Generic and uninteresting

Warning: Spoilers
"Running Without Sound" is a 12.5-minute short film from America. This one is from 2004, so already over a decade old, and the writer and director is Judd King. This one is still among his most known works today. This has little to do, however, with being a quality film, but is only because it is a gay-themed film and this subject was already enough to make hundreds of films on this issue way more popular than they should be. And this one here delivers the ultimate dose of cringe. The main character is a boy who is deaf, but has a strong will as he is a long-distance runner and of course he is in the closet and has a crush on one of his fellow runners. And of course, some other guys discriminate against him because of his weaknesses. It's all stereotypical and generic and does not favor to young men who are really in the closet I think. It's weird to see this rating here on IMDb and to think that many people actually thought this was an authentic watch. It is not. Most of it feels fake and when it doesn't it's just uninteresting. Major thumbs-down from me here. Not recommended at all.

Disappointing

This short is about two high school friends, who are both in the cross country team, getting attracted to each other.

"Running Without Sound" is a low budget production. It does not have enough plot even to fill 13 minutes. The mutual attraction could be explained and developed better, in order to make it more convincing. The bedroom staring scene, though shows their hesitation and anxiety, is a little too long. Though it is refreshing to include a dumb character in a short, I think the subject is not so well handled. Maybe the friends could be shown to be learning sign language to show support? Overall, I think "Running Without Sound" is a disappointing short.

not bad

the only sin - the film gives something well known from many others films about same theme. the poor boy, his friend, the desire to be the best. and the hope of the end. nothing bad. but it is only a decent film, with linear performances, with a script who could be reduced at the good intentions category and with a success who is just the reaction to the subject not for the film. short, it is one of films who are touching, nice, charming but only for short time after their end. and for who the expectation of viewer is the basic support. so, a not bad film.but not more.
