Hannah Marks started acting when she was 6 years old, after seeing her mother’s acting reel. And she’s pretty much worked nonstop, from roles in the films “Accepted” and “The Runaways” to the cast of “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.” In fact, just last year she took her first vacation — though she confesses to recording several self-tapes during it.
In recent years, she has also made a (forgive me) mark behind the camera as a filmmaker, beginning with writing and directing “After Everything,” The indie film starred Jeremy Allen White as a young man diagnosed with bone cancer who embarks on a new relationship, premiering at the SXSW Film Festival in 2018.
That same year, she landed the coveted directing job of the film adaptation of John Green’s beloved novel “Turtles All the Way Down.” The story focuses on a teenage girl named Aza (Isabela Merced) struggling with...

Thank goodness Justin Long has stuck around. After breaking out in the frightfully gross road movie “Jeepers Creepers” and popping in aughts comedies like “Dodgeball” and “Accepted,” the 45-year-old has been on screen long enough to be getting genre-movie roles tailor-made for him — or at least uniquely suited to his strength — playing (not so) “nice guys” in all their dishonesty.

If you were a movie-goer growing up in the early 2000s, you probably appreciate Justin Long. And you certainly should, given how underrated he is. Perhaps it’s not that he hasn’t done enough, but it feels like he doesn’t get talked about nearly as much as he should be. Just a little recap of some of his best performances, you early 2000s kids (including me) might remember him best as the gawkish teenager Justin in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. If that didn’t show his comedic chops as an actor, his signature leading role was Bartleby Gaines in Accepted, which

Obviously, there is no replacing House of the Dragon‘s cultural impact so HBO is looking for some singles in November, rather than the homerun. Things get started on in promising fashion on Nov. 3. That date sees the premiere of Titans season 4 and the interesting true crime documentary Low Country: The Murdaugh Dynasty. It’s always fun to find one of your favorite actors in a horror movie. It’s especially fun to notice an actor in an upcoming horror movie, move to check their IMDb and notice a litany of other horror movies you’d maybe forgotten they starred in. But to go and watch all of said actors horror movies in sequential order? I know, I know. Somebody better stop me because I’m a wild person with no regard for danger. C’mon, let’s get nuts.
Justin Long is the subject of this completist exercise in honor of his not one but two recently released horror movies: Barbarian (In theaters) and House of Darkness (Currently available for rent on VOD). I’ve always considered him an underrated and charismatic actor with the ability to walk the line between “cool guy” and “total dork” as they are so often the same in real life.

Writer-director Hannah Marks, who got her start acting in projects like Accepted, Weeds, Necessary Roughness and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, made her feature directorial debut with After Everything, which she also wrote. And she directed another film that she wrote, Mark, Mary & Some Other People, before she directed Don’t Make Me Go, which is currently streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video.
For Marks, directing a film she didn’t write was something she “really enjoyed.”
“It was a great experience, because I got to have an outside perspective on the material, and it was really fun to get to riff on the material that already existed,” Marks tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We did some improv and played around a bit because everyone was so collaborative that was involved.”
But that doesn’t mean making Don’t Make Me Go wasn’t without its challenges.

Before she hit her sweet 16, Hannah Marks had already lined up an impressive array of acting credits for a rising young performer: an arc on “Weeds,” appearing as Justin Long’s little sis in comedy “Accepted,” and stints on series like “Ugly Betty,” “Criminal Minds,” and “Private Practice.” But what she really wanted to do was direct. And write. And keep acting, too. What she really wanted to do was everything.

Documentaries rarely turn out as originally conceived. They evolve once the cameras roll — unexpected characters may emerge or new facts come to light. It’s in the nature of an unscripted artform.
But in the case of the new film Accepted, that documentary truism reached an extreme. Director Dan Chen and producers Jason Y. Lee and Jesse Einstein thought they were embarking on a film with a predictable narrative when things suddenly and dramatically changed.
“The proverbial shit hit the fan,” says Lee.

The private K-12 school gained fame for viral videos that showed an anxious student in front of a laptop, surrounded by classmates, awaiting word on whether they had been accepted at Harvard, Yale,...

A new documentary observes the warped system of college admissions through the eyes of four minority students at a scandal-ridden school in Louisiana
The viral videos all had the same format: a black student sits at a nondescript table, nervously hovering over a laptop, surrounded by a phalanx of mostly black students, phone cameras at the ready to capture the moment. When the students from Tm Landry, an unorthodox private high school in rural Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, see the acceptance emails – to Harvard, Dartmouth, Wellesley and other top-tier universities not usually open to working-class, minority students – they erupt into cheers, a euphoric mass grasping at the student who got the golden ticket.
Tm Landry, founded by married couple Mike and Tracey Landry in their kitchen in 2005, produced several of these videos in 2016 and 2017, drawing national media attention. The videos, stitched together in the early minutes of Accepted, a new documentary...

