Sophia Bush came out to the world this week and noted that she has found “real joy” during a new stage of her life.
The Chicago P.D. alum (she played Detective Erin Lindsay) says that regarding her sexuality, “the word that best defines it is queer.”
Sophia has been on television and in many films. She has also been seen on stage, including a recent play in London.
Many television viewers met Sophia as Brooke Davis on One Tree Hill. She then starred as Erin Lindsey on the One Chicago shows. She was seen on Chicago P.D., Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and the failed spin-off, Chicago Justice. Her character was even on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit four times.
Sophia played Beth in John Tucker Must Die, October in Stay Alive, and Grace Andrews in The Hitcher on the big screen.

As Screenlife storytelling transitions into the livestream era, movies like Michelle Iannantuono’s Livescreamers have me most excited. Early Screenlife films like Unfriended and The Den read like one-takers but are computer-set events like someone recorded their computer monitor or laptop screen. What Livescreamers offers — or examples like Spree, Deadstream, and #chadgetstheaxe — is the propulsive energy of a continuous stream devolving into chaos. Creators who put on celebrity identities face dreadful realities, not the protective online bubbles they’ve built where their antics draw millions of views. Livescreamers cherrypicks elements of Stay Alive, House on Haunted Hill, Unfriended, and cringy video game playthrough streams to create something horrifying that both sells its chills and comments on the vulnerable current state of livestream culture.
Low-budget restraints might hold back specific effects, and the film’s narrative throughline is a little wonky in spots, but what Iannantuono accomplishes comes from a place of authenticity.

Frankie Muniz is opening up about his experience as a child actor and why he would “never” let his son follow in his footsteps.
The actor-turned-nascar driver told Pedestrian TV in an interview shared on TikTok Sunday that he wouldn’t let his son Mauz, who’s currently 3 years old, start working as an actor at a young age because “it’s an ugly world in general.”
“I would never let my kid go into the business,” Muniz said. “And not that I had a negative experience, because to be honest, my experience was 100 percent positive. But I know so many people, friends that were close to me, that had such insanely negative experiences.”
“I just think it’s an ugly world in general,” he added. “I never cared about rejection, but there’s a ton of rejection.”

Sinister cards, death, teenagers. That’s all you need to know about the new horror film Tarot before watching the trailer here.
A group of teens begin dying mysteriously after taking part in a sinister game. Sound familiar? This could easily describe mutliple films such as Ouija, Truth Or Dare or Stay Alive.
In this case, though, we’re talking about Tarot, which is aiming to be 2024’s big horror sensation.
Take a look at the Tarot trailer.
If the name Tarot doesn’t ring a bell, not to worry. The film was going by the name Horrorscope until recently.
Here’s the official synopsis: “When a group of friends recklessly violates the sacred rule of Tarot readings – never use someone else’s deck – they unknowingly unleash an unspeakable evil trapped within the cursed cards. One by one, they come face to face with fate and end up in a...

Disney’s reputation is notoriously squeaky clean.
The beloved company has provided family-friendly fun for decades, with live-action favorites and animated classics spanning back to the 1930s.
As a powerful force in the industry and one of Hollywood’s biggest studios, the company expanded its reach over the years with film distribution companies, like Touchstone Pictures, Miramax, Searchlight Pictures and Buena Vista Distribution.
The movies often featured more adult themes than one would expect from the company. Because they are published by subsidiaries, the titles are all only indirectly Disney-related – but they still fall under the major studio’s umbrella anyway.

Many actors find early success in the horror genre. Jennifer Aniston battled an evil, pun-loving Irish creature in "Leprechaun" years before she landed "Friends," for example. Charlize Theron's first role came in "Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest." Even "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation" boasted not one, but two future Oscar winners in its cast, Matthew McConaughey and Renée Zellweger.
That said, not everyone manages to go on to achieve that same level of success. For every Michelle Williams ("Halloween H20: 20 Years Later") and Leonardo DiCaprio ("Critters 3"), there are countless horror stars whose careers don't reach the same level of renown. It can be especially interesting to look back at teen horror films, which often feature ensemble casts, to see who made it and who didn't. The actors on this list all have respectable careers, and most are still working in Hollywood; they simply never...

Industrial metal band Static-x have released the new song “Stay Alive.” The track appears on the band’s upcoming Project Regeneration: Vol. 2 album and features vocals from late frontman Wayne Static.
“Stay Alive” is one of the final original songs Wayne was working on before his passing. In fact, in a release, the group’s former sound engineer Eddie Ortel says, “Wayne was working on this track the night that he passed away.”
An accompanying music video can be disturbing to some, as it features unreleased footage from Wayne’s “Assassins of Youth” video that shows him engaging in drug use that would eventually lead to his early death. Wayne passed away on November 1st, 2014, at the age of 48.
In the song, Wayne sings of the hardships of being a “professional addict” with the cry, “I just need you to survive! Cut you up to stay alive!” Along with Wayne on lead vocals,...

