This movie is a Mexican remake of the classic Hollywood musical The Barkleys of Broadway (1949), where a famous stage dancer decides to break up her successful partnership with her husband in order to pursue a career as a dramatic actress. In this version, the couple are a pair of nightclub singers who specialize in Mexican folk music; an Italian businesswoman lures him into becoming an opera star, while a Spanish impresario convinces her to sing flamenco songs in a revue. Demetrio González plays the Fred Astaire role, Rosa de Castilla took on the Ginger Rogers part, and Eulalio González portrayed the "conciliator" character originated by Oscar Levant in the original film.