"Remember - you control your own destiny." Greenwich Entertainment has revealed an official trailer for a documentary film titled Accepted, which originally premiered at last year's Tribeca Film Festival. The film also stopped by the San Diego Asian Film Festival and Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, and will be available to watch online this summer. The film is about a place known as T.M. Landry, an unconventional prep school in Louisiana. They've received national attention for sending its graduates to elite universities with a 100 acceptance rate. However, when an explosive NY Times exposé (read it here) rocks the school, students face uncertain futures and must decide for themselves what they are willing to do to be accepted. The film follows four students poised to excel before the exposé threatens to derail their futures. This trailer starts out so cheerful and uplifting, then gets intense at the end. Then that silence.

The title from Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley was published by Random House imprint Ballantine Books in 2014. It centers on Katie Clay, who receives the power to fix her past mistakes by writing them down in a notebook, eating a mushroom and falling asleep. Clay subsequently becomes too eager to fix every little aspect of her life and before long, her newfound ability begins to create ever-new problems that threaten not only to take her further and further from the life she initially had, but the very fabric of time and space itself.
Edgar Wright—who helmed the beloved 2010 film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, based on O’Malley’s graphic novels—adapted the screenplay and will produce the new film alongside three-time Oscar nominee Marc Platt.

Excusive: Greenwich Entertainment said Monday that it has acquired North American distribution rights to Accepted, the feature documentary from The Disunited States of America helmer Dan Chen that played at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival.
The pic, from Concordia Studio, Boardwalk Pictures, Diamond Docs and Jubilee Media, will now get a July 1 release date in theaters.
Accepted goes inside the high-stakes quest for elite college admissions and centers on Tm Landry Prep School in Louisiana, which boasted a remarkable 100 college acceptance rate for its ambitious, underprivileged high school students. That was before a New York Times exposé detailing Landry’s methods led the school to buckle under the scrutiny, leaving its students’ fates in limbo.
Deadline bowed a first-look clip of the film ahead of its Tribeca bow last year.

There are a lot of college movies out there and a lot of them are hilarious or meaningful, or both. Accepted is one of those that has kind of skated by while some people notice and others let it slip past without trying to understand what the movie is all about. To be fair, it’s a college movie, and that’s about all that needs to be said since there is a formula that goes into these movies that is easy to predict most times. But Accepted does differentiate itself in a way that makes a lot of sense but challenges

Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson’s “Summer of Soul,” released nationwide in theaters July 2 and simultaneously on Hulu’s streaming service, is the latest in a series of high-profile documentaries from L.A.-based Concordia Studio since it formally launched early last year.
Concordia snagged a quarter of the 16 slots in the 2020 U.S. documentary competition at Sundance and landed a then record-breaking deal for Jesse Moss and Amanda McBaine’s “Boys State” with A24 and Apple TV. Garrett Bradley’s “Time,” which like “Boys State” won an award at Sundance, was picked up by Amazon Studios and went on to become nominated for an Oscar. Ramona S. Diaz’s “A Thousand Cuts,” meanwhile, won a Gotham Award.
Not to be outdone, “Summer of Soul” scored two awards at Sundance this year, and broke “Boys State’s” record distribution deal, nabbing more than $12 million from Disney-owned Searchlight and Hulu, the most ever...

Goofball specialist Justin Long stars in this likable tale about a young lecturer who causes uproar when he publicly humiliates one of his students
A young creative writing lecturer in New York listens impatiently to a young woman reading her story aloud in class: a so-so piece about a date. He gets her to admit in front of the other students that this is based on an actual experience in her life and there must be a more interesting, true story behind her insipid fiction that she is not revealing. Shyly, nervously, the young woman agrees. He impulsively demands that she tell everyone what it is. She shakes her head, blushes and looks down. But the professor won’t take no for an answer – and finally, not wanting to be artistically dishonest or a bad student, the woman explains that she took her date back to her place where he...

College party movies have long held on to the idea that college is the best time ever — cue some drunk guy in the background screaming, “I love college!” before falling backwards into a frat house hedge or similar — from the “Revenge of the Nerds” franchise and “Animal House” to more modern entries like “Van Wilder” and “Accepted.” But what about the fun-loving college students who can’t quite have a good time with all that new-found freedom?
Such an idea seems to be the starting point for Cooper Raiff’s SXSW winner “S#!%house”, which follows just such a guy (Raiff himself) as he stumbles his way through a lonely, decidedly un-fun freshman year at college.
In his glowing SXSW review of the film, IndieWire’s David Ehrlich noted that it was a shame the film “didn’t get a chance to screen at this year’s SXSW, because this...

The scandal, which first made headlines in March, involved multiple celebrity parents, including Loughlin (Fuller House) and Felicity Huffman (American Crime), though neither are mentioned directly in Lifetime’s official synopsis:

Exclusive: Jason Bateman has set a deal with Netflix to direct an untitled action comedy script by Game Night and Accepted screenwriter Mark Perez. Bateman will produce with Michael Costigan through their Aggregate Films banner, teaming with Jeff Kirschenbaum and Joe Roth. Casting is underway but Bateman will not star in it.
Bateman staked Aggregate to a first look deal last summer, after the productive relationship he has enjoyed through two seasons of Ozark, and Arrested Development. Aggregate became one of several Netflix talent deals that range from Shonda Rhimes and Ryan Murphy on the TV side, to Adam Sandler, Ian Bryce, Matt Reeves, and Bryan Unkeless and Eric Newman.
The goal was to give Bateman and Costigan a home to generate film and TV. They aren’t saying anything specific about the new film, but the deal is done and it is on a fast track.

