Oh, hey, look, it’s another would-be movie franchise about hunky/pretty teens (played by twenty-somethings) in a dystopian future based on a popular Ya book series! Blood from a stone, Hollywood! Squeeze that blood from the stone before it dries up — then squeeze it some more! Anyhoo. Here’s your first look at the trailer for director Wes Ball’s “The Maze Runner.” And yes, in case you were wondering, it does indeed feature a maze. A big ass maze, in fact. And kids running around it. Thus — maze runner. Or, runners. So, no false advertising there, I guess. When Thomas ( Dylan O’Brien) wakes up trapped in a massive maze with a group of other boys, he has no memory of the outside world other than strange dreams about a mysterious organization known as W.C.K.D. Only by piecing together fragments of his past with clues...

Today? Today is a very good day. News has come that one of the single greatest film masterpieces ever is on its way to Blu-ray high definition, and it has us grinning from ear-to-metallic-ear!
Harry over at Ain't it Cool just broke the glorious news that Kino will be releasing Fritz Lang's highly influential landmark film Metropolis onto Blu-raylater this year.
For thousands of people around the globe, Moroder’s Metropolis was their introduction to the films of Fritz Lang, and many have been waiting to see this film re-released -- with improved sound and image quality. This is it!
This “version” of Metropolis comes with music by Freddie Mercury, Pat Benatar, Bonnie Tyler, Moroder, and many other famous 1980s acts, and we’re confident that interest is very high on this title. Metroopolis is Kino Lorber’s all-time best selling film – by a wide margin – and just the...

The star of the “Resident Evil” movies and the upcoming “Three Musketeers” (both with her hubby and baby’s daddy Paul W.S. Anderson) recently told fans that she thinks (she doesn’t know for sure, apparently) that the title of the fifth “Resident Evil” movie will be none other than, “Resident Evil: Blood from a Stone”. As in, they’re going to squeeze all the money out of the franchise until they can’t get anymore. Just kidding! I know you kids love this franchise, don’t get your panties into a bunch. I’m a fan, too, but come on, I couldn’t help it. They’ve made four of these things, after all, and each one seems more ridiculous than the next. I imagine the fifth one will be nothing but slow-motion fights with giant zombies in bathroom showers, but maybe that’s just me being all optimistic again.

The collective sigh you might’ve heard echoing around Times Square last night was the sound of scores of journalists reacting to the news that Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark was officially postponed for the third time. (Its new opening date is March 15, a.k.a. the ill-omened Ides of March). But there was also plenty to smile about this week in the theater world, as several new productions with high-profile stars got respectable marks from EW’s critics.

The opening of Ethan Hawke's off-Broadway play "Blood From a Stone" has been pushed back six days to allow the stars of the show extra time to rehearse. The production was due to officially launch on January 6, but playwright Tommy Nohilly and director Scott Elliott have been forced to rework the script after recent previews of the comedy drama, about a troubled working class family in Connecticut, ran for over three hours.
"Blood From a Stone" will now open on January 12 at the Acorn Theatre, according to the New York Times. It won't be the "Training Day" star's first foray onto the New York stage - he's previously earned a Tony Award nomination for his starring role in a 2006 production of Tom Stoppard's "The Coast of Utopia", and he received further praise for his performance in Shakespeare play "The Winter's Tale" last year.

The opening of Blood From a Stone, a new off-Broadway play starring Ethan Hawke, has been delayed a week. The Jan. 6 debut was pushed to Jan. 12 "to give the actors more time to absorb script revisions," notes the New York Times.
The play had been running over three hours in previews last week. Playwright Tommy Nohilly and director Scott Elliott trimmed 15 minutes off the production and the extra preview time will allow the show to gel, according to Elliott.
Blood From a Stone also stars Gordon Clapp and Natasha Lyonne.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes featurette (the first of many, in all likelihood) for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1″, the first of the two-parter franchise finale. Yup, after this and Part 2, there won’t be any more “Harry Potter” movies whatsoever. Oh who are we kidding, I’m sure there will be spin-off movies and TV shows and what have you. Blood from a stone and all that. Hollywood isn’t just going to let poor Harry Potter die even after all the books have ben translated. That just ain’t how it works, folks. Starring Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes, Alan Rickman, Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Tom Felton, Jamie Campbell Bower, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith, Bonnie Wright, Jason Isaacs, Timothy Spall, Michael Gambon, Rupert Grint, John Hurt, and directed by David Yates. Ethan Hawke's been an Interpol agent, a philosophizing dream-walker, a vampire with a conscience, a good-guy cop, a bad-guy cop and all sorts of other things in his career. Violinist is a new one though.
Variety reports that Hawke has joined the cast of director Yaron Zilberman's "A Late Quartet." He'll star as a depressed second violinist who feels he doesn't spend enough time in the spotlight. Some marital infidelity ensues and Hawke's character is left feeling miserable as a result of his actions. Serves him right. After that, the actor will be returning to the theatrical stage for a pair of upcoming productions: "Blood From a Stone" and "The Numbers Station."...

President Obama may know that Lindsay Lohan is in the clink, but although Natasha Lyonne says her heart goes out to the blighted actress, she is trying not to think about it. Five years after her own meltdown made headlines and was mercilessly picked over by Gawker jackals, she is working, relatively content and a total scream to talk to.
Lyonne is following up her role as Deborah (that's Deh-bor-ah) Tennis, a deranged theater manager-turned-director of stylish snuff films in "All About Evil" (a horror romp directed by San Francisco camp guru -- and drag queen -- Joshua Grannell), with a couple of theater gigs, one an eight-month stint, the longest commitment she has ever made. "Knowing that I'm going to be able to show up is insane to me," she says, adding that she's hoping that she will emerge from the New Group production of "Blood From a Stone...

Maybe Sam Raimi should have taken this same route instead of waiting so long that he ended up getting the boot from the “Spider-Man” franchise when he came back for part four, despite the mega disappointment of part three. I’m talking about bailing on a franchise after three straight movies. According to uber producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, he feels that for “Transformers” director Michael Bay and himself, the third part is most likely the last one, though of course the studio will keep on going. Blood from a stone and all that. It may not be the end of the line of Transformers for Hasbro and Paramount, but I would think so. (For) Michael, I’m sure it is. He’s spent a lot of years working on one thing. It certainly makes sense for Bay to leave the franchise after the third one. What else is there to do?...
