Just a quick note on this one as I didn't play the game for very long, but I thought I'd drop a few thoughts.
I was playing the NES version of the game. Visually, it was OK, perhaps not as good as "1941" but that would come out a couple of years later. Again it's in that upwards scrolling "bullet hell" style form of shooter. It's a basic style of gameplay, but it's pretty difficult to do it badly and the game was alright as I was playing it.
I did, however, keep dying a lot, even on the first level, which I thought was a little unusual and it wasn't until I spotted the "energy" score, in the bottom corner that I worked out what was happening. This energy score winds away constantly, as you play the game. The rate it disappears increases if you take any damage, or if you use your special weapons. Once the energy has gone, the next hit kills you. It feels like an unusual (and cheap) mechanism. Each level has a "Boss Battle" which you have to take on at your weakest. I understand it's supposed to capture quarters but if I'm honest all it did was frustrate me to the point I moved on to something else.
