The Power Of Christ Compels 'Martha Marcy' Director Sean Durkin To Remake 'The Exorcist' As 10-Part TV Series

1 hour ago | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

If there has been one constant in "The Exorcist" franchise, it's that none of the sequels or prequels have ever come close to touching the terror or brilliance of William Friedkin's groundbreaking original. Nor have any of the countless exorcism movies since managed the feat either. But that isn't stopping another bite at the apple, as "The Exorcist" (recently named as the greatest horror movie ever by Time Out) is now getting prepped for the small screen in an expansive remake/prequel that will stretch out the terror over ten episodes. Vulture reports that "Martha Marcy May Marlene" director Sean Durkin will get his Hollywood feet wet with a ten-part television adaptation of the iconic horror movie classic for Morgan Creek. Producer Roy Lee -- who knows a thing or two about remakes with "The Grudge," "The Departed," "The Eye" and upcoming "Oldboy" under his belt -- is on board to help steer the. »

The Exorcist TV Series in Development

1 hour ago | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

According to a new report, a TV series based on The Exorcist is in development. Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene) is currently adapting the story into a 10-episode TV series and is working with producer Roy Lee (The Grudge, The Ring, The Departed).

Vulture noted that this adaptation will follow “the events leading up to a demonic possession and especially the after-effects of how a family copes with it: In short, not well (really, after you start seeing stuff like this, can you blame them?), and when medical and psychiatric explanations fail, the desperate family turns to the church, with Father Damien Karras finally brought in to attempt the exorcism.”

At this time the TV series is still in the early development stages and will not be shopped to networks for another couple of weeks. We’d imagine that most major networks would be interested in taking on this series, »

Exclusive: Martha Marcy May Marlene Director Preps Exorcist for TV

2 hours ago | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

What an excellent day for an exorcism! Nearly 40 years after The Exorcist became the first horror movie ever to be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar, Hollywood has again become possessed with William Peter Blatty’s best seller. Sean Durkin, the writer-director of last year’s excellent but criminally underseen Elizabeth Olsen thriller Martha Marcy May Marlene, is adapting the fiendish classic into a ten-episode television series, this time backed by Morgan Creek and produced by Roy Lee, the executive producer of films like The Departed and The Ring.Unlike the iconic 1973 film, Durkin’s version of The Exorcist follows the events leading up to a demonic possession and especially the after-effects of how a family copes with it: In short, not well (really, after you start seeing stuff like this, can you blame them?), and when medical and psychiatric explanations fail, the desperate family turns to the church, with »

Brendan Fraser Gets Tangled Up In Crime In Whole Lotta Sole Trailer

20 hours ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Writer-director Terry George has garnered critical acclaim and Oscar nods for his part in the creation of such harrowing biopics as In the Name of the Father and Hotel Rwanda. But for his latest effort, Whole Lotta Sole, the Northern Ireland-born filmmaker is treading familiar ground but offering a drastic while comical departure from his these heralded works. Whole Lotta Sole is an action-comedy set in Belfast, Northern Ireland, that involves culture clash, a desperate dad, and a wild web of gangsters and good guys. Brendan Fraser stars as an American shopkeeper who, by happenstance, entangles into an unlikely heist that involves robbing a fish market owned by the merciless mobster Mad Dog Flynn, played by The Departed's David O'Hara. $sb("ci030_8e5d4bb4687dd921003c37b5ee23875f",{"sbFeed":{"partnerId":39,"type":"video","contentId":495889," »

John Landis is a name people in the horror and comedy community know all too well. With films like An American Werewolf in London and Coming to America on his resume, he has reached a broad spectrum of fan bases over the years. His new film – which he’s serving as executive producer on -may not resonate with as many people as before, but it’s a nice crossover of the two genres that this horror and comedy fan is more than looking forward to. The new film is called Some Guy Who Kills People and we have the official trailer right here for you at Dtb.

At first glance you may say this looks like a low budget, straight to video, Anchor Bay release, and assume it’s probably not any good. Then look again and see that there is s pretty good cast assembled here and from the »

Robert Rodriguez Talks Sin City: A Dame to Kill For's Look and Machete Kills' Villain

21 May 2012 1:37 PM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Director Robert Rodriguez (Desperado, Spy Kids) has a busy summer of sequels planned for this year, including the long-awaited sequel to 2005's Sin City, titled Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, and Machete Kills, the follow-up to Rodriguez's 2010 fake-trailer-turned-Grindhouse-homage Machete.

