A remake of Boudu Saved from Drowning (1932). That film has also been remade as Down and Out in Beverly Hills (1986), with Nick Nolte in the Boudu roles. Nolte also appeared in Three Fugitives (1989), a remake of The Fugitives (1986),. Nolte took over Depardieu's role in that film as well.
