What's so funny about a warehouse that the government stores its top secrets? Viewers will apparently find out as the SciFi Channel's new executive producer Jack Kenny is named showrunner for "Warehouse 13" as it begins production of its first season. Kenny, a producer on such series such as "Caroline in the City," "Titus" and "Wanda At Large," will take on his second project with David Simkins, who also joined as an executive producer. The two last worked on "Book of Daniel," the highly controversial and short-lived NBC series that aired in 2006 that Kenny created. The series, which begins production next February in Toronto, was created by "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Battlestar Galactica" writer Jane Espenson, "Farscape" creator Rockne O'Bannon, and writer D. Brent ...

The stunning mid-season finale to Battlestar Galactica's fourth and final year left both characters and viewers utterly speechless. The Context Starbuck is compelled to inspect her Viper craft and finds a signal, complete with coordinates, that she believes originates from Earth. Despite a nasty hostage situation between D'Anna's rebel faction of Cylons and the Galactica fleet, both parties agree to join forces in a mission to find Earth. However, no-one is prepared for what they will find upon arrival... The Moment As the harsh winds swirl around them, Admiral Adama, President Roslin and D'Anna survey the desolate landscape with a look of abject horror. "Earth," mutters Roslin, as Geiger counters measure a high level of radioactivity in the barren soil. Cylons and Capricans - including Starbuck, Apollo and Baltar - walk among the ruins, but none (more)

Battlestar Galactica actor Jamie Bamber has claimed that the show could have become a huge mainstream hit like Doctor Who if treated differently. Bamber, who plays Lee 'Apollo' Adama in the critically-acclaimed drama, told Metro: "[Battlestar] is only cult because it's been stuck on Sky One and not pushed. In America it's on the Sci Fi Channel, which has a stigma to it. If it was on a mainstream channel it would be as big as Doctor Who or (more)

News broke earlier this week that the CW was developing a new series based around the first Robin titled The Graysons. The show, set to focus on Dick "DJ" Grayson in his pre-Robin years, has been reported as a possible replacement for Smallville should Clark Kent's pre-Superman adventures conclude at the end of this season.
Not so, say Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders, executive producers on Smallville and now hard at work behind the scenes on The Graysons. They issued a statement over at KryptonSite that clears the air of their intentions on developing the new series.
Says the pair:
"As news and rumors swirl around the development of The Graysons for the CW, we have every intention of letting you, our fans, be the first to know the reality. Never have we been so committed to the continuing success of Smallville as we are to seasons 8 and 9. While we

George Lucas has found a director for his long talked about fighter pilot movie. Red Tails is the story of the Tuskegee Airmen overcoming racism in World War II to become the first black fighter pilots in American history. At one point Lucas was actually rumored to be considering Samuel L. Jackson to direct it. Instead Variety says he's hired Anthony Hemingway. Hemingway's directorial career has been spent entirely on television, behind episodes of shows like CSI, ER, and Battlestar Galactica. He only did one episode of BSG, but perhaps that gives him at least a little experience dealing with fighter pilots, of a sort. Whether it's in outer space shooting robots or flying through cumulous clouds on Earth to shoot Nazis, fighter pilots are all the same amped up adrenaline junkies. The movie's title comes from the paint job on the planes of the Tuskegee Airmen. Their aircraft all

Review by: K. Thor Jensen Slime monsters get a bum rap. Sure, there’s a certain visceral horror to the idea of being enveloped by an endless wave of goo, but once people figure out that the monster is vulnerable to cold, or heat, or whatever slime monsters are vulnerable to these days, they seem to piss off with little to no fanfare. 2008 horror cheapie Something Beneath tries to jazz things up a bit with a little twist – the slime monsters are psychoactive. Yes, if you come into contact with the thing – some sort of lab-created superorganism – you will hallucinate your deepest, darkest fears! Mine involves a DVD player and this very movie, if you’re wondering. Originally made for the Sci Fi Channel, Something Beneath sums up the worst of their moviemaking philosophy – why shell out for more Battlestar Galactica when you can get Z-list actors emoting about slime?

I was really excited to hear that The Edmonton International Film Festival was planning on kicking things off with a screening of Bruce McDonald's zombie flick Pontypool this year. I consider it a step in the right direction for my little town as well as for Canadian cinema in general but, perhaps you'll hear more about that later as, for now, it's story time.
I was in pretty good spirits as I entered the theatre early last night. I had just received word that my press credentials for the fest had gone through and, knowing that my quickly depleting bank funds wouldn't be standing in the way of watching tons of films all week, put a smile on my face. I even talked the Eiff press team into sneaking me a second media pass

With True Blood earning good ratings and second season order, the producers are expanding the cast with the addition of four new regulars.
Mehcad Brooks, Todd Lowe, Deborah Ann Woll, and Michelle Forbes have already appeared as occasional participants this season and the quartet has been upgraded to series regulars.
Brooks will debut as Benedict "Eggs" Talley, a mellow, guitar-strumming refugee from a hard life in the season finale later this fall.
Forbes is best known for her work on Star Trek: The Next Generation as Ensign Ro and as Admiral Cain in the revamped Battlestar Galactica.

Reader, beware!

Back in April 2008, I had thrown out my conjecture on who the last Cylon is in the upcoming final season of Battlestar Galactica on the Sci-Fi Channel. Screen Rant readers came through in droves and offered up many ideas and suggestions. I was humbled at your participation and it was awesome to see some of your ideas, and entertaining to see others. For instance, I’m going way out on a limb and saying Jack Black is not the last Cylon.

