Some films keep entertaining us even as the final credits roll. Here are some hidden treats at the end of 16 movies...
We've talked in the past about the current trend for stings at the end of movie credits - we once put together a list of 50 of our favourites. But that's not what this article is about. Instead, inspired by a quite wonderful scene midway through the credits of The Boxtrolls, we've been hunting around for extra goodies that you may have missed in other films. Some of these are just lines of text, others are far more substantial. But also, none of them are new or extended scenes - at least in the strictest sense.
There are inevitable spoilers for one or two things ahead, but we've tried to keep the headers as spoiler-free as possible so you can skip to the next entry if you want to. Let's start with The Boxtrolls,...

The horrific Sept. floods destroyed homes and ravaged the Boulder, Co area — and left 85 fifth-graders and 14 adults stranded at their school. The group was airlifted to safety by the National Guard and reunited with parents after being stranded at the school’s educational center for two days.
The devastating floods in Colorado affected thousands of people, including 85 school children and their teachers from Fireside Elementary School in Louisville, Colorado. The group was left stranded for two days by the flooding when water took out the roads near their outdoor center. They were airlifted to safety from the Cal-Wood Education Center on Sept. 14, following a huge successful rescue mission.

Stan Lee received the the Lifetime Achievement Award and visual effects pioneer Douglas Trumbull received the George Melies Award. Patton Oswalt hosted the event held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Antonion Banderas, Lou Ferrigno, director Chris Miller, Marc Webb, and Jennifer Yuh Nelson presented awards. But the surprise appearance by Martin Scorsese was the highlight of the evening.

The visual effects that we are seeing in movies these days are absolutely mind blowing. At this point it doesn't seem like there's any excuse for a film to have bad visual effects unless the people hired lack talent, or the studio is keeping the cash in their pockets.
There's a lot of good nomination this year such as Captain America, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Out of all of these I think that Planet of the Apes might take home the top prize, those apes were incredibly freaky looking. Weta did an amazing job with this movie, and out of all the other nominations this was the movie I was most impressed by. What are your thoughts? What movie did you think have the best visual effect in 2011?
Here's the full press release with all of the nominations:
