Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

Sex: There is one scene where a boy is beaten, restrained, and sodomized by a larger bully. It however is not an explicit scene. Sex is solicited in a scene where a Soviet soldier requires that a woman have sex with him in order for a truck to pass, but the scene never happens.

Nudity: No nudity.

Violence & Gore

There are scenes of a woman being stoned as a halftime show during a soccer match; the main character is brutally beaten by a Taliban leader. The leader also loses an eye after his servant/"nancy boy" fires a slingshot to defend the main character. Both scenes are bloody. the scenes are graphic and disturbing.

In addition, there are drops of blood dropping from a raped boy's pants into the snow after his rape.

Profanity

Three uses of the 'f' word and a couple of characters do say derogatory comments to or about people of Hazara descent. (E.g., bully making fun of a Hazara boy; the father in law of the main character is not particularly pleased with a Hazara boy coming into his family.)

There are scenes of the main character's father and his friend drinking liquor. The father also smokes.

The implicit rape scene of a boy (between 10-12 yrs old) and the stoning scene are not easy to watch. Another intense scene is when the main character is beaten by a Taliban leader.