Despite existing for over half a century and evolving into one of the most profitable creative industries in the world, it’s only recently that filmmakers have gotten the hang of properly depicting video games on the big screen. This is likely because we’re now seeing a generation of writers and directors who actually grew up playing these games instead of observing them as outsiders – and that also applies to genre creators.
In fact, when it comes to horror, there have been a surprising amount of games featured in scary movies, with these interactive experiences often serving a central role in the story in much the same way that a cursed book or video tape might have been used in an older horror flick. With that in mind, we’ve decided to come up with a list highlighting six of the scariest video games in horror movies, as fictional...

After a 13-year gap between films, the prequel to Jaume Collet-Serra's hit 2009 killer kid(?) movie "Orphan" debuted on Paramount+ alongside a limited theatrical release this weekend, with "Orphan: First Kill" proving audiences can't get enough of Esther. William Brent Bell of "The Boy," "Stay Alive," and "Separation" fame is in the director's chair this time around, with "Orphan" star Isabelle Fuhrman returning to play the titular role, despite the fact she's now well into her 20s. Even with the day-and-date release, "Orphan: First Kill" managed to bring home 1.6 million in its opening weekend, while playing in only 498 theaters across the country.
For comparison, the Idris Elba starring "Beast" opened in 3,743 theaters. Our friends over at Bloody-Digusting put together some quick math, which shows that "Orphan: First Kill" averaged 3,363 per theater, while "Beast" pulled in 3,091 per theater on average. There’s a surprisingly nasty edge to this tolerable yet derivative wannabe franchise-starter about a cursed game from the 80s
It’s strange that the silly but mostly tolerable horror Choose or Die was an acquisition rather than a homegrown Netflix original given how much it seems algorithmically modeled for the notoriously formula-obsessed platform. It stars Asa Butterfield, an in-house star thanks to the success of Sex Education. It’s contemporary-set but baked in 80s nostalgia, something that also inspires the aesthetic of the aforementioned comedy series as well as the entirety of long-running hit Stranger Things. It also focuses on a cursed video game, making it a close cousin to the streamer’s interactive Black Mirror hit Bandersnatch. It’s a film destined to live its days in the “if you like” container.
It’ll probably fare well there as fans of the above might find just about enough...

“You have the manners of an alley cat”
Don’t answer the door! But do head to the Marcus Des Peres Cinema this Friday and Saturday (January 14th and 15th) at 10pm for the 4k restoration of Death Game (1974) starring Sandra Locke and Colleen Camp. This is of course this month’s Destroy the Brain.com’s entry in their ‘Late Nite Grindhouse’ film series. Tickets are $10 each. A Facebook invite with advance ticket details can be found Here
Death Game is a sexy and intriguing spin on the cat-and-mouse home-invasion thriller. 70s foxes Sandra Locke and Colleen Camp energetically play the cats, with the mouse played by Seymour Cassel, the good husband who, when home alone, falls prey to their kinky temptations. Faithlessness, lust, and violence ensue. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see this somewhat forgotten classic on the big screen this weekend at The Des Peres.

Standing on a makeshift stage surrounded by shrubbery, the smell of cedar chips lacing the humid summer air, Laura Jane Grace addressed the sold-out crowd that had shambled through the industrial wasteland of the Philadelphia outskirts to see her play a pretty unconventional venue: Four Seasons Total Landscaping.
“I’ve performed at big arenas, at Wembley Stadium,” she said Saturday afternoon, holding just an acoustic guitar that would fill in for her band. “I sang onstage with Cyndi Lauper, written songs with Weezer, been onstage with Joan Jett, none of that compares to this.

In a grand act of trolling, Laura Jane Grace will be performing a solo set at Philadelphia’s Four Seasons Total Landscaping, the groundskeeping company that infamously hosted a press conference for former President Donald Trump’s campaign in what appeared to be a logistical blunder. (Prior to the event, reporters and the general public assumed it would be hosted at the Four Seasons Hotel.)
The show will take place on Saturday, August 21st, and will also feature a performance from Brendan Kelly of the Lawrence Arms.