Still based on co-director Frank Miller's Sin City comic books (namely, A Dame to Kill For) the Sin City sequel was written by Miller and The Departed screenwriter William Monahan. At the Cannes Film Festival, Rodriguez told Empire that the sequel will continue the stylistic look of the original and could look even more like Miller's original comic book artwork.

I really held back the first time, because I didn’t know whether audiences would go for it. So it ended up looking like a real movie, but in black and white, with a few flourishes. This one is going to push way further towards the books. »

Sin City 2 Gets October 2013 Release, Mickey Rourke & Jessica Alba Return

21 May 2012 11:02 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The long-awaited sequel to Sin City, titled “Sin City: A Dame To Kill For”, will be released on October 4th 2013. Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba have both signed on to reprise their characters, Marv and barmaid Nancy Callahan respectively.

Rodriguez has been trying for years to produce a sequel to the 2005 film, which saw him adapt three storylines from Frank Miller’s graphic novel series of the same name, with Miller sharing writing and directing duties. That film starred a large A-list cast, including Bruce Willis, Clive Owen, Elijah Wood, Rosario Dawson, Josh Hartnett and Michael Madsen, and interweaved the three stories, The Hard Goodbye, The Big Fat Kill, and That Yellow Bastard, into one narrative. The film was well-received both commercially and critically.

Speaking to Empire, Rodriguez states that the film will be even more stylised than the first, aiming to more closely translate Miller’s work to the »

Ray Winstone Recalls Grief Of Mother's Death

21 May 2012 9:11 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actor Ray Winstone has opened up about his mother's death for the first time, recalling how he bottled up his grief for a year before breaking down in tears during a car journey.

The Departed star lost his mum to cancer in the 1980s but has always avoided discussing the tragedy at length in interviews.

Now he's revealed the devastating loss still haunts him to this day and has left a "hole" in his life.

Winstone tells Britain's Daily Mail Weekend magazine, "She was ill for two years. It's a very cruel disease. They have remissions and you think they're getting better... I was filming (TV series) Robin of Sherwood when she went into a coma. I knew without anyone telling me. I said, 'I've got to go home.'

"She woke up and I spent all day with her talking about all the things I didn't know. It's funny how things like that work. I'm glad for that day - just that one day. I don't know what it would have been like without that. She died the next day. I was the first one in the hospital. I was driving there when she died so I didn't know until I got there. I sat down with her.

"I felt for a long while that I'd lost something that day, emotionally. I never cried until a year later when I was driving and just had to pull over. I went bang. That was done then, but I'd had that inside me for a year.

"There was an anger. You feel it's unfair and start blaming everyone. I felt for a long while that I had something missing. I obviously had my mum missing, but I mean something missing in me. A hole."

Asked if the hole is still there, the actor replies, "Sometimes." »

And since the film is expected to go back and forth in time, in prequel/sequel fashion, more of the cast might be back than you might first think.

William Monahan, the Oscar-winning writer of The Departed and the upcoming Oblivion, starring Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, has penned the script alongside Rodriguez and Miller, so fans of the original can sleep soundly in the knowledge that it’s all in very, »

Kristen Stewart Hot: Snow White Premiere

Kristen Stewart becomes a sultry vampire in the last Twilight movie, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. How sultry? How vampiresque? Just check out the Kristen Stewart photo on the right, taken at the Snow White and the Huntsman World Premiere held in London earlier this week. The Kristen Stewart dress is described as a "Gothic lace Marchesa" in The Hollywood Reporter. And whether or not you care for how celebrities dress (and I couldn’t give a damn), Stewart’s garment was a memorable fashion statement. The makeup has no description that I’ve seen, but it’s, huh, a memorable makeup statement all the same. As part of the Snow White and the Huntsman promo, the Swath team also posed for pictures at the Arundel Castle in West Sussex, England. Snow White (Kristen Stewart) showed up in a miniskirt, accompanied by the Evil Queen (Charlize Theron), the cleaned-up »
