Eddie Won't Watch 'Meet Dave' Why Should I?

9 July 2008 4:00 PM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Thanks to the folks at Vulture we learn that Eddie Murphy not only didn't show up for the premiere of Meet Dave, his new film opening this weekend (yeah, who knew?), but he actually cancelled a mere 90 minutes before arrival. How do they know? Well, a little publicist birdie made an anonymous post at DataLounge that went a little something like this... And why he's so hated in Hollywood. It's 4:45pm, his "Meet Dave" premiere - which he is the one and only star - is an hour and a half away. And he Just Cancelled. Yep, all that time, money, work by everyone and dickhead Eddie just informed us he decided he's not going to show up. To his own premiere. To promote his own movie. This is why he lost for Dreamgirls. This is why Hollywood loves to see him fail. Cause even by Hollywood standards, he's an asshole among assholes.

The Best News of All Time

1 July 2008 12:25 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Hide your transvestite hookers: Eddie Murphy may have a lot more free time on his hands.

According to WENN, he might be hanging it up after a career that began promisingly with 48 Hours and Beverly Hills Cop and ran aground ten years later. Even his Oscar nomination for Dreamgirls felt obligatory. Except to Murphy, of course, who's such a good sport he walked out of the ceremony after losing to a better performance by a better human being (Alan Arkin). There were actually quite a few better candidates than Murphy that year, and I'd be glad to list them for you should you ask.

So now, the once funny but long since irrelevant and self-absorbed Murphy might call it quits.

"I have close to fifty movies and it's like, why am I in the movies? I've done that part now," said Murphy. "I'll go back to the stage and do stand-up.

Archuleta Lands Record Deal

6 June 2008 5:09 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

American Idol runner-up David Archuleta is set to release an album later this year after signing a major record deal - even though he failed to win the U.S. TV show.

Archuleta was widely tipped to come out triumphant on the TV talent competition, but he eventually lost by a landslide 12 million votes to opponent David Cook in the final episode last month.

The 17-year-old's contract with 19 Recordings/Jive Records mirrors the paths of former 'Idol' stars Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson and Clay Aiken, who all lost in past seasons but have successfully launched careers in the film, music and theatre arenas.

In a statement released Thursday, series creator Simon Fuller says: "It was fascinating to watch David's journey through 'Idol'. He is a genuine pop star, and is a gifted singer."

Daughtry managed to achieve the best-selling album in the U.S. in 2007, while Hudson won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in the same year for her role in Dreamgirls. Aiken finished a four-month stint on Broadway last month playing Sir Robin in Monty Python's Spamalot.

Hudson Envies Glamorous Satc Co-stars

14 May 2008 5:04 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson found it difficult working with her glamorous co-stars on Sex And The City: The Movie - because she was jealous of their high-fashion costumes.

The Dreamgirls star landed a role as lead character Carrie Bradshaw's personal assistant in the movie version of the hit U.S. TV show - and longed to dress in designer wares like the four New York party girls.

But Hudson was left disappointed, as her character was unable to afford the expensive creations made famous in the show.

She says, "I wanted to dress like them. But it was unrealistic for my character. Her budget was not their budget. She was just a college kid... so she couldn't afford any of that stuff."

However, the star wasn't left too glum with her budget outfits - because she hates wearing high-heels.

She explains, "To be honest, I don't like any shoes. And I can't stand high-heels. I don't know what are the highest heels I've ever had. I've never been label crazy."

14 May 2008 1:20 AM, PDT | From PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news

Jennifer Hudson is not only appearing in the Sex and the City movie – but the Dreamgirls Oscar-winner is lending her vocals to the film's soundtrack, as well. People.com has the official first listen of Hudson's song "All Dressed in Love," available May 27. Listen to it here: The energetic track showcases the former American Idol contestant's powerful voice over horns, piano and string arrangements, which contribute to its disco-era feel. The song was written by Mc Jack Splash and Gnarls Barkley's Cee-Lo Green. The Sex and the City: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack also features a song by Fergie, who contributes the re-imagined theme song,

Jay-z + Beyonce Are Husband And Wife

6 April 2008 7:11 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Superstars Shawn 'Jay-z' Carter and Beyonce Knowles are now husband and wife, a close friend of the couple has revealed.

