film. After all, ever since its publication back in 1965, countless children have learned about the power of friendship and good Samaritanism through this friendly crocodile. While there was a straight-to-tv special released in 1987, this timeless tale hadn't been explored or reinvented -- until now.
Directors Will Speck and Josh Gordon signed on to direct a new script based on the classic story in 2021, with a screenplay written by William Davies. While the filmmaking duo was mostly known for PG-13 and R-rated comedies, this new production proved that they had the right chops for family entertainment as well. /Film recently spoke with Speck and Gordon to discuss the movie's extensive prep process, as well as what it was like filming elaborate scenes without the show's main star on set.

After a generally miserable September at the box office, October bursts in with the promise of at least two franchise films, although things will kick off mildly with two very different movies — one based on a children’s book and the other an original.
Sony’s “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” is the first new PG-rated family movie in over two months. It’s hard to imagine that families who have been desperate to get the kids out of the house won’t take advantage of a new movie that is appropriate for them. Based on the 1965 children’s book by Bernard Waber, the live action hybrid movie is directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck (“Blades of Glory”) and stars Javier Bardem, Constance Wu, Winslow Fegley, Brett Gelman and Scoot McNairy. More importantly, it features the singing voice of pop star Shawn Mendes as Lyle the Crocodile, performing songs that include...

Almost 60 years after famous children’s author Bernard Waber published “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile,” the story is finally getting a live-action adaptation.
The 1965 picture book, a sequel to “The House on East 88th Street,” follows a saltwater crocodile navigating the streets of New York City. At the worldwide red carpet premiere on Sunday, the cast and crew discussed the process of threshing out a grander narrative based on the ten books in the “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” series.
“It’s like a 17-page book, so the room for growth and expansion is tenfold,” producer Kevin Vafi told Variety at AMC Lincoln Square 13 in New York. “It’s finding those homage points that you really want to do, like the note in the attic or meeting Lyle in the bathtub with Mrs. Primm — all these little callbacks to the book.”

Jeremy Kramer out at youth-oriented division after 18 months.
In the latest studio streamlining move Paramount Pictures has absorbed Paramount Players under the leadership of motion picture group co-heads Daria Cercek and Michael Ireland.
Paramount Players president Jeremy Kramer will step down after 18 months overseeing the division, which was initially set up for current Paramount Pictures president and CEO Brian Robbins to make youth-oriented films in conjunction with flagship brands under what was then the Viacom stable.

After years of playing insecure braggarts, the actor is taking on a new challenge – as star of the improvised celebrity cop show Murderville. He talks about his ‘weird’ period, his split with Amy Poehler, and having a baby in his 50s
No one is better at playing idiotic egomaniacs than Will Arnett, and I mean that as the highest of compliments. From his malevolent ice skating champion in Blades of Glory, to the nefarious TV executive Devon Banks in 30 Rock, to most famously, Gob Bluth, the inept eldest son on Arrested Development, Arnett has cornered the market on fools who brag about themselves to compensate for how little they have to brag about.
“Like the guy in the $4,000 suit is holding the elevator for the guy who doesn’t make that in three months. Come on!” Gob shouts at his employees. So it is extremely pleasing that when we connect by video chat,...

Exclusive: Former MTV topper Van Toffler is back in a formal relationship with the company where he spent almost three decades as an executive. MTV Entertainment Group has signed a multi-picture deal with independent studio Gunpowder & Sky, co-founded and run by Van Toffler, former CEO of Viacom Media Networks Music & Logo Group. The pact follows Mtve’s collaboration with Gunpowder & Sky on Comedy Central’s Hot Mess Holiday movie, starring Kal Penn, which was recently nominated for two NAACP awards, and signals a push in that area for the ViacomCBS division.
Under the pact, Mtve and Gunpowder & Sky, led by CEO Toffler and fellow MTV alum, EVP Development and Production David Gale, will develop comedic movies for MTV Entertainment’s portfolio of brands and platforms.
This is a familiar territory for Toffler and Gale who built MTV’s movie business with MTV Films, which Toffler launched and oversaw and...