Masked killers are a common trope in horror movies — a concept Laura Jane Grace flips on its head for the Covid-19 age in the video for “The Swimming Pool Song.”
The brief slasher movie, directed by Emulsion Lab, starts with a bloodied woman in a flowered dress (poet Hannah Gamble) fleeing a figure in black across a barren field. When the woman falls to her knees and the masked figure (Grace) draws near, we see Gamble laughing as Grace retreats toward the camera, cocking a finger at the viewer. It...

Keanu Reeves has been blessed with numerous hit movies in his time, from Bill & Ted to The Matrix to John Wick. But hey, they can’t all be hits. Still, fans of the eternally youthful star can rediscover some of his lesser known films thanks to streaming and it seems that Netflix users are doing just that this week, as a forgotten thriller from five years ago starring Reeves is dominating the site.
According to FlixPatrol’s Top 10 chart, 2015’s Knock Knock is the seventh most-watched movie on Netflix in the US today. If you haven’t heard of it – which seems likely – the pic features Reeves as a devoted father and happily married man who helps two stranded women (Lorenza Izzo and Ana de Armas) when they knock on his door. However, his kind gesture will prove to be his undoing, as the pair go about systematically destroying his idyllic life.

It’s always disappointing when you hear that Netflix is losing some movies at the beginning of a new month, but it’s equally exciting to see what fresh flicks you can dive into. And with so many great titles releasing on the very first day of November, you’d be forgiven for letting that excitement get the best of you. Comedy fans are being treated to hits like Yes Man and Paul Blart: Mall Cop, those who enjoy old school classics can catch A Clockwork Orange, and heist movie lovers will want to take a look at Ocean’s Eleven.
It goes without saying, of course, that there’s plenty more that’s been added today, too, and if you’re a fan of one of Hollywood’s most beloved actors, Keanu Reeves, you’ll want to check out the addition of his overlooked 2015 erotic thriller Knock Knock.

Imagine the experience of being one of the first individuals to see Lin-Manuel Miranda’s now-classic Hamilton: An American Musical live.
The first thing you notice is the spartan, largely empty stage. Then as Leslie Odom Jr. takes the stage as Aaron Burr followed by Miranda’s Hamilton, you realize that this production about America’s founding fathers is made up almost exclusively of People of Color. That’s a lot to take in from the start. At a certain point, however, you’re bound to realize that the play is about 40 minutes in and The. Music. Has. Not. Stopped.
In addition to its many ingenious quirks and hooks, Hamilton is truly a musical musical. Miranda’s book and lyrics about one of the country’s most colorful and impressive founders has a lot of ground to cover. And it does so at a musical sprint with almost no expository time-wasting in-between.

The streaming charts are filled with genre-agnostic artists — Post Malone, Lil Nas X, Billie Eilish — groomed in a world where continually curating one’s digital self-image is a prerequisite of modern existence. Rapping cowboys and teens with the voice of Regina Spektor and the fashion sense of a Juggalo are the new norm. Taken to its logical conclusion, this phenomenon leads to artists like Rmr — a masked singer who went viral interpolating a Rascal Flatts song, set a video that nearly parodied your average trap visual — as quickly as it seeks to defang them.

Frankie Muniz seems like the kind of guy that should have shown up in horror movies on a regular basis, but in case you were wondering, The Black String isn’t his first foray into horror. A little known gem titled Stay Alive that was released back in 2006 cast him as a geeky gamer that was caught up with his friends in a supernatural thriller centered around the legend of a vengeful spirit that was killing people in the same manner as their avatars died in the game. Of course he was more of a supporting character in that movie,

You may know him best as Malcolm Wilkerson from Malcolm in the Middle, Swink from Stay Alive, or even himself on Preacher, but in the new horror film The Black String, Muniz completely detaches himself from previous portrayals to wholly immerse himself in a story that's equal parts horrific, haunting, and darkly humorous.
A potent blend of It Follows and Jacob's Ladder, The Black String follows convenience store clerk Jonathan (Muniz), who is plagued by a vicious rash and disturbing visions following a one-night stand with a mysterious woman from a singles hotline. The Black String is easily one of my favorite movies of 2019, and with the film now on DVD, Digital, and On Demand from Lionsgate, I was thrilled to speak with Muniz about the movie, including the story's clever ambiguity when it comes to Jonathan's mental state, the everlasting passion of the movie's cast and crew, and how...

The first time I saw Jimmi Simpson was in the movie Stay Alive. It was kind of a cheesy horror flick about a video game that had taken on a life of its own thanks to being based on an old legend about a woman that killed people and bathed in the blood of her victims. Yeah, creepy. Jimmie played the part of Loomis, who was eccentric to say the least and kind of a punk at times as well.
