Teased No More! Full Trailer Arrives For German Spy Comedy Jerry Cotton

28 December 2009 7:33 AM, PST | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

The subject of a whopping eight features produced over a span of just four years in the mid-sixties, Germany's spoof on the stereotypical CIA agent, Jerry Cotton, is coming back.  Perhaps emboldened by the success of the Get Smart and Oss 117 revivals Germany is getting back into the spy-comedy game in 2010 with their first Jerry Cotton film in forty years.  We ran the first teaser for this a while back and now the full trailer has arrived.  The slapstick element is very much in effect but balancing that out is some remarkably slick production value and tightly choreographed action.  Very fun.  Check the trailer below.

Box Office

We all knew that it was going to happen – James Cameron’s Avatar snagged the top spot at the box office and banked a heavy $73 million. The gross is impressive considering that the weather in North America was terrible over the weekend. Factoring in foreign grosses the film has now scored over $232 million – if the legs are good, this could be Cameron’s second billion dollar grosser.

The Princess and the Frog had to settle for the runner-up spot. The film dipped just under 50% for a $12.5 million total. The total gross for the Disney film is now $44 million, with $100 million still an option.

America’s Sweetheart Sandra Bullock was in the third spot with The Blind Side. »

Holiday Gift Guide Countdown: #2 The Complete Get Smart

19 December 2009 11:32 AM, PST | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

I wanted this so bad last year. The elevator packaging was one reason. But the main one was that whenever I've caught an episode on TV in the last few years it's made me laugh just as hard as it did when I was a kid watching its initial run. Airing from 1965-1970 Get Smart boasted a writing team that included Buck Henry, Mel Brooks and a young Woody Allen. As an antidote to the obnoxious machismo offered by James Bond and his ilk Max, the Chief and Agent 99 offered plenty of good humor and commentary on the the cold war and the human condition.

Besides all five seasons of the show you get hours and hours of extras done right.

The Collection includes:

• 25 DVDs in special collectors packaging

• 5 eight-page booklets with liner notes written by actor Dave Ketchum (Agent 13) and Alan Spencer, creator of the TV comedy series "Sledge Hammer! »

Saved by the Bell Might Finally Get the Big Screen Treatment

18 December 2009 3:22 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

It's quite surprising that after turning older television shows like Charlie's Angels, Get Smart, The Addams Family into feature films, many of the sitcoms and series from the 90's have remained largely untouched by the property grabbing hands of Hollywood. That has the potential to change soon as Pajiba reports that a Saved by the Bell movie is in the works. And while there's certainly some interest in revisiting Bayside High School (especially from Jimmy Fallon), the film itself would more than likely have an all-new cast with the possibility of cameos from the original cast members. But does anyone want to see this show as a movie? However, I'm not sure if an "all-new cast" means that it will simply have new actors playing Bayside High School's finest. If you're too young to remember the 90's series or just never cared enough to watch, the show aired between 1989 and »

Peter Segal to Direct Neighborhood Watch

18 December 2009 11:42 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Variety is reporting that director Peter Segal (Get Smart, 50 First Dates) is in talks to direct Neighborhood Watch for Twentieth Century Fox.  The director was planning to film the sequel to Get Smart next, but the film has been postponed for the second in year in a row by Warner Bros. due to Carell’s interest in doing another film with Tina Fey or a spec script by Dan Fogelman.  This now leaves Segal free to direct Neighborhood next, which will be written by Jared Stern (Bolt) and produced by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum).  The film will tell the story of a newcomer to a community “who joins the neighborhood watch to only discover that there are supernatural elements afoot.”  The project was originally going to be directed by David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) with Will Ferrell set to star, but the duo have since moved on.