Well, I have to tell you that unless you are some kind of a die-hard snob, you will probably find Game Night (2018) far more entertaining than the average board game. Moreover, it is the perfect alternative if you want to persuade your friends to do something different on Saturday night. And if you happen to be a game buff, then this smart crime-thriller-comedy-mystery mash-up is right for you.
In a recent Q&A session on Reddit, the directors of Game Night (who by the way are huge fans of the board games) admitted that they make movies based on their own taste. In other words, they create films that they would love to watch themselves. They like to make the most fun out of this whole filmmaking thing. This is just one of the reasons Game Night turned out to be a huge success in the box-office.

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for their upcoming action/comedy ‘Game Night’, and it surely delivers–at least from a comedic perspective. We’ve seen a good look at the film in it’s previous trailer, but this trailer not only ratchets ups the comedy, but also the tension as we see stars Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams get caught up into shenanigans, forcing them into the expected comedic situations.
What makes this trailer so noteworthy is that it is the latest film from newly tapped ‘Flashpoint‘ directors John Francis Daleyand Jonathan Goldstein. Although the duo’s comedy instinct was showcased in the less-than stellar ‘Vacation’ reboot, their knack for comedy with a heart manifested itself wonderfully in their screenplay for ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming‘. This film, however was scripted by Mark Perez (Accepted) and in addition to McAdams and Bateman, the film stars Kyle Chandler, Lamorne Morris, Jesse Plemons,...

Another funny trailer has been released for the great looking dark comedy Game Night, which stars Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, Kyle Chandler and Michael C. Hall. The story features a group of friends getting together for a little murder mystery game night that takes a deadly turn when the host is actually kidnapped. This takes the group of friends on a wild adventure to try and rescue him. I'm really hoping that this movie brings on the laughs. The latest trailer is packed full of new footage that I think you'll all enjhoy.

Bateman and McAdams star as Max and Annie, whose weekly couples game night gets kicked up a notch when Max’s charismatic brother, Brooks (Chandler), arranges a murder mystery party, complete with...

This first trailer for the new comedy Game Night had me busting up laughing! I loved what I saw in this trailer and this actually looks like it could be a hilarious movie. The month of June has been flying by quicker than I can even believe, as we’re already a week out from the end of the 2017 Dances With Films festival, which took over the historic Chinese Theater in Los Angeles earlier this month. During Dwf, I had the opportunity to catch several intriguing genre films, including Devil’s Whisper, Inheritance, Imitation Girl, and Central Park, and here’s a summary of my thoughts on these four flicks:
Devil’s Whisper: There are a few aspects that I enjoyed about Devil’s Whisper, but unfortunately in the end, a somewhat predictable conclusion coupled with some hokey dialogue ends up derailing the supernatural story from becoming anything beyond “it’s fine.”
Co-writer/director Adam Ripp admirably takes the road left traveled in Devil’s Whisper (especially in relation to other recent possession-related movies), as we follow a teenager named Alex (Luca Oriel...

Robin Lord Taylor is an American film and television actor and director. He has recently emerged as a highly sought after actor in some popular shows and films. In particular, his portrayal of the Penguin (Oswald Cobblepot) in Gotham has earned him significant praise from fans, critics, and cast members. He has even been singled out as one of the most universally loved aspects of the show. His popular work also includes the 2006 comedy Accepted, in which he played Abernarthy Darwin Dunlap. Although he has risen to fame in the past several years, Taylor has acted professionally since 2005.

I don’t think that Jonah Hill quite gets the appreciation that he deserves within the industry. Yes, he’s been cited by Oscar twice with Academy Award nominations in Best Supporting Actor (the first for Moneyball and the second for The Wolf of Wall Street) and has anchored a hugely successful comedy franchise, but still, he comes off as under-appreciated. Perhaps when he makes his directorial debut in a year or so that will change, but for now, he’s still underrated in my book. This week, he has a new film out in War Dogs, which could be another hit on his resume. He also has last week’s successful Sausage Party, an animated movie in which he is one of the voices. He certainly keeps busy, right? For those of you who are curious, War Dogs is dramedy about two young men who became unlikely gun runners.

Kevin Smith has made a name for himself with his edgy films, which feature his own unique ear for dialogue and off-the-wall premises. Recently, he has written and directed a trilogy of horror-comedies dubbed the “True North trilogy”; the first film in the series was “Tusk,” about a missing podcaster who gets turned into a walrus, which received mixed reviews. The next film “Yoga Hosers” premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will be released into theaters on September 2nd. But before the official release, Fathom Events and SpectiCast will host a one-night only film event in select theaters on August 30th. The event will also feature behind-the-scenes footage from the set, interviews with cast and crew, as well as a post-screening Q&A with writer and director Kevin Smith and members of the cast, captured at the premiere in Red Bank, New Jersey.
