Who's Spidey on stage?

8 August 2008 3:23 AM, PDT | From JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news

You might have heard that Spider-Man is coming to Broadway in a musical directed by Julie Taymor (Across The Universe). While this is a fundamentally flawed idea, it's moving ahead and about two weeks ago they held an open casting call in New York City to try and find their Peter Parker. While Freddie Prinze, Jr. didn't show up in red tights, it's almost that bad. New York Magazine has a bunch of headshots from actors in consideration as well as brief bios and I'm starting to think I took...

Sturgess Couldn't Get Arrested In Las Vegas

30 March 2008 3:52 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Across The Universe star Jim Sturgess desperately tried to get arrested in Las Vegas, so he could fully experience the risky life of a card counter for his new gambling film 21.

The Brit plays a mathematics whizzkid who joins a gang of figures-smart youths who team up to win big in Sin City.

Sturgess and his co-stars trained with real-life Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Mit) card counters and top gamblers for the new Kevin Spacey film - but he couldn't get arrested.

He explains, "We would mess around at the tables pulling our ears, scratching our noses and make out like we were counting cards, hoping we would get caught.

"But we were only playing with five dollar chips so it wasn't very impressive."

Sturgess insists he couldn't be a real-life card counter because he doesn't have the mathematical skills.

He adds, "I'd sit down at the (poker) table, apologise for being English and not having a clue how to play the game.

"I became as confident as you see in the film but unfortunately I don't have the mathematical ability to count cards and win any kind of money."

American Idol 7: Ranking the Top 12 Performances

11 March 2008 3:15 PM, PDT | From buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news

Beatles Night on American Idol was not a disaster.  Great.  This marks a victory for this crop of American Idol contestants.  I only counted four performances that I would deem “poor” tonight, which was less than I expected.  Speaking as a Beatles super-fan, I never understood the uproar regarding American Idol contestants performing songs from the beloved Lennon/McCartney song book.  Being allowed to sing great songs is never a bad thing.  Sure, there was the possibility that they would butcher these incredible songs, but doesn't that happen all the time with Beatles songs?  Regardless, I was more or less pleased with tonight's two-hour episode of American Idol.  I'm sure you readers will have some serious qualms with parts of my rankings below – feel free to comment and tell me where I'm wrong.  Remember, these rankings are only about my favorites of the night – they aren't about who I think will be going home.

American Idol 7: Top 12 Performances, Live Thoughts

11 March 2008 12:01 PM, PDT | From buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news

It's here: Beatles Night on American Idol.  I've been waiting with both excited anticipation and sheer dread for the Top 12 to perform tunes from the legendary Lennon/McCartney songbook (I doubt anyone will do a George Harrison song – maybe “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” or “Taxman”).  I have no doubt that at least a couple of The Beatles songs will be butchered tonight, but I also am optimistic that we'll hear a handful or worthy covers.  The simple truth is that almost every Beatles song is a great song, which makes it that much easier for the American Idol hopefuls to concoct a good arrangement.  Word on the street is that Emi/Capitol/Michael Jackson/Apple/whatever only released 25 Beatles songs for the Idols to choose from tonight.  This bothered me at first, but let's be honest – they're all exceptional pieces of music and 25 is more than enough to choose from.

American Idol 7: Top 16 Elimination Interviews

7 March 2008 6:29 AM, PST | From buddytv.com | See recent BuddyTV news

American Idol named its Top 12 last night, with four singers coming oh-so-close but ultimately falling just a bit short.  Danny Noriega, Asiah Epperson, Luke Menard and Kady Malloy were all sent home during Thursday's American Idol Results Show.  None of the eliminations were much of a surprise and it's safe to say that, even if any of these four had made the Top 12, none of them had any sort of chance at winning the entire thing.  That being said, I felt that both Danny and Kady have the potential to be minor stars in their own right.  Those two were hurt by poor song choices and the inability to find their niche quickly enough.  Asiah has a good voice, but it's nothing special.  Luke, I'm sad to say, probably won't be heard from again.  He's a good guy, though.  All four eliminated singers took questions during a series of conference calls earlier today,
