Reno 911 creators producing new comedy for NBC

14 October 2009 2:00 PM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

It's great to see members of The State getting their due in Hollywood.

Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, founding members of the sketch comedy troupe, have been cracking me up since the early '90s when the State had its own sketch comedy show on MTV. They've been very productive since The State was canceled in 1995, starring and producing Comedy Central's hilarious Reno 911 and writing a number of films, including Night at the Museum and Balls of Fury. Now, the duo is bringing their twisted brand of comedy to NBC.

Lennon and Garant will write, produce and star in a new multicamera comedy for the network, says The Hollywood Reporter. The show is part of a talent deal NBC and Universal inked with Lennon.

NBC Signs Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant For New Series

13 October 2009 8:00 AM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Let’s be honest, everybody who had ever sat through an episode of Reno 911 in its 6 years on the air knows how heartbreaking it was when the show got canceled two months ago. The show kept the flame of MTV’s The State burning for over a decade after the show had originally aired. It looks like NBC feels the same way, as they have hired Reno creators Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant for a new comedy series.

Lennon and Garant (who played Reno’s Jim Dangle and Travis Junior respectively) signed a deal with NBC and Universal Media Studios for a pilot commitment, which means if nothing else, we will get one episode. The team will write, star, and executive produce the series.

Those who aren’t fans of Reno or The State may know the written work of Lennon and Garant from the two Night at the Museum films, »

"Dwts" Contestant Mark Dacascos Featured In Film "Only The Brave"

13 October 2009 4:28 AM, PDT | icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news »

Mark Dacascos of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" will be starring in a film from Indican Pictures. "Only the Brave" will be re-released on DVD in conjunction with the Veterans Day celebration events on November 10.

Along with Dacascos, the film also features Jeff Fahey ("Lawnmower Man," "Lost"), Jason Scott Lee ("Balls of Fury"), Tamlyn Tomita ("Joy Luck Club") and Pat Morita ("Karate Kid I, II, II"). This was the last live action film of actor Pat Morita's career.

"Only the Brave" focuses on the 100th Infantry Battalion/42nd Regimental Combat Team, a segregated World War II fighting unit entirely made up of Japanese Americans.

The 2006 independent movie uncovers the U.S. heroes who received 21 Medals of Honor, 9,486 Purple Hearts, 8 Presidential Citations, 53 Distinguished Service Crosses, 588 Silver Stars and 5,200 Bronze stars. The group of men was the most decorated unit of their size in American military history.

NBC Calls 911, Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant Answer

12 October 2009 9:31 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

“Reno 911!” was a great show that never should have lasted as long as it did.  After one of the funniest first seasons in TV history, the show struggled to maintain an identity and stretched the talents of its very talented improv performers to their absolute limits.  Head writers Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant, and Kerri Kenney-Silver were consistently the funniest and most enjoyable to watch, and now Lennon and Garant have teamed up to pen and star in a multi-camera comedy for NBC.  More after the jump.

The show’s premise is being kept secret for the time being, so all we know is that Lennon will be the principal star, with Garant in a supporting role.  The two will write and executive produce the show, and have signed a talent deal with both NBC and Universal Media Studios that will include other projects.  This is on top of the »

Exclusive Video: Fangoria @ the Tribeca premiere of Hysterical Psycho

26 April 2009 9:11 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

The Eighth Annual Tribeca Film Festival is currently in-progress in New York City (through May 3), and the Fangoria crew is out in force. While you can look for expanded reviews and coverage from the fest to roll out over the next week, we've got our first exclusive video direct from the World Premier of Hysterical Psycho.

Fango's own Michael Gingold caught up with actor Dan Fogler (Fanboys, Balls Of Fury) who donned the writer/director cap for the first time with the film. In addition, actors Ariel Shafir (Bride Wars), Noah Bean (Damages, Fringe), and Randy Baruh joined in to discuss their experiences making this satirical tale of a theatre group faced with evil in a "cabin in the woods."

Int: Fanboys stars

4 February 2009 11:55 PM, PST | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

This wasn't the first time I sat with Dan Fogler. Back when Balls Of Fury hit the silver screen, the two of us had the chance to talk. Back then I was surprised at how serious he could be. well all that changed today. While talking Fanboys, he was incredibly funny and I laughed quite a bit. Although, I barely remember what was so frickin' funny. Meanwhile, both Sam Huntington and Chris Marquette talked a lot about the lack of theatres that their film would be opening in. It seems a... »
