Incredibly accurate and entertaining!, 23 January 2005
Author: Hwood96 from Los Angeles

As an actor living and working here in L.A. I think the show covers all the bases incredibly well.

People always assume acting's an easy gig due to the "overnight discovery" stories people love to tell. But it isn't. A lot of times it seems that way due to the emphasis placed on good-looking people who seem to have zero ability (as is evident in a lot of Pop Culture people who cross over for a bit), but those moments are brief for most.

So much of the ordinary crap hopeful actors deal with on a daily basis such as; Juggling finances (for those without the benefit of sugar mommas and daddies), Stereotypes based on physical appearances, Self-doubt, Landing an agent, Getting into casting offices and so many more are dealt with and addressed accurately in this show.

The only thing a bit disappointing is the focus on people in their 20's. There are a lot of actors in their 30's who're struggling with the same issues who also have to deal with the fact that a much higher priority and need is placed on younger actors.

But I assume the folks at Section 8 (Clooney himself not hitting big until his 30's) will add that element as the series progresses.

They've managed to balance the show well by having characters at different success levels. Some are working, some are struggling. But the important thing is that everything's relative. The grass is always greener when a peer gets a gig, but you don't always realize they're dealing with stuff on their side of the fence too.

For those of you interested in coming to L.A. to seek your living as an actor and are unfamiliar with what real life's like in Hollywood, watch this show. You'll learn a lot.

It's work.

But at the end of the day it's an adventure you won't forget if you can go into it positively and maintain that positivity, even through bad times. (Which can feel, at times, like an impossibility.)

Unscripted is awesome.