Hollywood Ink: It's Taylor Lautner vs. the Cartels in Cancun

18 December 2009 7:45 AM, PST | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

· Amid talk that Taylor Lautner might follow his New Moon/Eclipse tandem with the franchise kick-starter Max Steel, Summit Entertainment and the star's manager/father have gone ahead and pinned him to the action-thriller Cancun. Lautner would star as a college student on spring break in the titular Mexican city, where it's all fun and games until a drug cartel kidnaps your love interest and friends. Shirtlessness ensues, etc. etc. This movie's still in development and it probably made $10 million in the time it took to write this bullet. [THR]

Warner Bros. treats Steve Carell to a $2 million holiday gift, Carell's Get Smart director tries to stay busy, and more Hollywood Ink after the jump. »

Peter Segal May Join Neighborhood Watch

17 December 2009 10:13 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Earlier this year, Fox suffered a blow to its plans to make weird comedy Neighborhood Watch when director David Dobkin and star Will Ferrell unexpectedly dropped out. Now, however, the studio might just have a back-up plan, at least for behind the camera, and it's thanks to the Get Smart sequel being shoved back by Warners. That means Peter Segal is likely abatable to take over the reins on Watch, which finds a city dweller moving to the suburbs and joining the local neighbourhood watch program, only to discover a massive and (minor spoiler) vaguely supernatural conspiracy. But even if Segal does agree to work on Jared Stern's script, Fox will still need to find a star. Hey, based on the look of The Tooth Fairy trailer, Dwayne Johnson will star in just about anything these days. Why not a reunion with his Get Smart director? »

Review: 'The Mel Brooks Collection' on Blu-ray

14 December 2009 1:33 PM, PST | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

I first encountered Mel Brooks’ work, without realizing it, when I began watching Get Smart, the wonderful spy satire he cocreated with Buck Henry (who just happened to be my father’s college roommate – small world and all that). It wasn’t until Blazing Saddles and being in high school before I could put a name to the madman who unleashed these wonderful works. From that point on, when I saw his name I was guaranteed to be there.

In time, I learned of Brooks’ career prior to Get Smart and understood the steps taken that led to the work that I adored. My respect for his determination as a writer, performer, and romancer only grew with time and understanding. There was no single style to his humor – it could be slapstick, word play, satire – and he blended it unlike anyone previously. Nothing was sacred and he continually pushed the »

Malkovich and Hathaway are Apparently 'Spider-Man 4' Villain Frontrunners

8 December 2009 11:53 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

I have stayed out of the Spider-Man 4 rumor game primarily because it seemed like people were rushing names to the forefront after a mere whiff hit their Inbox. However, Movieline's latest report just feels right to me as if there is actually something behind it, but that isn't to say I like what they're selling.

The latest buzz says John Malkovich will be playing Spider-Man's nemesis the Vulture with Anne Hathaway currently said to be the top choice for Felicia Hardy, a role that also saw rumored names such as Julia Stiles, Rachel McAdams and Romola Garai.

Now, I apologize for my lack of knowledge when it comes to "Spider-Man" lore, but I will decipher the details as best I can.

Movieline says that while Felicia Hardy's alter-ego in the comics was the Black Cat, that isn't the goal of director Sam Raimi's new film. Instead Raimi's »

Rumour: Spider-Man 4 Villains

8 December 2009 7:59 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

There has been a lot of speculation in recent months that Spider-Man 4 may feature The Lizard, Vulture, and Black Cat, as its villains. MovieLine is today claiming that they have an inside tip telling them that Vulture will be one of the film’s two villains, but The Lizard and Black Cat will not be appearing, although Felicia Hardy (who is Black Cat’s alter ego) will be in the film as a new villain named The Vulturess. They claim that this new villain/Felicia Hardy will be played by Anne Hathaway (Brokeback Mountain, Get Smart) and that John Malkovich (Dangerous Liaisons, Burn After Reading) will play Vulture.

Personally I have never been a big fan of the Vulture character and think that there are many better villains to choose from for the next movie, and furthermore I cannot believe this new rumor of Black Cat being turned into The Vulturess is true, »

Because A Clumsy Spy is Always Good For A Laugh, Germany's Jerry Cotton Returns!

26 November 2009 10:59 AM, PST | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

What do you think?  Could the recent success of the Get Smart remake in the Us and the Oss 117 revival in France have inspired other nations to look into their comedic pasts?  Yes, I'd say that's a safe bet ...

Bumbling German spy Jerry Cotton - actually a German spoof on a supposedly American character - first appeared in 1965 and proved to be a huge hit, the character starring in a whopping eight features in just four years before being retired after 1969's Todesschüsse am Broadway.  But all things old are new again and Cotton's coming back.

Brought back to life by the writing-directing duo of Cyrill Boss and Philipp Stennert Jerry Cotton hits German screens in 2010.  You'll find the first teaser below.