Some of you presented fantastic reasoning behind your thoughts. The pitchman in the Apple ads has told Wired that he will guest star on Battlestar Galactica as a doctor. The Daily Show regular said, “Well, I always had this desire to celebrate and somehow be a part of things that I thought were really great. When I wrote about Battlestar Galactica for The New York Times Magazine in 2005, I was mainly geeking out about the fact that I was standing on the set, you know? So it was very unnerving and surreal to go from being the guy who wrote about Galactica to making a cameo appearance as a doctor in an upcoming episode.”

This story contains MAJOR SPOILERS for the final episodes of "Battlestar Galactica." Was Aaron Douglas pulling the legs of two radio personalities about the end of "Battlestar Galactica," or was he telling the truth? Be warned before you keep reading, because a source says Douglas is right on with his information. According to Ain't It Cool News, Douglas -- who plays Galen Tyrol on the SciFi Channel series -- said that fans don't have to wonder if the humans will ever have a chance to visit the Cylon homeworld. That's because they've already seen it. "You did at the end of the middle of Season 4," Douglas told Cort and Fatboy on KUFO-FM. "Earth, in the scriptures, is the Cylon homeworld. Yeah, they say they found evidence, they found other people, and they're all Cylon. Or they ...

Ronald D. Moore, the man behind the critically acclaimed "Battlestar Galactica," is trying to catch that bolt of lightning in his bottle twice with a potentially new Fox series known as "Virtuality," but questions are popping up more and more about where the story idea may have originated. An alert SyFy Portal reader in Finland, described as a "Battlestar" fan, did some research on "Virtuality," a show set aboard a long-duration starship known as the Phaeton, making a 10-year journey to a star, and entertaining its crew through a virtual reality system and keep them sane, which works great until a flaw is discovered in the system. That concept, however, bears a striking resemblance to a 2005 novel written by Joe Haldeman known as "Old Twentieth," a story that takes place on a starship ...

Nothing to report on the "Battlestar Galactica" spinoff "Caprica," but the SciFi Channel has finally made a decision on its proposed "Warehouse 13" series. The network ordered 11 hours of the series, which along with a previously produced pilot, will give it a cable-standard 13-episode order for the first season. Production on the series is expected to begin in February, and will take place in Toronto, gearing for a July premiere. The show starts Eddie McClintock, Joanne Kelly and Saul Rubinek, and focuses on two Secret Service agents working in a top-secret storage facility in South Dakota after saving the life of the president. McClintock and Kelly play those agents, who are tasked by Rubinek's character to chase down more artifacts to include in the warehouse, in sort of a reverse ...

Donald Borcher's Children of the Corn remake (can we really call movies based on book remakes?) is currently rolling in Iowa, but news on who's appearing in the film has been slow. Preston Bailey and Daniel Newman are playing Isaac and Malachai, but where are the adults?
THR helped us out there with news that Kandyse McClure of "Battlestar Galactica" and David "Heroes" Anders have joined the cast as a troubled couple attempting to rekindle their relationship with a second honeymoon. Too bad they end up in Malachai's territory. OUTLANDER!!!
Expect a set report from us next week, and Children of the Corn will premiere on the Sci-Fi Channel in 2009!

Remakes aren't just happening on the big screen, people. They're happening on the little screen too. The Sci Fi Channel recently added former British Samurai David Anders, Battlestar Galactica cutie Kandyse McClure, Preston Bailey and Daniel Newman to the cast of their CHILDREN OF THE CORN remake. In the film, McClure and Anders star as a couple who decide to go on a driving trip as sort of a second honeymoon and somehow end up in a rural community with some freaky ass children. Bailey will...

Since the close of the printed guide, here are the late additions to the festival lineup:
Vinyan (dir. Fabrice du Welz, 2008, France)
Fabrice du Welz's follow up to the brutal Calvaire (Fantastic Fest official selection 2005) was one of the most wildly anticipated films in the genre fan community this year. The film recently world-premiered at Venice and is now heading to Austin for it's Us Premiere. Vinyan is a controversial and harrowing journey into the spiritual darkness that envelops two grieving parents as they search Thailand and Burma against all hope for their son, whom they believe may have survived the giant Indian Ocean tsunami disaster.

For the second year in a row, "Battlestar Galactica" has won for television's best special effects from the Emmy awards. The team of Gary Hutzel, Michael Gibson, David Takemura, Doug Drexler, Kyle Toucher, Sean Jackson, Pierre Drolet, Aurore De Blois and Derek Ledbetter won for their work in the "Battlestar Galactica" episode "He That Believeth In Me," the fourth season premiere on SciFi Channel. However, that wasn't the only award "Battlestar" walked away with. The fourth featurette of the telemovie "Razor," which consisted of scenes that were edited out of the final cut of the direct-to-dvd film starring Michelle Forbes, won for Outstanding Special Class -- Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Programs. Those responsible for that featurette were executive producers Ronald D. ...

Updating two of this week’s stories, Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly has reported that Katee Sackhoof’s schedule has forced her to give up her multi-episode commitment to Nip/Tuck. She had hoped to film this after finishing her Battlestar Galactica telefilm, now in production, and the beginning of shooting the pilot to Lost & Found for NBC. She has been replaced by Rose McGowan who will film her episodes while training to begin the October shooting of Red Sonja.
Across the pond, the BBC has told Digital Spy that Paul McGann will not reprise his role as the eighth doctor in one of the 2009 Doctor Who specials. "There is no truth to the story at all,” they tersely told the site. Stay tuned for developments.
