I recently saw this film in London.

Saw this film in London at the premiere, was a real breath of fresh air to say the least. It was funny, charming and had a typically British Northern humour to it. The style is similar to that of Spinal Tap and Best in Show, with its mocumentary style following the lead character Corbin West as he try's to make a sci-fi movie in Sheffield. One of the best bits involves an ageing painter and his Wolf picture. The acting was very naturalistic and convincing considering this fake documentary approach, apparently the budget was so low that even the director's family stars in it, including his dad as a stuntman. Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but for me it was a laugh from beginning to end. Catch it if you can!

Warning: Spoilers
"Take me to your leader" is a mockumentary dealing with an elderly loser who tries to pave his way to glory by directing a sci-fi-film with a crew mixed of experienced film professionals and locals recruited by himself.

First of all, I always find it quite hard to watch a mockumentary when you know that fact before, simply because it is rather hard to forget that what you see is not really happening. In this case, though, what bothers me and keeps me from rating it higher, is that it doesn't feel real. Ecerything that happens is just too absurd to happen in reality and at this point I ask myself, why a mockumentary and not simply a comedy? For me it is especially the thin line between possible realism and humor that marks a great mockumentary, and in this case, the line is crossed on several occasions. Otherwise the film has its moments and I'm sure there will be people who match with its humor and have a great time watching it.

All in all I was a bit disappointed, but that doesn't necessarily make it a bad movie. Give it a try and decide for yourself.
