Stoppit and Tidyup - brilliant!!!
xmessybirdx10 January 2005
I absolutely loved this video when I was little and still do now (don't pity me). The characters all lived in what only could be described as a dump site: the land of Do As You're Told, and all had unique names. Stoppit and Tidyup, hence the title, were the main characters. Stoppit was a small red messy little creature that looked like he had consumed one too many caffeine tablets, and Tidyup was a purple tie-wearing creature who was addicted to gherkins (and lived in a gherkin house!) and uttered nothing else but a loud bellowing "ahhhhh" like a foghorn.

I always remember Terry Wogan's strangely comforting voice introducing the audience to the other characters; Beehave and BeeQuiet the two bees; Eat Your Greens; Go To Bed; Go And Play; Clean Your Teeth; Don't Do That; Calm Down; The Big Bad I SAID NO and his pet Not Now. (Don't rely on me for accurate names!) The episodes only lasted for about 5 minutes but they seemed like a life time when I were a young'n.

I urge you to buy the video or DVD, if not then just download a music file so you can hear Terry Wogan getting excited pronouncing the characters' names! He needs a slap! To be honest it was silly but if I remember it with such fondness and still giggle when I see it, it can't be that bad can it?

I was tiny when this came out, but I have watched the video about 50 times. It should be bought back on TV, as it is better than most stuff out now.

It was introduced in aid of 'Keep Britain Tidy', as it refers to the title.

Aired on CBBC, each episode is several minutes long. The story lines are very suitable for young 'uns, and the magic voice of Terry Wogan makes it all the better. My favourite is when Tidyup gets an infection by a naughty.
