This adaption of J.B Priestly's classic play is surprisingly good, it looks it's age a bit, but far less so than the original film version i should imagine.
What makes this BBC Mini series stand out from the crowd is the fact that it is done in 3 parts - just like the original play, unlike the film which is a one of performance. Having the piece done in 3 parts helps the audience to see what the original play would have been like back in the 1940's when it was written and makes the piece all the more faithful the original script.
Admitedly some of the acting is rather wooden and unemotional, and sometimes the piece feels a little flat, but it's good to see An Inspector Calls in full colour glory - even if it is a little off colour because of when it was made.
If you've read the play, seen it or the film, you might be interested in this version for comparison purposes, if not it's fun to look at the hilariously out of tune score and dated BBC logo.
8/10 well done!
