After jumping ship from "The Movie Show" on SBS- where the critical duo lived for 18 years- Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton can now be seen on the ABC, in this near-duplicate show, "At The Movies".
Rating films on a sliding scale out of five stars, the pair is notorious for their shared passion over many movies, and further, their heartfelt debating over others. ALWAYS bringing informed critiquing and genuine cinema experience to the table, Pomeranz and Stratton's interaction draws the viewer in and is almost always entertainment in itself.
Stratton is more the art house/drama connoisseur and will generally thumb his nose at anything mainstream or exploitative, while Pomeranz takes a more open approach, taking the film for what ever it is. She did, after all, nearly get arrested for publicly screening & trying to uphold the cinema goer's right to see the banned film "Ken Park". Personally I enjoy and respect Pomeranz's opinion much more so than Stratton's. I mean anyone who gives Team America one star just doesn't sit right with me.
"At The Movies" manages to cover 4 or 5 films in depth within the 30 or so minutes. For unknown reasons, sometimes promo clips which seem to contain spoilers are screened. And you get the occasional lame interview with a cast you're not really too concerned over (Casanova, anyone?) But all in all its a decent way to stack up opinion before going out to see anything.