The couple is alleged to have married in a private ceremony at a chapel in Scarsdale Village in Westchester, New York, on Friday afternoon, surrounded by around 30 friends and family.

The all-white ceremony was attended by Knowles' mother Tina and father Mathew, and her younger sister Solange.

Also in attendance were the Crazy In Love star's former Destiny's Child bandmates, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, Carter's mum Gloria, and pals Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The wedding party then moved on to the rap mogul's luxury New York penthouse apartment in the TriBeCa area of the city, where a marquee had been erected on a terrace at the building. The marquee was also decorated with five-foot (1.52-meter) tall candelabras and 60,000 elegant white orchids, which had been flown in from Thailand at a cost of $500,000 (GBP250,000).

The wedding reception was reportedly attended by more than 200 guests, including producer/music mogul Jermaine Dupri and his girlfriend Janet Jackson, R+B singer Usher, rappers Wyclef Jean and Kanye West, producer Pharrell Williams, and Knowles' Dreamgirls co-stars Jennifer Hudson and Jamie Foxx.

And the low-key wedding celebration was exactly what the couple had in mind.

On Friday, the source told People.com, "It happened earlier this evening. Jay wanted it to be a really private affair - close friends and family."

But the newlyweds, who have been dating since 2002, will not have time for a honeymoon just yet - Carter is currently in the middle of a North American tour with hip-hop/soul queen Mary J. Blige.

Instead, the couple is reportedly set to celebrate their nuptials at a luxury $8,000 (GBP4,000)-a-night hotel on the Caribbean island of Anguilla later this year.

'Juno' Soundtrack Hits No. 1

31 January 2008 | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

The soundtrack to Juno has risen to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart, making it the first time in memory that a soundtrack from a specialty film has ever reached the magazine's top spot. It was released by the quirky Rhino label, which has never had a No. 1 hit before. The last movie soundtrack to top the chart was from last year's Paramount/DreamWorks film, Dreamgirls. Billboard noted that the last soundtrack from an Oscar nominee to hit No. 1 was 1998's Titanic.

Murphy Confirms Split

17 January 2008 | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Eddie Murphy has confirmed he and his wife of two weeks have split. The Dreamgirls star wed music mogul Tracey Edmonds in Bora Bora on January 1 after a year-long romance. The couple was planning to renew their vows in an official ceremony on American soil after learning their private island nuptials carried no legal significance in the U.S, but that didn't take place. In a statement released on Wednesday, Murphy explained, "After much consideration and discussion, we have jointly decided that we will forego having a legal ceremony as it is not necessary to define our relationship further. While the recent symbolic union in Bora Bora was representative of our deep love, friendship and respect that we have for one another on a spiritual level, we have decided to remain friends." A source tells In Touch Weekly the couple fell out over the plans for a legal ceremony. The insider tells the magazine Murphy was upset when his new bride refused to take his name. Edmonds wanted to keep her existing name - from her marriage to R&B star Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds' - because her sons have that surname.

Murphy & Edmonds Wed

3 January 2008 | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Dreamgirls actor Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds have married in a New Year's Day ceremony. The couple wed on a private island off Bora Bora in French Polynesia in front of 25 friends and family on Tuesday, a spokesman has confirmed to People.com. Murphy, 46, wore a cream suit and vest with an off-white handkerchief while Edmonds, 40, walked barefoot down the aisle to Gladys Knight's hit track "Makings of You." The couple - who have been dating since Autumn 2006 - wed under a gazebo on a special man-made beach constructed of 6,000 shells. After the ceremony, Edmonds gave each of her bridesmaids gold and diamond earrings while Murphy gave his groomsmen designer watches. It is the second marriage for the couple - Murphy divorced Nicole Mitchell in April 2006, while Edmonds ended her marriage to music mogul Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds in October 2005.
