  • Anachronisms: On the ship that Burt uses to cross the Pacific in the early 1960s, the draft markings on the bow are in metric which wasn't introduced in New Zealand until the mid-70's.

  • Continuity: When the Airman and Munro are driving in the car and see the shaving signs after the last sign there is a shot of the two men in the car and out the back window no signs are visible.

  • Continuity: When Burt is racing the group of young guys towards the beginning he has on a dark tan tinted pair of goggles. But when he wrecks his bike around the turn and stands up, he has on white non-tinted goggles.

  • Anachronisms: When Burt and the Air Force guy make the left turn onto the salt flats, we see in the background the double-ended arrow indicating that the road ends and drivers must make a right or left turn. Below the double-ended arrow, we can see iconic angle arrows also pointing left and right. Arrows of this type were not introduced onto the roads until the mid-1980s.

  • Continuity: When Bert grabs two eggs from the chicken coop they are white but in the next scene they are brown.

  • Crew or equipment visible: In the scene in which Burt and the Indian are caught speeding by the state trooper, skid marks created by the cruiser in other takes are clearly visible in at least one shot.

  • Crew or equipment visible: When Burt gets into the back of the taxi in LA you can see a crew member wearing a blue coat, a hat and sunglasses reflected in the window.

  • Anachronisms: When Burt makes a left turn in his car, with Fernando as a passenger, behind them you can see modern-day vehicles parked nearby.

  • Anachronisms: In one scene, when Burt goes to Timaru in New Zealand before heading to the US, a cellphone tower can clearly be seen in the background.

  • Anachronisms: Very early in the movie when Bert drives to town to meet Sarah to ask her out, there are parking meters clearly visible outside the building. There were no parking meters in New Zealand in the 60's.

  • Anachronisms: During the cab ride to the hotel, as Burt is looking at the lights of LA, a modern-day Arby's sign passes by the window. Arby's was founded 1964 in Ohio, with the logo change in 1975.

  • Anachronisms: When Burt is in the United States the tone and type of sirens that can be heard in the background at various times are that of modern day emergency vehicles, and not from the 1960s.

  • Factual errors: Burt talks about his twin brother and tells Tom a story about how he died as a youngster. The real Burt Munro had a twin sister who died at birth.

  • Anachronisms: There is a modern (lower height, aluminum body with rounded edges, modern logo) U-Haul trailer visible in a scene at the salt flats.

  • Anachronisms: When Burt arrives at the Flamingo Hotel and is thumbing through his money to pay the cab fare, his dollar bill is clearly a Federal Reserve Note and not the silver certificate at the time. If it was important enough to show the scene, it should have been important enough to know and procure the right generation of currency. Federal Reserve Notes were not in existence until as the silver certificates were being retired, in the later 1960s.

  • Anachronisms: During the scene in the taxi at the Flamingo Motel. Watching through the back windshield. A 1956 Bel Air passes 3 or 4 times.

  • Anachronisms: In the bar on the way to Bonneville, the waitress offers Burt his choice of beers-including Coors. At the time depicted in the movie Coors was not readily available outside of Colorado, if at all.

  • Factual errors: In the movie, the nickname of one of Burt's friends is mispronounced. The friend's nickname was "Rollie". In the movie this is pronounced to rhyme with "jolly", but in real life the nickname rhymed with "holy".

  • Factual errors: When Tina Washington is giving Burt a ride to the "used car-lot", as Burt gets out of Tinas beetle, a modern (not available in 1967) CD-Player is clearly visible on the dashboard of the beetle.

  • Revealing mistakes: In the final scene when Burt unlocks the paddle lock so that he can slide the bolt to the left to open the door, the bolt was already in the unlocked position. The clasp of the paddle lock needs to go through the bracket at the end of the bolt AND the bracket directly above it if you want to lock the bolt in the closed position so that the door can not be opened.

  • Continuity: When the Challenger I is being pushed to the start line and the start of its run announced, the next shot shows it clearly parked in the background, followed by a shot of it driving down the track.
